Chapter 841: Big Responsibility
“Please calm down and let go of your grip first,” Xu Feng struggled to breathe under the tight grasp of Jessica.
She seemed to have no intention of releasing her arms, almost as if she was afraid of the latter fleeing.
“Are you going to run away?” She raised her chin up and asked cautiously. If anyone were to stumble across this scene, then they would have most definitely mistaken Xu Feng as some scumbag bastard who left his girlfriend.
What was worse was that they were in public in front of the guild members.
“The Guild Leader is actually this close to Receptionist Jessica?”
“Could players be romantically involved with NPC?”
“How do they even do it?”
Sure enough, gossip and muttering amongst the guild members had commenced. Most of them were filled with curiosity toward Jessica’s somewhat intimate actions and questions directed at Xu Feng.
“Ahem, it seems like some people want to be demoted or expelled from the guild.” Thankfully, Veronica reacted fast enough as she cleared her throat and warned solemnly.
The guild members quickly shrank their backs and started making some random excuses to exit the scene.
However, before they left, Veronica continued with her threat.
“Everyone who was present at this time is recorded by the System. So if I see any news leakage regarding our Guild Leader, everyone at present would receive punishment. No exception.
Almost immediately, the fellow guild members started to glare murderously toward their companions.
Since Veronica made it clear that they would all be punished regardless of their innocence, they needed to ensure the others wouldn’t have some slip of the tongue.
After all, they had all experienced Veronica’s method and she was never one to speak nonsense. If she stated something, then she would definitely go through with it.
“Hey, you damn loud-mouth Blabserker. If I catch you talking gibberish to randoms again, then I’ll rip your damn mouth to shreds.”
“Hmph, more like I should be saying that to you Cashooter!” Blabserker sneered coldly at his companion. “You are the type to spout nonsense whenever you’re in the zone.”
Similar conversations were happening between the guild members as they equally warned and threatened each other.
It was only then did Veronica breathed out a sigh of relief.
‘I should still have some people monitor them.’ She thought to herself. It wasn’t that she distrusted them, but this matter was too big for her to let her guard down. The implication of such a topic would be scandalous, and worse, it could become an attack on them.
While Veronica was ready to prevent any damage done to their reputation, Xu Feng finally managed to convince Jessica to release her grip.
“You better not run away,’ Jessica warned. “I’ve been swamped so hard lately and only you can help lessen my stress.”
“You’re talking about the recent influx of immigrants, right?” Xu Feng inquired. The NPCs from other cities were referred to as immigrants given that each city operated on their own set of laws aside from the Aetheria Empire.
It could be said that cities were essentially countries and that the Aetheria Empire was like a Continent.
Therefore, the fallen cities NPCs who had to quickly migrate to another city to live in were labeled as immigrants.
“Yes, the influx of immigrants far surpassed the limit that our Adventure Association could handle.” Jessica flashed a bittersweet smile and wanted nothing more than to resign from her job.
However, the pay and benefits were simply too good for her to just call it quits.
Luckily, she was informed in advance by Howard that the Vanguard Guild was eligible to become a representative guild on behalf of Star Falls City. It was clear that Howard understood her predicament and arranged for it.
Usually, to become a representative guild required a lot of tedious documentation and procedure, but Howard had already cleared all of it in advance.

In other words, all she needed to do now was to get the Vanguard Guild to sign the contract and officialize their new status. And to do that, she required their Guild Leader, who was none other than Lin Feng.
Without him, she wouldn’t be able to offload a crap ton of pressure that was stacking upon her.
“Anyway, here’s the contract. Once you sign it, your guild is automatically a representative guild and enjoys a lot of benefits.” Jessica retrieved a contract and flashed it to him.
She then continued, “Once the contract is established, your guild can also act as a medium now to deploy the influx of immigrants. Our Adventure Association will work closely with you alongside the Mercenary Association.”
Despite her sugary words, Xu Feng made sure to scrutinize the terms and clauses in the contract. To his astonishment, the contract was actually extremely good.
It was so good that he came to suspect something was amiss.
There were no free lunches in this world and he refused to believe Jessica would come all the way here to grant him such a benefit.
“What’s the catch here?” Xu Feng raised an eyebrow and inquired.
‘Damn, he didn’t take the bait?’ Startled, Jessica didn’t expect Xu Feng to be asking her a question. She had thought he would have signed his signature right away.
“Ahem, you’ll see… our Star Falls City has just been promoted, but there’s still limited space to accommodate them.” Jessica cleared her throat and purposely trailed her wording.
Unamused, Xu Feng finally understood her intention. Although Star Falls City had been promoted, the expansion wasn’t even close to completion.
In other words, the influx of immigrants was posing a massive crowding and limited housing issues to them.
However, they also didn’t want to lose these immigrants who would soon become a valuable slave—workforce for the city.
So what could they possibly do?
They wouldn’t just send them to another city and let them benefit from it.
And it was then that Jessica remembered that Vanguard Guild had constructed a town and the town itself might not be as large as a city, the environment itself was perfect for these strong immigrants.
‘The big responsibility was to shelter them and reserve them for the future of Star Falls City. They really know how to take advantage of us.’ Xu Feng twitched his mouth.
