Chapter 112: They become scarier and scarier
A large group of bees gathered in an absolutely uninteresting cave. It was a place too small to build a hive—only around fifty meters in all dimensions—and not taken as a nest by anybody else.
But today, it held a hundred Warrior Bees, two Physician Bees, ten Beemarines, myself and Bloodhero.
While fifty Warrior Bees guarded the entrance, the rest of the bees gathered near the walls of the cave, watching the ten prisoners piled in the center of the cave.
And right now, to the astonished and excited gasps of the peanut gallery, the prisoners were waking up.
Ten wasps slowly rose from their drug-induced sleep.
There were four different species, but they all had more or less the same stats and looks as the one nearest to me: sharp-faced women, each around 3 meters tall, with sharp fangs and claws. Their tails had signature bright yellow and black stripes and deadly sharp stingers.

And getting them here was even easier than I feared it might! All I had to do was order my bees to leave some honey with the sleep-inducing plant out in the open.
Soon, there were plenty of insects to choose from. My girls carried them to this cave and tied them up in case they woke up too early.
“Look at that one! It moved, it moved!”
“Aha-ha-ha, look at her dumb face! She doesn’t even understand what’s going on!”
At first, they cautiously explored their surroundings, but when they smelled prey nearby, the wasps’ behavior changed. They fought against the bounds on their hands, feet and wings, rolling around on the floor chaotically.
With the energy they spent on this slithering, I feared they might actually escape.
“They look almost like caterpillars! Too bad wasp meat tastes so bitter, they look so appetizing right now!”
“I wish it was me who was about to fight them!”

“You will get yours on the next patrol, I’m sure. There are always more from where they come from!”
The duty of Warriors made some of my daughters so vicious… I signed inwardly and turned to Bloodhero.
“Let’s not waste time before the wasps slither away.”
She nodded.
“That’s right. Are you ready for your *real* training, Beemarines?”
According to Bloodhero’s and Ambrosia’s estimates, the full training of Beemarines should’ve taken 12 days. 3 to learn basic things in school, 4 to learn how to swing your hammer and fight alongside other Warrior Bees, and 5 to learn how to sneak around and survive in the wilderness from Commando Bees.
This was about the same time it took for me to train my girls back in the days.
Since then, an average bee got much smarter and had several tiers of a “Fast Learner” gene. To further speed up the training process, I made some specialist bees dedicated teachers of their profession and gave them the “Teacher” title, which boosted the learning speed of the students.
But the size of the curriculum grew, too!
Originally, a Warrior Bee just had to know which size to hold the hammer up. Now they have developed some fighting techniques and tricks.
(I was waiting for it to become a technology, but I guessed the Warriors weren’t on that level yet.)
So overall, training took almost the same amount of time.
Beemarines, instead of taking 12 days like their peers, learned everything in only 10 days!
Most of their peers had “Fast Learner III”. Their brood-sisters had “Fast Learner IV”.
The Empire slowly and steadily grew even without rapid conquest of territory, just like I said to my Advisers before. Thanks to the improved wellness, fewer girls died of natural causes such as “being stung by a wasp”, and the population grew incredibly fast.
It rose by a couple dozen thousands every day! In two months, it would double!
And the Researchers were doing their work, too. Just recently, they invented and implemented “Improved Underground Architecture”, which helped the aphid ranchers immensely and gave me 20 development points.
So those 10 days weren’t a waste. But it was still better than waiting for 20 days, which would’ve happened if Beemarines didn’t have the “Fast Learner” gene at all.
Right now, all 10 Beemarines chosen for the first training spar saluted to me with their hammers.
“Yes, Military Adviser!” they said in unison.
I eyed them suspiciously.
‘They are so stony-faced…’
It was like they took the quietness of Commandos, the soldier mindset of Warriors, and then multiplied it by two. Those trained Beemarines (who now held Warrior titles) looked like killer robots pretending to be real people.
“Are you nervous, girls? Or excited, perhaps? Your sisters would’ve been in your place…”
A Beemarine my eyes fell on, named Destroyer, stood straighter.
“We are eager to show that the Empire didn’t spend resources on us in vain, Father, and crush the skulls of those disgusting enemies of the Empire! We will make you proud, Father, even if we will have to crawl over our own spilled guts!”
Her sisters nodded in agreement. Their faces were as stony as before.
I eyed them for a moment, then looked at Bloodhero, who stared back proudly.
“You mentioned that you hoped their morale in battle will be as high as their skill, so I told their instructors to make measures about it, Father. They were incredibly successful!” she said. “Even among other Warriors, Beemarines are the most eager to fight!”
I didn’t groan through a titanic effort of will. The sacrifices I was making to not make my daughters sad! At least right now, when they were about to fight.
‘Later, I will have a *serious* talk with her! Every time I think my daughters can’t get more scary, I turn around and see exactly that!’
“I see, Bloodhero… Ahem. Beemarines, since you are ready to start—you may. Go down, free the prisoners, and kill them in an honest fight. Show what you can do!”
