Chapter 898: Beacon Relay

Time went by, and the second wave was soon cleared at a record time.

Thanks to Carmen revealing the Void Field, the monsters turned into nothing more than punching bags.

After all, with their movement reduced and their defense weakened to be no different than level 30s monsters, both Xu Feng and Carmen could easily kill them.

Once Carmen activated Void Devour on the remaining hounds and spiders, a system prompt appeared.

[Wave 2 Completed! You have 10 minutes to rest before the next wave hits! Health and Mana Recovery Potions are limited, and skills remain unrestricted!]

As the two read the prompt, they gazed at each other with a somewhat amused expression. The worries that they had in their mind seemed to be resolved after realizing the System didn’t plan on restricting their skills.

“Phew, I thought the System was going to ban my Void Field.” Carmen heaved a sigh of relief and patted her chest lightly.

“If the System doesn’t plan on banning it, then I can only guess the upcoming monsters are going to be of high resistance or immune to certain spells.” Unlike Carmen’s relief, Xu Feng knew that they could never lower their guards.

Remaining vigilance and always expecting the unexpected was the surefire way to prevent themselves from being caught off-guard.

Carmen’s mindset also changed upon hearing Xu Feng’s warning. He was right. She couldn’t be relieved yet until everything was finally over.

“I was almost caught in the System’s trap again.” Carmen sighed softly and realized she had almost become complacent and lost her focus.

She shook her head and went toward Xu Feng to discuss a viable strategy.

“You’ve seen the flaws of my Void Field now, right?” She asked.

“The flaws are evident, but it’s easily fixable.” Xu Feng responded and began to explain a few methods that he had thought about after witnessing the scene.

Had it been anyone else who told her about this, then Carmen might not really believe them.

After all, she had nearly single-handedly killed all the high-level monsters by herself. The only problem was that the monsters outside of the Void Field range were unaffected by her, albeit not enough to alarm her.

Moreover, she only used her Void Field once to others and Xu Feng somehow already managed to come up with multiple solutions?

It was surely an unbelievable thing.

However, it was precisely because the other party was Xu Feng that Carmen believed and trusted him.

Sometime later, Carmen’s expression changed from time to time. Starting with astonishment and ending with horror.

“How perceptive are you?” She exclaimed in shock, her eyes staring at him as if he were an old monster.

Although the solutions he came up with had not been implemented to be put to test, Carmen’s mind could already imagine the scenario in resolving the supposed flaw.

There were two solutions that particularly caught her attention, field rotation, and beacon relay.

“You’re right, Guild Leader. My Void Field isn’t a static one. I could have easily canceled it and then recast it.” Carmen clasped her hands and found her combat experience to be still lacking severely.

The Void Field had no casting time, only consumption of mana.

However, monsters within the Void Field would become a supplement for her to sustain the field, so the consumption of mana wasn’t really that high. This was especially true when there was an abundance of them swarming in.

The downside was that sustainability would be hard to manage when it was just a single individual or an individual who would just escape from the Void Field range.

“Mhmm, as long as you utilize them properly, your Void Field would be the most feared skill.” Xu Feng smiled. Now that he had informed Carmen that she could always transport the Void Field elsewhere, she wouldn’t be facing the same dilemma of not being able to affect all monsters due to the limited range.

Naturally, the method still required Carmen to be swift and efficient.

The timing of canceling her Void Field would be critical. One slight mishap and it could spell disaster.

“But what about the beacon relay you mentioned?” Carmen continued to question.

Unlike the solution of Void Field being canceled and recast somewhere else, the beacon relay was much more complex. It sounded simple on the surface, but such a method required multi-task and precise decision making in an instant.

“Your voidlings are capable of taunting and luring the enemies into your Void Field, right? So why don’t you try to use a few of them to lure them away from the fight?” Xu Feng suggested.

“Lure them away from the fight?”

“Yes, it’s called distractions. If you are met with overwhelming numbers, then the best option is to split them up and focus on a specific group of numbers at a time.”

Realization quickly dawned upon Carmen. She recalled how the battle had turned somewhat easy after Xu Feng had used his own taunting skill.

Back then, Xu Feng didn’t taunt them into her Void Field but was actually luring them away to another empty section.

“Why didn’t you tell me about that strategy?” Carmen furrowed her brows and asked in confusion.

If Xu Feng had just revealed the method while they were confronting the second wave, then wouldn’t things have become easier for the two of them?

Why did he purposely conceal the matter and choose to reveal it once the wave was over?

Upon sensing her intense gaze, Xu Feng spread his arms wide.

“Would you have learned the lesson deeply if you didn’t face the struggle?” He questioned back.

A look of astonishment appeared on Carmen’s face. She pursed her lips softly and pondered whether she would really remember this lesson if it weren’t for the struggles.

‘Right… if Guild Leader reminded me early, then I wouldn’t have realized my flaws and continue to be more complacent.’ She exhaled deeply and understood Xu Feng’s intention. He didn’t intend to embarrass her or anything. Instead, he wanted to send a message that one should never be too confident or arrogant.
