“Tsk! You are talking as if I was fated to die there.” Though Alex said that in a mocking tone, Nora noticed how his eyes wandered around. As if he was trying to hide his uneasiness. “That man, Tony, I have known him for two years. I have taken goods like that in the past too. It’s just, it was stronger this time.”

Nora snorted. She did not give him face at all as she held her top and pulled it up.

“And this wound? Why did his men attack me when I came to meet you?” her voice had a cold rage that made Alex frown. He looked at her in bewilderment. “Amayra had made up the story that ruffians attacked you and I saved you.

But me telling you part of her story is the truth. That night..” Nora repeated what happened that night in detail. Except the part where she had called Alric. She left it vaguely as to how Alric reached there with his force.

“Nora, i..”

“Save it, Alex! The man had been paid to hurt you. I heard him talking to someone over the phone to give you those dosages. He had tapped you for a long time.” his eyes flickered a bit and he looked away again. “But here you are, acting pathetic and running away from your mistakes. And here I thought that you are a strong man who would shoulder his mistakes.” her voice was mocking that irked him.

He gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes.

“What do you know! You have no idea that..”

“That your brother took your place in your own house? That just an illegitimate bastard was cherished by both your parents and you can not handle the abandonment?” she raised a brow. “But when I saw your mother crying these past days, I did not see abandonment in them, Alex. All I saw was love. If there was a fee to transfer your pain to her, she would have done it with a smile on her face.” Nora took a deep breath, controlling her own rage.

“You have no idea what abandonment feels like, Alex.” Alex closed his eyes. He knew more than everyone that his mother loved him.

“Yes, your anger should be directed to your father. Alric did not want to be your step brother too. I am sure he would have felt trapped too when he was brought to your house. He wanted to run away but he had no choice. If you are a victim, he is too. The only difference is, he is fighting this trap with strategies and winning. While you are fighting with your petty rebellion it has made you a drug addict and sick person with no backbone. Your coldness and anger could not hide this fact.” she spat with venom in her voice that left him stunned.

“If you hate me so much, why did you save me?” his voice rose only to earn another sneer from her.

“I do not hate you, Alex. I pity you. You have everything yet you are not able to cherish it. I.. forget it! You have helped me so much in the past, now we are even. If you do not want to be friends, I have no intention to force you.” not only she had been even with Alex. She had paid Alric’s debt too.

She did not need to follow Alex like his shadow anymore. If he had just a little bit of mind, he would not go down the same path.

And if he still would, then not even his shadows could save him.

Alex stared hard at her, but he did not stop her. His chest burning from all those thoughts. When Nora returned to her room, Victor was waiting for her with a bouquet in his hands.

Her anger faded instantly and she smiled at him. Running, she wrapped her arms around him and sighed.

“Nora! You are still injured. Why are you running like that! And where did you go?” he frowned as he held her lightly. He was afraid that his grip would hurt her wounds.

“I was feeling stifled. I went for a walk in the garden. But I saw a foolish child fighting with his family there and I felt angry.” she murmured, rubbing her forehead on his chest.

Victor laughed at her actions.

“Who would have thought such a strong and brave girl like you would be saddened just by seeing a child.” he rubbed her hair and then pulled her in his arms.

Nora grinned and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. Being pampered was the best feeling of this world.

He placed her on the bed and opened the bento box. Only the smell of the warm food made her relax.

“Mother told me to bring you home for a day or two after you get discharged. Nora, I want to use this chance to tell her about us. Though I am sure she knows already. The way she cooked for you diligently made me feel that I have to fight with you for her love and attention in the future.” Nora smiled softly as she ate the wraps. She could feel the hard work behind making them.

“But if you want more time..” she wanted a long time for her revenge. But that did not mean, she could not start her own family in the meanwhile. She noticed how stiff he was, and how sweat was covering his face.

“No, let’s tell her.” he looked relieved at once as he nodded. As they shared lunch and chatted about this and that, Alric closed the screen of his laptop. He finally pressed the bell and his secretary walked in.

“Are they still waiting outside?” the worried secretary nodded at once, afraid that he would still ask her to let them wait.

“Let them come in and send someone to check Alex at once.” relieved, the secretary immediately brought Amayra and his mother to the office.
