Chapter 859: Expert Chef
Time quickly went by, and after navigating the maze, and encountering numerous dead corners, Xu Feng raised his chin up.
The timer had gone down from the initial 48:00:00 to 39:43:23.
In other words, they had spent approximately 17 minutes without much progress.
Moreover, they had yet to explore all the paths available on the west side.
“Let’s head back for now and check.” Xu Feng paused his steps and suggested.
Nodding, Carmen was also a bit dampened that none of the paths led anywhere. The only saving grace was the fact that they hadn’t encountered any monsters yet.
Nevertheless, they refused to let their guard down and remained vigilant.
After all, the moment when one let their guard down, was usually the time a cliche scenario would happen in which a fierce monster suddenly popped up and caught them off-guard. Therefore, Xu Feng repeatedly emphasized that they were not to relax until they were inside the safe zone.
As Carmen traced the dust they had left scattered, specifically the green-colored dust that indicated the correct path.
Time quickly passed by, and she breathed out a sigh of relief upon seeing the safe zone.
“The dust doesn’t seem to be swept up.” She exclaimed.
Nodding, Xu Feng was also relieved that the dust didn’t scatter. This dust originated from herbs that had a sticky substance and were quite precious.
It was already extremely painful to use them to scatter across the ground, but it would have been even worse if they were to be rendered useless.
“Let’s return to the safe zone first and take a break.” Xu Feng said, and proceeded to enter the safe zone. Luckily, nothing amiss had happened and the two were able to enter without any hiccups.
Additionally, the timer paused at exactly 39:38:54.
They had taken 5 minutes to return to their safe zone, which was already an ideal time.
Had they been longer, then it would have been somewhat of a waste.
As the two took their seats, Carmen realized their sanity and mental strength must be fortified. Being stuck in the maze was equivalent to being trapped in a box.
If she had been alone, then she would have given up the first 20 minutes.
Everywhere around them was silent and filled with a desolate atmosphere. It was as if she was the only one left in the maze and that her struggle was futile.
Truth be told, Carmen somehow understood Xu Feng’s earlier behavior and realized he was actually concerned about her sanity. Given that she was someone who preferred to be free, such an environment was bound to affect her the most.
While she was in a daze, Xu Feng had already retrieved some steamy food and offered it to her.
“Here, eat some and recover your stamina,” Xu Feng calmly said.
The food was piping hot but that was just the effect of the inventory. Food that was stored in the inventory would remain in whatever state it was stored.
However, she never needed to eat much, so her inventory was mainly filled with other things suitable for her grinding or materials gained during that time.
If she was starving, then she would simply return and go to some tavern for a quick meal.
After all, inventory space was fixed and there didn’t seem to be a way to expand them yet.
“You’ve been storing food in your inventory?” Carmen accepted the food and was rather surprised that he, out of everyone, had food stored and not other things.
“Mhmm,” Xu Feng nodded. Most of his important items were stored in the City Bank. The City Bank was linked everywhere and was the safest spot to store valuables. Other than him, no one else was allowed access inside.
Of course, that also meant he had to pay a hefty price monthly to continue to store his things in the City Bank.

“Wow, this is really tasty.” Suddenly, Carmen’s face invoked happiness as she didn’t expect the food to be that tasty.
“Glad you enjoyed it.” Xu Feng mused and continued, “That food alone cost 3 silver coins.”
“WHAT?!”
Almost immediately, she nearly spilled her food in the process of hearing that kind of price.
The usual price for food was usually around 10-50 copper coins. Even when she wanted to treat herself, the most she spent was 40 copper coins.
“Guild Leader, are you sure it’s alright to spend that much money on food?” She raised an eyebrow and questioned.
“This isn’t just your regular food.” Xu Feng corrected. “These are nourishment and buffing food cooked by an Expert Chef.”
“Expert Chef?”
“Yes, just like how we have Crimson Heart dabbled in the Blacksmith Profession in the guild, there are also many other types of Professions within the Divine World. Not everyone likes to grind and kill monsters daily.”
“Ah, so Expert Chef is another type of Profession that players can dabble into.”
Realization quickly dawned upon Carmen. She had long been informed that there were players who chose to be a specialist in a certain Profession. Although their level and combat experience were poor, those who attained great enlightenment in their Profession were highly regarded in guilds.
In fact, most of them who attained great enlightenment received higher benefits than those with higher levels.
After all, combat players were extremely common and nobody lacked them. But Profession-type Players were different. Not only were they quite uncommon, but it was also extremely difficult to raise their efficiency.
Take Crimson Heart for example.
She would have struggled immensely in the Blacksmith Profession if it weren’t for the fact that the Vanguard Guild provided her with an endless amount of supplies.
Besides requiring supplies, one must also put in a lot of time and work in their Profession—sometimes, even exceeding those who grind for long hours to level up and gather materials.
Having realized that, Carmen lowered her head and glanced at the food in her hand. “Is this food cooked by an NPC Expert Chef?”
