“….” many faces darkened hearing Amyra. Her words prove that they could not afford asking questions from Nora! Many faces twisted but they did not blame Amyra. But for them, Nora was too arrogant.

“Ha! Then tell me why herbs have not contributed this far when it comes to treatment of cancer? Except for filing papers and giving some relief, what have the herbs done?” Nora smiled. A young girl, barely an adult, smiled. It should look sweet but the middle aged man felt sweat on his neck when she smiled at him. He touched his cold neck with strange fear.

“Because the field is not developed yet. All the researchers like you support chemotherapy or harsh chemicals to kill the infected cells. But many developing countries like India and China had worked on it. They have shown results but they could not spread it and support it with proof because of lack of funds.”

“And you are collecting funds to support them?” a woman laughed with ridicule.

“I am not that rich madam. I am collecting this meagre amount for my higher studies since I am an orphan.” the woman paused, suddenly feeling embarrassed by her question.

“Do you have a detailed plan on how herbs could be used for treatment?” The old man who had spoken earlier spoke in a kind voice. “Little girl, if your idea has any base, I will invest in it and provide you help.” Every herd turned to look at Nora.

She slammed those notes harshly on the table.

“You can have all these as long as you give my reply.” not only was her voice insulting but her actions were rude. Scientists were known for their calm and broadened attitude. They would not quibble with a girl no matter what the discussion was. They felt embarrassed by Jennifer’s actions but Nora’s eyes gleamed as she looked at the notes.

Without any care, she picked up the notes and counted them. With a satisfied nod, she replied.

“I studied books in the library and on the internet. I have not tested it yet on the patients but if i get a chance, i will continue the study so that i could find a proper treatment. Spencer group of hospitals had shown their interest but as you can see..” she touched the wad of cash with longing, “i am too poor to continue my studies, forget about research. But yes, the herbs were tested by a few organisations. I have added their details in the reference point of my research and if you are interested. I can sell the formula I have generated from those herbs.
