Chapter 259: A Limping Hero

“I am limping now. How can I be a hero?” His men were standing near the lift too. Every nook and corner of this building was his territory now.

Nora waved a hand at one of his men. He looked at Alric for a second before walking toward her.

“We need a doctor to take out the bullet from his leg.” the man’s eyes widened when he noticed the gunshot on Alric’s leg. He informed the others and soon man helped him in walking. They took him toward the parked car.

“Nora..” Nora hesitated.

“I need to return to the hotel. My exam will start in a few hours and I am exhausted.” Alric started hard at her for a few seconds before nodding. The door was closed and the car was sped off.

Nora started at the car with a strange look in her eyes. It was a welter of emotions. Longing, disappointment and pain. She pushed those thoughts away.

When she turned, a young woman was standing behind her. She smiles at Nora warmly.

“I am assigned to drop you off at your hotel.” Nora raised a brow when the woman pointed at the small car standing on the other side.

Nora walked and the woman followed closely. A driver started the car as soon as they sat down.

“You will leave after dropping me off?” the woman’s smile froze. She looked around awkwardly.

“Miss, I am assigned to protect you till you return home. Please do not make it difficult for me. This job is important to me. It is the first chance to return his favor.” Nora looked away. She did not need to ask the details.

It had nothing to do with her. Yet for some reason, she wanted to know more about Alric. Why did he save so many lives? And why did he need such a large army?

“Your boss! He is not part of the Mafia. Is he?” the woman blinked. She had not expected this kind of question. She laughed loudly, freely.

“No, he is too kind for that.”

“I have seen enough kind mafia bosses in dramas.” Nora retorted. She did not understand why she retorted in the first place! The woman only shook her head smiling. She looked at the crisp black suit she was wearing.

“We are someone who had vowed to protect him with our lives. Though we feel we are miniscule in his presence and he hardly needs our assistance.” the woman sighed and looked at Nora.

“Are you dating our boss?” The girl was too chirpy for an employee. Nora shook her head. It hardly took them half an hour to reach her hotel. Since she did not reply, the girl did not press Nora with more questions.

When Nora reached the hotel, Director Reid was waiting for her at the door.

He looked so relieved when he found her. He held her hand and did not let her go for a long time.

“I am so relieved! Why? Why did you leave the hotel in the first place? Next time you need something, you will inform me and I will provide it for you.” his voice coming rugged. His breathing was rugged and he looked like he would have a stroke any moment.

Nora felt bad for the worried elder. She had never thought he would be so anxious.

“I am fine! It was nothing more than an outing. I will be better after resting.” Director Reid wanted to complain more. But when she looked exhausted, he shut his mouth and escorted her to her room.

He did not leave even after closing the room for a long time.

“I am here, do not worry.” he raised a brow at the girl but looking at the small logo of Alric’s chain of hospitals on her coat, Director Reid nodded and finally left for his room.

Their relationship was not so simple. He had seen the anxiety on Alric’s face when they had received the call. The boy had run away without a hint of hesitation. A mere acquaintance would call the police worriedly or use his resources to save nora. But would not put his life in danger.

But he had no intention to meddle in their affairs. Nora is still too young. She should study first.

Only in two hours, the exam started. Everyone was gathered in the large hall for the last competition.

Today, the decision of their future would be made here. The students were thrilled, anxious and worried for the competition.

Nora stood among them with a calm smile on her face. She could hear a few comments but she did not pay them any attention.

The teachers came on the stage one by one with a lot of test papers in their hands.

“So far, you have given four written tests. The test series had already been totalled and corrected, your result is right here.” the announcer smiled.

“Not only that, a few of you have filed a complaint that the last exam was biased!” the students bowed their heads feeling guilty. But their resolve did not change. Why else would there be separate exam papers for all of them?

“Since our management is challenged, we have decided to show the exam papers on this large screen. We will postpone the main exam for half an hour and review the exam papers first.” One by one questions started to appear on the large screen.

The students stared at those exam papers with a mix of feelings. There were a few question they could do easily. A few were indeed difficult. And a few they have never heard.

But almost all the papers comprise the same amount of difficulty. It would be hard to challenge the exams.

But then… they all stared at the last question paper in confusion. It was full of difficult questions. Even if they tried hard, they could hardly solve ten to twenty percent of the question paper. It felt like it was full of university level questions.

“It feels like the exam was really Biased towards Nora Stone.”
