Chapter 866: Up Challenge
“An Up Challenge?” Initially confused by the meaning, Carmen was soon enlightened by Xu Feng.
In this Up Challenge, all skills and external factors were disabled.
This meant that Flint was automatically sent to the Pet Space and unable to exit out of there.
Moreover, they were chained up on the ankles, forcing them to work together.
“So if our teamwork is terrible, we’re going to be stuck here forever?” Carmen furrowed her brows and frowned a bit.
What kind of sick mini-game was this?
The timer might have been paused for now, but once they start ascending, it would be accounted for in the actual dungeon. And from beneath, she could tell that the ascension required a lot of work.
It would be a lie if she were to say she didn’t regret touching the white portal at the moment.
“There’s no need to worry much.” Xu Feng suddenly said and gently patted her shoulder.
“Since this is called Mini-Game A, then it only means there should be more Mini-Games hidden in the dungeon. We should be on the correct path.” He explained. He wasn’t just trying to reassure her, but he was somewhat positive that the System wouldn’t do them dirty like this.
There should be a sufficient reward upon completing the challenge.
When Carmen heard that, she could only nod and felt grateful that he didn’t blame her for the current predicament.
Had it been anyone else, then it wouldn’t be surprising for them to start pointing fingers at others.
“Alright, let’s not care about how we ended up here, but how we should tackle the mini-game.” Xu Feng continued, his eyes glancing at the structure of the tower.
There were many open cracks and wooden poles around the tower—one that forced them to be well-timed in their jump.
After all, the poles wouldn’t have enough space for two people, and given the chains in their ankles, the distance they could be separated was barely enough for them to stand on each pole.
To simplify, when they jump, both of them must do so at the same time while advancing forward without any hiccups.
To test his theory, Xu Feng tried to open his status screen, but it was completely grayed out.
‘The health didn’t decrease, so we should be immune to damage.’ He thought to himself. With that being said though, Xu Feng raised his chin and stared at a certain mechanic wall that comes out and back.
That wall should be designed to make them fall back down to the lowest level.
Aside from him, Carmen also seemed to realize the importance of this specific challenge.
First, they needed to trust each other— this shouldn’t be a problem.
Second, they needed to coordinate well and relay their intention beforehand.
Third, they needed to ensure they didn’t stumble at all.
Lastly, even if they were to mess up and be forced to restart from scratch, they needed to ensure their mentality was steady and well.
After all, in such a setting, frustration and anger were bound to rise from repeated failures on the same level or stages.
“Guild Leader, I don’t have confidence,” Carmen stepped forward and admitted it honestly.
The pressure was high, and failure meant more time wasted. She seriously couldn’t endure it and was positive that she would likely mess up and incur his wrath.
“I don’t have confidence either,” he chuckled in response. “If we succeed, then all good. If we don’t, then we just gotta keep trying. It’s not like you would blame me if I were to mess up, right?”
Carmen quickly shook her head. Obviously, she wouldn’t blame him if he were to mess up.

Sometime later, the two of them stepped forward and were faced with the wooden plank.
The wooden platform was attached to a chain and some gears, allowing it to ascend up and down.
Without a doubt, the wooden platform was their first step.
It was simple and easy to understand.
“Are you ready?” Xu Feng asked her.
In response, Carmen took three deep breaths before nodding her head. Once she regulated her mindset and emotion, the two stepped on the wooden platform.
As soon as the two of them stepped on it, the timer in the sky started counting down.
Timer: 38:44:23
“Don’t stare at the timer.” He gently warned. Constantly staring at the time was equivalent to putting more strain on your mentality.
The System didn’t put the timer there to kindly remind them but to distract and pressure them. So long as the timer was visible, they were bound to glance at it subconsciously to check how much time they had left.
“I won’t look at it anymore.” Nodding, Carmen agreed that looking at the timer caused her muscles to be tensed.
Once the wooden platform reached the top, Xu Feng and Carmen both walked out and met with a small crack bridge.
Looking at that, Xu Feng knew they were at the ‘tutorial stage”.
“Are they trying to tease or insult us?” Carmen pursed her lips and pointed at the highlight down arrow that had a big label jump.
It was clear they were trying to tell them to jump at this particular spot to succeed.
While Carmen was less than pleased by the supposed “guidance”, Xu Feng was actually pleased with his decision.
‘Good thing I only joined the dungeon with Carmen. If there are more people, then this would definitely be a nightmare.’ He thought to himself. Whenever he imagined himself being chained with an additional person or more, he realized the horror of this mini-game.
“I think it’s just trying to make us get the hang of it. I doubt the System had any intention of insulting our ability.” Xu Feng responded.
Hearing that, Carmen didn’t argue further.
The two of them walked near the edge of the bridges, glanced at each other, and proceeded to leap across.
The small crack wasn’t big and didn’t require them to gain any momentum before leaping forward.
However, the two were positive that sooner or later, they would encounter a wide crack which required them to do their utmost to leap across.
