Chapter 860: Cragback Mauler
As Carmen raised the question of whether the food was purchased by an NPC or not, Xu Feng simply smiled mysteriously.
Although there was no response, there was a look of astonishment hanging in her face.
“This is food cooked by a player?” She became alarmed, having understood some of the meaning based on his behavior.
“There’s no need to be that shocked.” Xu Feng didn’t bother to tell her to tone it down. They were stuck in a maze with only them alone.
“Keep it a secret though.” He still warned.
This Expert Chef player was someone he accidentally stumbled across back when he was randomly teleported to Skyland City after completing his Origin Trial.
Back then, he went to a tavern to gather some information and discover the food was special. He didn’t ponder over it much until he had declared guild war and returned to the city again.
When he took the time to investigate the tavern, he realized the food was subpar compared to the previous time. That was when he was informed by the NPC after giving them some good tipping that he discovered they recruited an Immortal previously who sought to learn their culinary skills.
Of course, that particular Immortal also knew the way of the world and gave them a hefty lesson fee to study. Although the chef there didn’t teach them specifically, the Immortal still managed to pick up a few skills.
Since then, Xu Feng had been intrigued and secretly tried to investigate them, only to end up realizing they had gone to his base city, Star Falls City.
They didn’t work in the tavern but had registered to work in his Vanguard Hotel. During that time, it was still Tracy who was acting as the manager who tested their skill and approved of them being a chef.
It was just a pity they had left by the time he figured it out, and was only informed that their name was Serena.
“This expert chef player kept traveling everywhere and it was difficult for me to even obtain her contact.” Xu Feng admitted it honestly, feeling quite bitter.
Who could have imagined that he would be chasing after a woman for so long because their cooking was great?
Even Carmen was taken aback and nearly held a disgusted expression toward Xu Feng. If it weren’t for the fact that she knew he wasn’t some perverted man, then she would have definitely mistaken him as a perverted stalker.
What kind of sane person would track down the player and even spend so much money on their food just to obtain their contact information—naturally, in-game contact?
When Xu Feng saw the look that Carmen was giving him, he nearly regretted explaining the story to her.
“Our Vanguard Guild lacked a lot of valuable Profession Players. To sustain the guild, we need them.” He emphasized the significance of gathering Profession Players.
Profession Players’ play style was inherently different and they never needed to face any threat of PK. After all, they rarely ever leave the cities and mostly reside in stores or taverns.
PK in the cities still occurred occasionally, but it was very unlikely for players to actively target them. Not only were there no benefits in targeting them and making them lose their level, but it was also very retarded to do so.
Once they offended a Profession Player, every other Profession Player would blacklist them collectively in their own community.
Then, the affiliation behind the offender would also face immense difficulty in recruiting them unless they paid a heavy price.
“I get it.” Carmen rolled her eyes and said, “There’s no need to explain it. You always manage to swindle people to join the guild. Crimson Heart, OneManMedia, and even me.”
Cough! Cough! Cough!
Without a doubt, her last statement clearly meant that he had swindled her deeply.
Thus, Xu Feng coughed repeatedly and nearly choked on the food.
Imagine dying from choking—especially in the Divine World? That would have been a major embarrassment and forever recorded in his black history.
Luckily, Carmen was just teasing and didn’t mean anything else.
Time went by quickly, and soon, the two got up and were ready to explore the path again.
It wasn’t that they were trying to stall, but upon exiting the safe zone, they would be dampened by the maze environment.

Without the safe zone protection, their stamina would continuously decrease, forcing them to either return to the safe zone or risk wasting more time on walking.
Carmen’s Void Portal was disabled as well to ensure they had to tread carefully in their pathing.
“The food indeed lessened the decrease in stamina, but not by much.” Carmen exhaled deeply, noticing the difference. If possible, she would want to consume more food, but there was a limit to their satiety.
If their satiety was filled up, then they wouldn’t be able to receive the effect anymore. Sure, they could still eat the food and taste them, but it would be a complete waste.
“So we should make haste.” Xu Feng chose to keep an optimistic outlook as they followed another diverging path. In the meantime, he continuously scatters the crusted herb dust on the ground to leave behind a trail.
Unfortunately, their luck didn’t seem to increase but rather decreased further.
This time, the path they chose happened to stumble across a monster. The monster resembled that of a rhino, albeit more mutated and sturdier.
“Ah, great, a monster with high resistance to magic damage.” Xu Feng clicked his tongue. The monster in front of them was called Cragback Mauler, a level 43.
“Hmm, he noticed us but isn’t charging at us?” Carmen raised an eyebrow.
At a glance, the Cragback Mauler had already seen them. Yet it remained immovable, merely snorting coldly and tapping its hoof.
“Phew, looks like your luck is really in play.” Xu Feng chuckled and turned to her. “The Cragback Mauler should have been in restriction and until we step in a certain range, it would not be able to charge at us.”
“Ugh, but there’s an extended path ahead. So either way, we’ll have to face the monster, right?”
