Chapter 62: All this time I’ve been sleeping on *THIS*?!
Ambrosia was in the nursery of our hive, talking with her Nurse Bees. I just flew straight toward her sweet scent.
“The last brood is—Nectus?” Ambrosia turned to me mid-word, frowning.
Whatever she saw made her frown even deeper.
“Nurses, we will talk about this later. Nectus… Nectus, come here. Fly with me.”
Before I could say a word, Ambrosia pulled me by the arm and flew away from her subordinates. While one hand was holding me close, the other was rubbing circles at my waist.
All that while in flight. She was just so elegant…
“Nectus, you look terrible. What happened?” Ambrosia asked, landing in the royal chambers.
As I landed, the pull of her hands made me stumble and fall right into Ambrosia’s arms. Right where I wanted to be.
Words poured out.
“I’m followed by a bitch-ass that hates me and wants me to suffer playing her awful fucking game. Amby. Amby, how do I know that next time she won’t just kill me for accidentally breaking some stupid rule I didn’t know about? Or kill you instead. Something tells me the so-called ‘Goddess of Bees’ doesn’t care about bees as much as she hates humans and me!”
As I spoke, Ambrosia stroked my head and back gently. It was incredibly soothing to just be here with her… She often acted cold, but just now—she knew I was feeling awful before I even said something.
She really cared, and this warmed my heart even more.
“Can you do something about this all, Nectus?” Ambrosia asked.
“No! Nothing. I can only play by her rules… And only hope that it’s temporary.”
“Then just accept things as they are and worry about the things you can change. There are so many dangers around us—what’s one more?”
“This sounds so smart and easy when you say it, Amby, but my blood is 40% anxiety,” I mumbled.
“This is less than a half.”
Huh.
There had to be something magical about Ambrosia. The longer I spent in her arms, the calmer I became, even with the Grand Strategist title still equipped.
‘And what if my name is *a bit* cringe? Who defines cringe, anyway? Society? My current society is made of *bees*! They have no frame of reference *whatsoever*! And this is beautiful and *based*. Although I gave them those utilitarian numbers at first… When they gather their creativity, every bee will have beautiful names that reflect what they are or what they want to be, not some bullshit boring names that their parents picked at random from a book. Names that thousands of other people have already.’
With that deep thought, I finally pulled myself away from Ambrosia, and even smiled.
“There was good news, too, Amby. For a start, I got the next lifespan gene, so I’m young and 100% virile again!” I flexed my biceps. “And I got more attribute points, too.”
Ambrosia’s eyes widened. She looked me up and down and then smiled.
“I see you are feeling better, Nectus. Let’s choose together the next genes you will share with me and our daughters.”
I nodded.
Even if I was smarter than her again, Ambrosia had a unique perspective on things and more experience in this world than I did.
First, I explained briefly how attribute points and separate gene pools worked.
“You know, Amby, I think the smart old me would’ve started by putting points into strength and defense, since those are the lowest stats. But the *brilliant* new me has an even better idea…”
I narrowed my eyes, looking at my attributes and genes.
“A few times before, the system offered me genes of second and so on tiers from the start. I didn’t think twice about it… But there surely are some hidden prerequisites. Prerequisites that I already fulfilled in that specific case, even if the gene doesn’t show in the list. Like flight—I just have this ability. And you do. And so on… System doesn’t list *everything*.”

Ambrosia listened to me closely.
“What are you leading toward, Nectus?”
I smirked.
There was one attribute that I never spent attribute points yet… The attribute which I thought I had more than enough until I had even more of. But now that I was smarter, I knew better.
I had no idea whatsoever what genes in this pool there could be, but if a higher attribute meant I had more advanced genes unlocked, they had to be absolutely OP!
“I’m going to put the first attribute point in intelligence, Amby.”
<Congratulations, for raising an attribute above 100 (without temporary bonuses) you got a new achievement: “Attributes 101”! Your reward: Genetic Tree Prediction’ special ability.>
〔Genetic Tree Prediction: allows seeing basic information about genes which have your genes and genes you might pick as prerequisites.〕
My eyes widened, but this was just the start.
〔For improving intelligence, you have a choice of next genes: ‘Technology: Scientific Method’, ‘Perfect Memory’, and ‘Telepathy I’.〕
〔Technology: Scientific Method: gives instinctual access to ‘Scientific Method’ technology.〕
〔Perfect Memory: allows perfectly recalling everything that you’ve experienced, saw or heard in the past.〕
〔Telepathy I: allows sending telepathic messages for up to 10 meters.〕
〔Scientific Method〕
Brainpower requirement: 1000
Brainpower: +20 per 1 thousand affected scientists
Decreases research time by 50%.
Drastically decreases the chance of critical failures during research.
〔〕〔〕〔〕
I choked on air.
‘What the hell? Telepathy?! There’s magic now, too? All this time I’ve been sleeping on *THIS*?! And… system, how does ‘Genetic Tree Prediction’ work, anyway? Does it mean that I will see how many tiers there are in a gene?’
<No, user. You will be able to see notable genes that use this gene or its next tiers as prerequisites. However, you won’t be able to see what bonuses they give or what other genes they can lead to. You will also see what genetic pool they belong to.>
This confirmed my theories.
I shook my head and turned to Ambrosia with wide eyes.
“You can’t even imagine what I just got! Even *I* can’t imagine it! I can’t… I can’t pick between them all… They are all too good…”
How was I going to *choose*?!
