Chapter 950: Framing
At the height of the battle royale, many players had fought and tried their best to eliminate others.

However, many soon began to notice that aside from the environment shrinking down to force them to make haste, there were also monsters roaming around the field.

These monsters were all above their levels and were difficult to kill.

Only a few brave players dared to confront them, but even then, they were forced to retreat after realizing how futile their actions were.

Simultaneously, player counts have been hovering between the 60s now, meaning it was just a small distance away from passing the trial.

Thus, many have started to play smart and choose to hide themselves. Only a foolish player or a group of players would dare to reveal themselves at this sensitive time.

As all this was happening in the vast field, within the desert region, one player was apologizing profusely toward another one.

“I’m sorry, Guild Leader. Don’t be mad at me. I was just being vigilant and thought someone ambushed me.”

The person apologizing was none other than Carmen, who had nearly killed her own Guild Leader, Xu Feng.

Xu Feng’s expression was very dark as he glared intensely at Carmen.

Because he didn’t anticipate Carmen to be so ruthless and unleash many of her killing skills, he was actually forced to use many of the tools that he managed to save to safeguard himself.

After all, Carmen’s level was 45 and her skill levels were many times higher than his.

He couldn’t even dodge because of the Void Field activation which didn’t isolate him from the debuff this time. Unlike the time in the dungeon when Carmen teamed up with him, making him an ally, this time they weren’t a team.

Therefore, Xu Feng was at complete ease back then, but now that he wasn’t, he could barely defend himself from Carmen’s onslaught offense.

“Did you not sense the Ethereal Tether link or what?” Xu Feng hissed and stared at her.

Since they had reunited, he naturally canceled out the skill and began to heal himself.

He was really close to dying, having only retained 5% of his health bar because of the activation of Ultimate Will to supplement the terrifying overload damage.

“Aish, you really can’t blame me for not sensing it, Guild Leader.” Carmen smiled bitterly and rushed to his side, her arms wrapping around his. “I was dealing with three ruffians who were trying to take advantage of me, so I used them as my guinea pig.”

“Oh, so am I also a guinea pig for a sudden onslaught?”

“Come on, Guild Leader. You can’t be that petty toward your lovey-dovey Guild Commander, right?” Carmen said sweetly.

Feeling that wasn’t enough to convince him, she went ahead and said, “I also impersonated one of the Malefic Order Guild people. I had a Stealth Cloak on, so they couldn’t see my appearance, but I revealed quite a lot of information that only members of the Malefic Order Guild should know.”

It was only after hearing about Carmen’s deeds did Xu Feng finally relented.

“Hmph, I won’t say anything since it’s not wrong to be vigilant when stuck in such a situation.” Xu Feng clicked his tongue.

‘More like it’s your fault for trying to posture in front of me and acting all mysterious.’ Carmen wanted to say those words aloud.

Had Xu Feng revealed himself normally, then Carmen wouldn’t have reacted so intensely and nearly bombarded him to death.

Of course, she wouldn’t dare to say those words aloud.

Knowing her Guild Leader’s glib tongue well, she knew that if she were to spout such words, then he would have a billion defenses to counter her.

Moreover, she knew that Xu Feng was only pouting slightly from having to spend his precious resources. He was never really furious at her.

If he was really furious at someone, then he would have never said anything but kept it to himself.

Her Guild Leader was someone who would scheme against you so terribly that you wouldn’t even know what had hit you.

“By the way, Guild Leader, I’ve collected something like this from killing a few monsters. Do you know what it is?” Carmen swiftly changed the topic and retrieved a few shards from her inventory.

Xu Feng’s eyes widened in shock when he saw that she managed to obtain 5 Resonance Shards.

‘Hot damn. Just how many monsters did she kill?’ Xu Feng swallowed a mouthful of saliva nervously. Not all monsters would drop a Resonance Shard.

Most of them only had the possibility, with a few rarities having a guaranteed drop. The Swamp Alligator was one of them that had a guaranteed drop rate.

As for the rest, Xu Feng lacked complete data to do any actual comparison.

If he had the complete data, then he wouldn’t have been roaming around and specifically targeting the Swamp Alligator. Instead, he would have checked his location and looked for the nearest monster to kill.

“Hmm, seems like you do know this item.” Carmen said with a look that screamed: “as expected of her guild leader”.

Nodding, Xu Feng took out his Resonance Shard and explained, “This is the Resonance Shard and it’s a type of currency that could be used once we enter the Hall of Resonance.”

Realization dawned upon Carmen. She paused for only a second before shoving the 5 Resonance Shards toward him.

“What are you doing?” Startled, Xu Feng said, “These are yours and they could be used to exchange for something good. As for what exactly, I don’t know, but having the more the merrier.”

“Oh, then you can keep it.”

“…”

For a moment, Xu Feng was at a loss for words.

Was he not being clear with his words?

He had already emphasized the value of the Resonance Shard and how it could improve a player.

As if she had anticipated this kind of reaction from her Guild Leader, Carmen ultimately sighed and shook her head.

“Just how many bad people have you encountered in the past to be so calculative, Guild Leader? The value might be high, but I don’t care about such things. I only joined the trial because you were joining.”
