Chapter 197: The Bet

“Nora! Penny’s parrot is here to meet you.” Emma yawned and walked inside the room. She snuggled on her bed and closed her eyes without a care.

Kate blinked. She hesitated if she should walk in or not when Nora came out of the washroom. A towel was wrapped around her hair and a leisurely look on her face. Due to the heat of the water, her face looked rosy and skin looked so soft.

“You do not look sick. Why did you not give the exam then?” It took Kate a few seconds to react. “It was noon! Who takes a bath at this time?”

Noea raised a brow. A cold smile on her face but her eyes looked so dark that Kate took a step back unconsciously. But she stopped when she realized it and raised her head high to show her confidence.

“Why do you care?” Nora tilted her head. She walked toward Kate barefoot.

“Whether it is my exam or the time to take a bath!? Why do you care about it?” The question was so simple. Yet Kate felt so intimidated by the look in Nora’s eyes that she could not reply.

“That… Penny was worried for you. As sisters, you should be more accommodating. Penny is short tempered but she is a very kind girl. If not for your tricks, had she ever raised her voice on you? You have..”Kate had lowered her head and held her dress tightly as she spoke. She felt like a beast was staring back at her.

“Is that it?” Kate took another step back when Nora stood in front of her. “And you say you are not a parrot?” Nora chuckled softly but her eyes were glowering. Her hands came for Kate’s chin and she forced Kate to look at her.

“I have many ways to save you. But you do not want to be saved.” Kate frowned and struggled. Her whole attention was on Nora’s grip. She stumbled as she freed herself from Nora.

“You! I will complain to the new warden that you tried to hurt me. Just you wait..”Kate rubbed her chin as if an invisible hand was still holding it.

“Go ahead. She lives in the same old office!” Nora pointed at the left hallway from her chin and before Kate could reply, the door was slammed shut on her face.

Kate flinched at the sound. She rubbed her chest and took a long breath.

“This girl is crazy! Penny should stay away from her.” she had only taken a few steps when she found Lucy walking toward Nora’s room with a bright smile on her face. Kate paused in her steps and hid behind the pillar.

She watched Lucy knocking at the door. Nora opened and Lucy entered the room. The door was closed before she could hear a word.

“What was Lucy doing there?” Kate frowned and walked away.

“Did you meet Kate in the hallways?” Nora asked when Lucy took the seat.

“Hmm? That new parrot? I did not see her. Why?” Lucy was wearing a crop top with high rise jeans. Her face was glowing with joy and love.

“Nothing! So..” her simple words made Lucy conscious at once.

“Penny is working too hard for exams. She is reading day and night as if her life was depending on it. After sending Jamie with his friends, she had not irked me.

But Jamie is following me everywhere like a bug. He had threatened Adam a few times. But he could not threaten everyone. If he continued this, he would soon be beaten.” Lucy grinned. She had run a lifetime behind him. But she had never thought that she was so pathetic.

Now that he followed her in the same way, she felt justice and relief.

“And you are satisfied just with that? Do you not want the truth to come out?” Nora’s lazy voice stunned the girl at once.

“Wait! You mean.. But how?” Lucy’s eyes widened. “I was stunned that evening. But you were all calm. You could have made a clip of theirs. But you did not. Do you think it is easy to get another chance? Especially after my makeover. Jamie does not pay much attention to Nora and Nora is all busy with her exams.” She sighed. She only had one regret that no one would know the truth. They would only think that she had left Jamie because she had choices now.

But she would have been with Jamie no matter how she looked as long as he had loved her. But.. her sparkling eyes dimmed at once making Nora sigh.

“Exam is finished now. And you have forced Jamie to follow you because he did not have a chance to look at Penny. But as long as he had you. He will have time to look at Penny again.” Nora was playing with the pen. Her voice did not have any emotion but Lucy could feel her heart ripping apart.

“You mean I am just an achievement for her! Even when I look so beautiful, he would cheat on me the moment I accept his affections?” her body quivers at that thought. “No! Jamie could not fall that low. Now, he only has me in his eyes. Even if he had cheated on me in the past. I looked ugly at that time.” She struggled with her words.

But there was no confidence in her voice and when she noticed pity in Nora’s eyes, she wanted to go and beat Jamie.

“There is only one way to know that Lucy.” The smile on Nora’s face could be called seductive if not for the cold glint in her eyes. “Go and accept him. Kiss him if needed. He must be sure that you are back in his hands.
