Chapter 196: Nora Missed Exams

“Sir! Nora is still not here.” Alisha stood up and looked at the empty seat worriedly. They were the top ten students selected from their school.

Penny glared at the girl.

“Why are you creating a scene? Do you think the teacher had not noticed it?” she rebuked. No one had ever cared for Nora before. But now, there was not a single day when she did not hear others asking about Nora.

Nora this, Nora that! It had exhausted her to her bones. How she wanted to go and stab that girl to get rid of her now.

“Silence! You all should concentrate on your exams.” the teacher scolded both of them. Yet Penny felt better. At least the teacher is not blinded and asking all of them to wait for Nora.

Penny held the examination paper tightly. The exam was difficult. But she had worked day and night to defeat Nora.

She held the pen confidently and started writing answers. There were sixty other students giving exams with them. They all have come to represent their school. Only ten of them would be selected to go to Neglends. They would make history for their school.

Three hours felt two short as they wrote the answers without stopping even to take a breath. Only the sound of rustling of pages and footsteps of teachers could be heard in the large hall.

There were three teachers from different schools in the hall. They walked taking rounds of the whole class with a stern face. Occasionally, one of them would stand behind a student and read their answers. But their faces did not have any expression, making the student even more nervous.

Penny did not raise her head from the start to the end. Her hands were covered in sweat as she wrote the answers hurriedly. This was her chance to show Nora, she was destined to be her shadow. Why does it matter if she had made better now, Penny was going to use them to get selected and earn pride for their school.

“Ring!” the bell woke them up from their nightmares. They held the sheets tightly hoping to get a few more minutes.

“Time is up!” One teacher stood in each row and collected the answer sheets.

A few students sighed while weak girls started to cry.

“The paper was too long for three hours!” another one sighed listening to her.

“It was not that the exam was long. They have mixed questions from each subject. It took us some time to comprehend them. When I heard there would only be a single exam this year, I was expecting it to be eight sections.” many nodded with a gloomy face.

The teachers had already left the room. The students collected and started discussing the answers. Their expressions change with every word.

Penny looked at them with ridicule.

“What do you expect from such a prestigious exam? I am sure I will score at least 380 marks.” many blinked.

“You have only ten questions wrong?” a person asked in a cracked voice. The exam had two hundred questions. Each carrying two marks. If she got ninety percent, she was sure to go for the provincial exam.

“I have only five of them wrong. But I am being modest here.” she flicked her hair and raised her head haughty as she left the classroom.

Penny did not wait for any. She returned to her room and closed the door. These days, she does not talk to others or behave like a noble girl. Since Nora had returned, she had heard many of them whispering behind her back.

She did not want to fight them, so she mostly ignored them. But that did not mean she was not annoyed.

Kate was reading a novel when Penny returned to her room.

“How lucky! You still have time to read classics!” Kate smiled, she did not understand the sarcasm in her voice but thought Penny was exhausted after the exam.

“The teachers suggested that I read it to improve my grip on english.” She looked at the book and sighed. “How was your exam?”

Penny controlled her mockery. Kate was the only one standing on her side. Even Lucy was behaving strangely these days.

“It was exhausting. I was worried that Nora could not give the exam. My mind wandered about her all the time. If she had..” Penny sighed, “Kate, would you go and check if she was fine?”

“You are still worried about her?” Kate frowned at once! “She had maligned your name, Penny. Did you not notice how others are pointing at you and whispering these days? She has accused you of many things we do not know! You should stay away from her.”

“That is the reason!” She walked closer and sat beside Kate. she held her hands in hers and sighed. “I am a short tempered girl. Nora uses others and accuses me or insults me and I react badly. That is why I am losing friends. If only I had better control of my anger…” her eyes looked so dim that Kate sighed. Her heart ached for the girl.

How could she help her? She had no idea!

“You have justified reasons to be angry, penny. Do not think too much about her. I will go and bring you some snacks. You will feel better then.” Penny nodded but her face was still downcast that worried Kate.

She bit her lips as she walked out of their room. Hesitating, she went to Nora’s room and knocked it.

Emma opened the door yawning. She was dressed in a strapped small nightwear. Kate was stunned to see the look.

“You! This is not even night. Why are you dressed like that?” her voice was full of shock but Emma just stretched herself. With her petite body, she looked so seductive doing that. Kate blushed and looked away.

“Because I was sleeping. Penny’s parrot! Why are you here?” Penny Parrot? Did they call her like that behind her back!

Kate frowned!

“What nonsense is that! I am here to look for Nora!”
