Chapter 331: Blood Brotherhood
Within the next hour, the bee infused with human blood fell ill way worse than before.

The injection wound swelled to a ridiculous size, and she began running a terrible fever that turned into chills just half an hour later. It became immediately clear that something was wrong, and while I hovered worriedly around while being entirely helpless, the Physicians did their best to stabilize the girl’s state.

They cooled or warmed her up to keep her temperature as close to normal as possible, and used herbal medicines to combat the symptoms. Either thanks to this, or to the bee’s own regeneration—she was a Beemarine, after all.

Eventually, the Physicians reported that although the bee was still feeling worse than before the injection, there seemed to be no immediate danger to her life.

“This was probably an allergic reaction,” I guessed. “I imagine it would work the same way in the other direction. Not that we have enough spare bee blood to waste it on humans, but it will be good to know.”

It took longer than a few hours for the volunteer to fully recover from the allergic reaction, but her recovery wasn’t the only good news I received.

In the morning, I was brought a report which said that Tamsha’s blood was successfully transfused to the sick human (through a crude method of pouring it into a fresh wound).

Although the unhygienic method would have invited more infections in other circumstances, this time it seemed to not be a concern.

The woman was feeling much better than before. The injection definitely helped!

I didn’t know how exactly those genes worked, but people immunized with those universal-hunter antibodies became so immune that they could share their immunity with others!

Perhaps these antibodies were so powerful that even a few of them could kick all pathogens out of someone’s body.

Of course, more tests were necessary. Now that the bees injected with the dodo blood recovered, they were eager to share some of their own blood with their sisters.

I suspected that this couldn’t have been so easy. Most likely the effect diluted with each subsequent blood donation—but we were going to find it out soon.

Either way, the information had to be carried to Farini so he could start spreading the immunizing vaccine among the people!

In the meantime, Tamsha could return to Krisha Village and immunize people there. I felt it would be better if he stayed near this place, anyway—at the very least, because he clearly didn’t enjoy sleeping on the ground near Hive Supremo.

Too bad—we didn’t have human-sized buildings for him to live in!

***

I transferred all the necessary information to the bees near Farini through the telepathic chain.

Within the same day, Farini moved to action. Reports were constantly going back and forth down the chain, bringing news about his successes.

Being an experienced leader, Farini took the opportunity to get more approval from people by dramatically announcing the miraculous cure. But being wise (and coached by Agent Whisper, who was coached by me), he didn’t say much about where this cure came from.

If people knew about the “holy dodos”, they would definitely want to try to steal them.

Instead, Farini just announced that Dalmanrach had given him a blessing of protection to share with people through blood communion.

The man even came up with an idea to spin it like a ritual of spiritual brotherhood in faith, strengthening the belief of masses in Dalmanrach even more. In the meantime, he also spoke about bees, who acted as divine guardians of all gods, including Dalmanrach—although for masses, we were just immaterial angels.

In reality, Farini and his followers carefully gathered some blood of the growing dodo chicks, trying to not weaken them. It meant that there was a really small amount of blood, and he had to be extremely economical with it.

Thankfully, just a droplet was enough to cure a person, even from Flaying Flu. The terrible rashes this sickness left on people didn’t go away, but finally began to heal.

About a hundred people were cured this way—each of them carefully picked by Farini as someone devout or related to one of the people he wanted on his side.

These hundred people were now called the Blood Brotherhood—united in blood and spirit, no matter their origin. But still not equal—after all, for the local society, the idea that a commoner could be equal to a noble was way too radical.

No, Farini and other nobles were definitely more equal than anyone else. But other Blood Brothers (and Sisters) were elevated over their peers. And weren’t dying from something.

Of course, those unhealed protested—but following Worriesgone’s idea, Farini inspired the others to keep faith to be bestowed a miracle as well.

But after a couple of days (when the Blood Brothers healed enough that their blood wasn’t hopelessly contaminated, and they could share it in the first place), Farini used the blood of those recently healed to heal more people.

This time, a thousand people were given the cure at once!

It was a really grand ceremony.

And even after it, more people were given the blood injections in the newly built temple of Dalmanrach, where pilgrims were now constantly waiting for their turn.

There were still way more people needing the immunizing injection than there were people who had it. But now that the masses had a hope in sight, they were too focused on waiting for it and working hard to earn it than on being angry.

And since the sick people, or people afraid of becoming sick, were so eager to show their faith and be considered worthy of such a gift…

All Farini needed to make a second army out of them was to point a finger.

By the end of the week, an invasion was aimed at the High King at last.

At the same time, as predicted by Oracles, the High King rallied his army to crush Farini’s rebellion once and for all.

But the High King wasn’t attacking alone.
