Chapter 186: Sixty Thousand Dollars!

“You are good to go!” Max smiled at Nora as he checked her reports and signed the discharge papers. But he did not pass them to the nurse immediately. He stared at her and only when she nodded slightly, did he let go of the papers.

The nurse left after receiving the papers, leaving both of them alone in the room.

“Nora, not only your new, but your old wound is also healing too well.” he took her left hand and slowly stretched it. She followed his unsaid instructions and moved her hands earning an approving nod from him.

But his face still looked gloomy and worried.

“But if your family is still targeting you, then you can inform me. I am sure our hospital will help you with mental abuse too. Alric had recently upgraded the list of patients that could ask for help from the fund.” Nora stiffened at his name. The man.. She had waited for him for three days. But he did not return. She was not sure if she had to follow Alex or her job was done here.

But her stiffening was misunderstood. She had requested him to let her stay for three more days. Was someone following her? Was this an accident or someone was targeting her?

Except Alric and his family, no one knew that Alex and her accident were related. They only knew that Alex was found unconscious in the racing ground and his friends informed Alric.

Nora was attacked while she was going out. Looking at his worried eyes, she knew that he had misunderstood just like Victor. Normally, she would be floating but now, she could only shake her head.

“I have not been in their contact. I am living in the dorms. My school had strict rules and I was not sure if I could follow them with my injuries. That is why I wanted to stay here. Thank you, Dr Sullivan for taking my care. You are more like a family to me.” a burst of warmth appeared on his face and his face relaxed.

“Then call me when you need help next time. But I hope it is not another injury.” he flicked her forehead and stood up. He smiled when she rubbed her forehead looking aggrieved. Nora sighed and she saw him leaving.

“I already owe you way too much. How could I ask for more? I will only wait when I get the chance to pay my debt.” her eyes looked lost at once as if she was looking at Max from a different time as he left.

Hesitantly, she typed a message for Alric, informing him that she was leaving the hospital. But she would wait for his call later. And if he wanted, they could meet at night.

In the other room, Ava was talking to Alric seriously while Amayra was sitting beside Alric. His phone was placed on the table.

When the message arrived, the screen lit. She could not read the whole message, but she read the name “Nora” and saw two back to back messages.

The first one started with “I am getting discharged.” while the second one asked to meet her directly. Her eyes narrowed. She knew that woman was upto no good.

“Aunt, I have a phone call to make. I will be back soon.” Amyra bowed apologetically to Ava who waved her hands. She was only talking to Alric about the future precautions she needed to make while dealing with Alex.

She did not pay much attention to Amayra.

“Ha! I have thought that you are targeting Alex, so I have let you be. But who would have thought that your aims are high.” she gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with malice.

She pulled her dress a bit lower and walked into Nora’s room. Nora had already changed the hospital’s uniform and packed her bag. Since it was still the school time, she had not informed Victor that she was getting discharged.

In the past few days, he had been exhausted from taking care of her. Today, she would bring good food and surprise him.

But when the door opened, she sighed.

“Who told you that I am getting..” Nora paused. The person in front of her was not Victor. Neither was Alric who had read her message.

“Miss Amayra.” Nora nodded slightly at the woman but she did not hide her confusion.

“I heard from Alric that you are getting discharged. He wanted to come and thank you personally, but he was busy with Aunt. Aunt did not let him go. She is still worried about Alex.” she smiled softly as she entered the room and sat on the sofa.

Nora was in a hurry. But she could only sigh and follow the woman on the sofa.

“I understand. How is Alex now?” she did not get the chance to visit him again.

“He is getting better. But it would need time and he might need to go to a rehabilitation center. But thanks to you, his life is saved.” with that, Amayra took out a wad of cash from her bag. “This is a small token of appreciation from me and Alric. Keep it. You can tell us if you need more.”

Hiding the condescending look in her eyes, she smiled sweetly at Nora. Nora stared at the wad of cash on the table and then at Amayra.

“Why? Do you think it is less?” Amayra nodded in understanding, “yes, of course. After all, the second and only legitimate son of the Spencer family is worth a lot more.” She took out a cheque book and wrote a cheque with a knowing smile on her face.

“Here, I hope this will be enough for you. Do not mind my manners, Nora. But me and Alric do not like to owe anyone. It was his idea that I offer you your reward before you leave.” she sighed, feeling bad suddenly, “after all, we know your condition. How much people like you need money!”
