Penny quivered with rage. She turned around and left the room. She had spent so many gifts to befriend all of them. Waiting for them to sympathize with her and insult Nora. But now they wanted her to introduce them. They wish!

“Ingrate! They all are greedy and shameless. After taking gifts from me, they want to befriend my enemy.” she spat the words with venom as she left. But the crowd was busy cheering in a loud voice. No one cared if she left the room.

The perseverance and confidence in Nora’s smile attracted the attention of everyone in an instant. They did not know how wicked that smile was.

“Her memory exceeds every student at present. The sheets of other exams had already been corrected. Though the result will be announced tomorrow, Nora Stone of Southern Province has qualified.” After a brief discussion among the senior teachers, they announced the name without any reservation.

“Nora! Nora!” For nerds and scholars, the bright students were no less than celebrities. They inspire them to do better and hope that they will be standing there one day.

Everyone present there was awestruck with her knowledge and memory. The teacher hugged her with joy.

The thundering applause came from the teachers, the eliminated students, and her competitors. Nora, the first one who passed the exam, looked at everything with a surreal look.

Though she had promised herself that she would take revenge. She would make herself so strong and untouchable that her family would never be able to harm her. She had always been afraid. She had been so scared that she did not dare to admit it even to herself.

She had a name and now she would have a chance to leave that cursed country, that cursed place, where her uncle and aunt live, where Benard lived for forever. But she had lost her child in the process. She had… Nora closed her eyes when tears brimmed.

No one understood her. They all thought it was tears of happiness.

“Thank you. It is all because of your guidance.” she said calmly, bowing. There was no pride in pompous words. Her calm and humble attitude won the hearts of the teachers.

The crowd slowly started to dissipate once the teachers left. Nora walked away. She went to the garden and sat there on an empty bench listlessly. Her eyes had lost the spark. She looked like she had lost it miserably.

She felt someone sitting beside her and slowly turned.

“You have outpassed my score.” The voice was calm. Alric did not ask her why she was so sad when she was selected. When she would represent their country in a national competition. She did not ask him why he was here. They just accompany each other silently.

“I will accompany you for the next round. You might know but the last winner guides the next winner.” how much time had passed. Alric only spoke when Nora looked much clamor and the light in her eyes returned.

“I am sorry.” Alric blinked. This was the first time he had seen real emotions on her face and she had even apologized to her. Her ears burnt after speaking. His cold and dark gaze made her burn for some reason. She gulped her saliva and asked, “How is Alex?”

“He is better. He will be better and return soon with mother.” She did not know that their mother had left too. She softly nodded.

“But are you sure you have the time to take me. How about you refuse, there must be..”

“You do not want to go with me?” Nora paused. Did it sound like she did not want to go with him?

She softly shook her head.

“It would be great if you accompany me. But I am not sure if I can win. So I do not want to waste your time and efforts on me.” It was hard to admit but she was glad that she did it.

“Is the great Nora finally doubting herself? I am amazed!” he laughed amusedly making her shake her head. But her stiff shoulders slowly relaxed. “Even if you don’t win, Nora. you will get admission in the best universities of the country and your uncle and aunt would not be able to find you.”

“But then, I will find them. That company, that house, that position. It belongs to me! Alric…” she gulped, not sure if she could trust him. If he would help her. But he is the only one who knew, even if it was only a part of her life. “I want to snatch everything that belongs to me. I want to earn enough to buy back everything.”

Alric’s eyes flickered. Even if he knew her intentions, he had never expected her to confess it to him. Out of everyone, him? But his eyes slowly relaxed and his lips curled.

“Then, we will work as a team again. But I have to find something for myself in this deal.” his smile relieved her. He did not make an empty promise but a fair deal. If not, she would not have been able to accept it.

And something told her that he knew. That was the reason he had added the exchange part.

“Now, your friends are looking for you. You should go.” he pointed at the distance with his eyes. She turned to see Alisha and teachers were standing there.

“I will meet you tomorrow at the airport. I have something to deal with today.” he stood up and left. Nora closed her eyes, but when she opened them again, she was calm and confident like before.

“Nora! You are here.” Alisha finally smiled. “All the students and teachers are celebrating your success tonight. They have booked a small trip for us for a day. Since all the students and teachers had to return after the announcement of the results tomorrow. Come, we are getting late for it.”
