Chapter 264: No One But Her

“Alric! You should choose your words wisely. If I did not know any better, I would have thought you were flirting with me.” Nora laughed to ease the tension between them. The air felt heavier. His gaze was burning her skin.

“What if I am?” She was stunned. She gave him a chance to back away. But she had never thought he would strike back with such boldness.

“I have a boyfriend.” She reminded him of frowning but he only laughed.

“You mean a boy who did not know how to take care of you. He did not even come to accompany you when you had such an important day. I did not see him beside you when you needed someone.” Nora looked away not liking how he was judging her life. How he was judging Victor.

“He was not selected so he could not come. We both know that..”

“I only know that if you were my girlfriend, I would have come no matter what.” Nora frowned and tried to pull her hands away. She did not like the way he was looking at her and judging Victor.

“But I am not. And I do not believe in snatching, so you do not need to worry. I will not harm you or him.” Nora felt a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach. She looked away and waited for the song to end.

“Alex was right.” he whispered again, “you do not care about wealth and status even when you fight for money like your life was depending on it.”

“I will take it as a compliment.” she growled and he laughed.

“It was a compliment. Would you like to eat something?” she was indeed hungry. She was planning to go to eat after dancing with Jake. he was an anomaly.

Something unique and not planned. She could not understand what he wanted.

“Alric, if you need something..” Alric shook his head and laughed mockingly.

The girl was sure that he would only approach her if he needed anything. And it showed his personality. But not when he was with her. Why was he here, why was he dancing with her? It would only bring more danger to her!

He let her go at once, surprising her again. She was leaning on him, so when he let go, she stumbled and blinked.

“Go! Eat something and then rest. This trip has already been too exhausting for you.” she could not follow his train of thoughts. A second ago he was holding her to not let go and now he left without looking back as if her presence meant nothing to him.

Nora rubbed her hands lightly. With a cold and indifferent look on her face, she picked up some dishes from the snacks table and ate alone. The night was only getting younger when more and more people started to dance.

Kane walked to her table and sat beside Nora even when she gave him a look.

“I know that you do not like me.” He started boldly, “but I have a deal you would like.” Nora raised a brow. Taking a bite of her taco her smile grew looking at the confidence on his face.

“My father wanted me to pursue Pennelope Stone. She was painted as a kind girl with intelligence and a better future. But I do not like her after this incident. I want you to act as my girlfriend for the time being until I convince my father that both sisters do not fit in our family.” Nora looked amused more than offended. To think that he would take her for granted and believe that she would agree to it easily.

“I will pay you for it.” he clenched his hands around the mocktail he was holding. “I will not shortchange you.”

Nora finally laughed and shook her head. Her laughter was like spring. Kane felt dazed as he stared at her.

“There is some mistake.” she finally placed her fork down and leaned toward him. It would look like they were about to kiss. Despite knowing that the girl did not like her, he felt his heart beating faster. He held his breath and his whole body went stiff.

“I do a few tasks for money but only when they suit my integrity. Dating you is beneath my standard. I would not do it even if you pay me billions.” Before he knew it, the girl sat straight again and resumed her eating.

Kane blinked. Her words slowly sunk in and his face grew red and hot. He bit his lips and stared at her as if waiting for her to say it was a joke. But the girl did not pass her another glance as if he was not present there.

Kane had never felt this insulted in his life. He gritted his teeth and left her table. Nora sighed looking at the food. The night was more exhausting than she had thought. Finishing her meal, she returned to her room and decided to sleep early.

Tomorrow she will return to her lands.

Victor stared at his phone with anticipation. He had called Nora earlier but he could not hear her in the noise. She had told him that she would call him later. It was already midnight, yet she did not call him.

“If only I had been there for the final.” he could not help but complain. He spoke it loudly so that his father could hear him.

Mr Jhonson raised his brow at his son. “You know many have gone to see finals. It is not like I have missed anything urgent in the company. I am only a trainee there.”

Mr Johnson placed the file back on the table and stared at his lovestruck son.

“I have already told you that I do not like that girl. You can choose anyone but Nora.” His harsh tone made Victor flinch and irritated. He stood up and glared at his father.

“And I have told you, I have already chosen her. There would be no one but her.”
