Chapter 111: Numbers Did Not Match

“You are going to have a math quiz in the first class. Listen up, whoever performs poorly in the exam will be required to copy the exam paper 100 times and stand outside the classroom for a week as punishment!” Mr Summer announced as he started the panel and questions started to appear on the screen.

As he announced, he glared at the weak students. His eyes stayed on Nora for a whole minute before looking away. Nora only kept writing, as if she could not feel the venom spilling from his eyes. After taking a round in the whole class, she specifically stood behind Nora. his whole body was emitting pressure but Nora’s smooth hands did not stop at all.

The words flowed as if she had crammed all the equations, memorized all the answers and the theorems were nothing but a simple addition. Seeing something written so beautifully was enchanting. Mr Summer frowned. Nora had been a bad performer in his class before. Recently Megan had told him that she was cheating and accusing others. She was using different tactics to keep others silent about it. From money to her body. Adding to all the rumors he had seen in the school forum, he did not understand why this kind of girl was still in the school. And how could she be allowed to cheat in an international competition and get first prize?

But now that he looked at her, he wanted to laugh at himself. Could someone cheat to get first position? Passing marks, yes? But getting first position? He sighed! He should spend less time with Megan.

By the time the exam ended, he was not hostile toward Nora at all. Yet, her expressions did not change when he smiled at her during the submission of her test. As if his moods had nothing to do with her. Mr Summer felt guilty at his behavior.

“Nora! Come and meet me after the class.” the students exchanged glances. They have noticed Mr Summer’s glare earlier but they missed the subtle smile on his face later. They all thought that she was being called for punishment.

“Ha! Look, her position as the topper did not last even for a test.” someone snickered and the class started to laugh. Victor looked at Nora with worry. She had asked him to not interfere in her daily matters. And he had kept his distance. Because he knew if he interfered, the girls would only target Nora further. But the bullying was getting worse day by day and he was worried for her.

When she turned, she noticed his worried gaze. She softly shook her head and smiled. Victor could only sigh.

When she knocked on the staff room, there were two other teachers beside Mr Summer. He was correcting the test papers already. When Nora walked closer, she noticed he was specifically correcting her test paper.

“Sir!” she nodded in respect toward other teachers when they looked at them.

“Nora, you have done a good job. You even used the formulas taught in university to solve the numericals. And though I will cut marks for it, you have scored hundred percent marks in general.” a hint of excitement in his voice. “Tell me how you know this method?” he pointed at the numerical, hardly hiding his excitement now.

“I have seen it in my study materials.” the curt reply made him sigh.

“Nora, I know that there is a lot of gossip surrounding you. As long as you change your ways and stop meeting boys all the time. I will support you and clear your name when it comes to cheating during exams.” he offered in a kind voice but Nora just smiled. Her eyes were filled with cold and indifference.

“Have you ever seen me doing anything shameful with any of the boys? Forget about me, are you doubting Victor’s and Alex’s character?”

“…” Mr Summer was dumbfounded. Though he did not dare to offend those boys. He personally believes that Victor is a sensible child and would not make mistakes and Alex is too cold to care for a girl.

“So you believe that they did not do me but I have done it with them? What kind of logic was that?” Her crass words made the other female teachers cough and look away. Mr summer felt his cheeks burning. When had he said that she had done something?

“You! I am only trying to help you. Yet you are speaking such nonsense.” he glared at her again. She might be good at studies but her character was rotten.

“You have believed that I cheated in exams too. But now you do not. Then what made you believe that other rumors about me are true?” she slowly shook her head. The teacher might have lost his calm. But she was in control of her emotions till the end. “But it is alright. I do not want you to clear them from me. I am enjoying all the limelight I can get. Now, shall I leave, sir?” The man was stunned by her words. He had never seen such a mature young girl before.

He slightly nodded and waved his hands. Nora left immediately.

She took out her mobile and checked the forum again. It had posted pictures of the pretest results. The last picture was where she was called to meet Alric and Amaya. From the angle it was taken, it looked like Nora was standing too close to Alric and his face was dark in it.

“Look! A new target had been found by our so-called topper!” was written beneath the picture. Nora’s lips curled into a mocking smile. She logged in with the new account she had created and wrote a few insulting words for herself.

“Only Penny is best! She also came in top ten but she did not put any show off. I like her so much.” she typed and smiled when she immediately got five likes over it.

“Oh dear Penny! Do not worry, your sister will support you till the end.”
