Chapter 148: Her First Proposal!

“Of course, tell everyone Nora who are you dating? Is it Victor or Alex? They both want to know the answer too.” Nora looked at Alex. he was staring at her coldly. But his eyes flickered slightly.

Victor was already staring at her this whole time. He was waiting for her reply too.

“I am working for Victor’s father. I am designing a game for him. And Victor is my manager. Working together, we have developed a good friendship. That’s all.” Victor’s eyes dimmed but he did not stop looking at Nora. he knew he had not expressed himself well and Nora did not know about his feelings. “And as for Alex, he is my friend’s friend. He had offered me support so many times. He had been kind to me and took me under his wings. You say that he is aloof. But you are wrong. I have seen him being kind toward all of his friends. He did not show it, but he had helped all of them with everything he had. I am sure he would come to protect them if they need help but they are too strong for needing any.” she sighed, “it looks like i am the only weak friend he had.”

Mike snickered and stood up. He pushed the table hard to create noise.

“What is your problem Penny? Nora had not said a word against you even when you had injured her. Could you not stop targeting her even for a day? Or are you that jealous?” Penny flinched. She glared at Mike.

“Mike, it is not about you. Why are you taking her side? Do not tell me that you also..” she did not continue but looked at Alisha with pity. Alisha paused. She looked at Penny and then at Mike. his eyes had widened and he looked horrified by the statement.

“Alisha, that is not true.” he spoke hurriedly when Alisha’s brows furrowed and she frowned.

“Of course, that is not true. We have been together for so long. Do you think I am a fool to believe a liar.” she snorted, “do not pay attention to her. She just could not handle that Nora is gaining more attention than her.” she smiled at Mike who relaxed.

He glared at Penny before sitting on his seat and started working again. Many looked at Penny with pity or snickers. Penny’s eyes burnt. She had never been this insulting in her life.

Her cheeks were burning red and her eyes were blurry.

“You! She must have asked you to insult me in exchange for notes. She must have added that in her email. That is why you are targeting me. First you came to bully me and then refused to take the notes I offered. Now you all are targeting me and insulting me when I have worked so hard to help all of you.” Penny’s shoulders quiver as she sobbed hard.

Just then, the recess ended and Mr Summer came to their class. He was confused to see all the students were already in the class. Most of the time, he had to scold a few for returning late.

But he frowned when he noticed Penny crying hard.

“What happened here? Why are you all creating a ruckus?” his eyes narrowed at Penny. Penny finally wiped her tears and lowered her head making Mr Summer frown further.

He pointed at Kate. “you! Tell me what happened here?” Kate stood up uneasily. Even she was not sure what exactly happened. It did not look like Nora had asked anyone to insult Penny.

“Kate!” the teacher called her impatiently and she inhaled a breath.

“They were taking notes from Penny and.. Nora! And then they started comparing it, I think.” Penny’s face turned uglier. She lowered it to hide her hatred for Kate. How could she lie! She had to inform that Nora had bribed others to insult her. She was her friend, yet she was taking Nora’s side!

She must be sold too. No, she would teach Kate a lesson or everyone would start trampling over her.

“So you were only comparing notes for exams?” and it made a girl cry?

Many nodded, revived by Kate’s choice of words. “Show me those notes then!”

Mike looked at Nora for her permission. Nora nodded without hesitation. But no one looked at Penny. One of the boys stood up taking Penny’s notes and walked to the teacher’s table. He did not leave after submitting the notes. He stood there obediently. But his eyes were roving over the notes Nora had prepared.

He had already read a few pages of Penny’s notes. He wanted to see if Nora was better.

The teacher opened the Maths part and started comparing it. His eyes widened slightly and he could not help but bring notes closer to his face and flip pages again and again. The bell was about to ring but the teacher had completely forgotten about the class. His eyes were glued on the notes.

“Nora! Have you prepared the notes yourself?” Nora stood up and nodded when the teacher looked at her uneasily.

He had targeted her too when she was accused of cheating. Looking at Nora, he felt a welter of emotions.

“Then, why were you so weak before in studies? You used to be in the bottom ten but now you are always on the top. What changed?” Everyone looked at her. They all wanted to know it too.

How did a fool become so smart?

Nora smiled bitterly. She looked at Penny and then sighed and stared at the ceiling. She blinked a few times suppressing her bad memories.

“Sir! My parents had died long ago. No one was there to guide me. I used to live a stifling life in a large house. I was supposed to do manual work there to return the favor of my studies and the good clothes I wear when I go outside. I did not have time to study or worry about it.

But when i realized, i am slowly ruining my future, i ran away. Now I live in a dorm, where I do not need to worry that someone would come to scold me harshly or beat me. So, I can finally concentrate on my studies.”
