Chapter 178: No Wound

“Alric!” Alric closed his eyes when he heard the tearful voice. He did not turn and kept staring at Alex. His body was trembling a bit.

He did not have the courage to face this woman. She had done so much for him. And only asked for Alex’s welfare in exchange. And yet.. He could not do it for her.

He felt her warm skin touching his hand and his skin burnt. The shame, the guilt, the hatred and self loathing enveloped him in their arms. His whole body froze and he did not know what to say to the woman.

“It is not your fault child that Alex was fighting with a group of thugs!” the woman sighed. She knew this child too well. Many think that he was cold, but she knew how vulnerable he was in his heart.

Alric’s gaze flickered. But before he could ask something, he heard the girl coughing. He finally noticed Amaya standing beside Alex’s mother.

“I have informed my aunt that Alex has a fight on the campus. She had already met Nora. the girl who saved Alex!” Amaya hinted in a sweet voice. Alric’s eyes went cold.

He did not reply to the girl but wrapped his hands around the woman’s elderly hands. She had not noticed but her skin was slowly loosening.

“Mother, Alex is fine. You do not need to worry.” The woman looked at Alex. Tears brimming in her eyes again.

“I am worried when he will grow up and learn his responsibilities. If his father would know, he would lose his temper again and this time.. I could not save Alex.” helplessness washed over her face.

She loved Alex so much. He was all she had. Yet the child never understands it.

Alric squeezed her hands bringing her attention back to him.

“We will not inform father. Alex was only having some fun. He is not a mistake.” how could the woman not know. She was sure that Amaya had not told her complete truth. There was no wound mark on Alex’s body. While the girl saving him was heavily injured and covered her bandages.

Why would they attack her viciously instead of Alex. if he was in danger?

But she did not ask anything. She knew Alric was only protecting her from the pain.

“I will stay here for the night. I know that you have a lot of pending work and you need rest. Go!” she pushed his hand away only to make him frown.

“No, mother. I know this place better. If there would be any emergency, I can take care of Alex better. I will call you when he wakes up.” he announced in a firm tone.

The woman looked at him pleadingly but he shook his head. “You need rest. You can come in the morning. Then I will go and sleep for a while. But for now, I will be here, guarding him.” she did not like the word Guard and bit her lips. But Alric looked determined.

“Aunt, I will stay here for the night. You can call me if you worry too much. Or I will call you every hour to give you an update. You do not need to worry about Alex or Alric. I will take care of both of them.” Amaya squeezed her hands and assured her. The woman sighed and nodded.

“As long as you are here, my child. I am not worried about anything.”

Amaya blushed and shook her head.

“What are you saying? I am part of this family too. AM i not?” Alric’s eyes went cold as he noticed the blush spreading on Amaya’s face.

“That is not needed.” it took all his control to not throw the girl out himself when she glared at him.

“Mother!”

“Hush child! A girl would take better care of the patient. And this way, you can take turns to take care of him and rest too. I will not feel assured of leaving you alone here.” Alric opened his mouth. But in the end, he had nothing to retort.

The woman smiled and nodded at Amaya with a meaningful look. Amaya blushed instantly and hugged her.

“Good girl! Call me as you have promised.” she patted her head and smiled at Amaya and then walked to Alex.

She touched his face, filled with grief. An indescribable feeling hurt her. But when the doctor came to check Alex, she took a step back and left when the doctor assured her that Alex was only sleeping.

“The girl had taken the knife. It had saved Alex. he would wake up in two days. You have nothing to worry about. He is just in shock.” The doctor looked at Alex before repeating every word he was told. Only then did his mother leave the hospital. Amaya escorted her to the car.

She returned with hurried steps. Her anxious face only relaxed when she noticed Alric sitting on the sofa.

“I thought you would have left. After all, you are always so busy.” she complained as she walked toward him and sat beside him. “Aunt looked so worried. I am sure she would cry again in the car.” she shook her head and sighed. Worry was evident in her voice. She stealthily looked at Alric but the man had no expression on his face. He was silently staring at Alex.

“I know that you are angry that I informed my aunt. But Alric. It was needed. If she had come to know from any other source..”

“There is no other source, Amaya.” Alric finally turned to look at her. A storm was building in those cold eyes. “I have made sure not a single soul knows about this accident. Everything was under my control. I wonder how you know about it, Amayra?”

The woman froze for a second. Her eyes flickering before she sighed.

“I was in the hospital looking for you when you brought Alex and that girl. I have watched you entering from your own office. If you doubt me, you can confirm from your secretary, Alric. What do you think, how do I know about this accident?”
