Chapter 265: What She Wants!

“You have gone mad! Are you sure you want to reject the idea?” Jennifer could not believe her ears. She had already lowered her head since the team wanted Nora to work with them. Yet the girl was annoying. She dared to refuse them?!

“I never said that I wanted to be a researcher. I have other plans in my mind. But if I ever change my mind, I will contact the team as promised.” Nora replined in a casual tone without a hint of sincerity or so Jennifer felt as she looked at the girl dressed in gym clothes.

“I am not a biased woman. I have accepted all kinds of researchers so far. But Nora, you are not cut for it.” the woman admonished Nora harshly. “Only brain and knowledge is not enough when it comes to research. You should give your heart to it. But look at you, only bending yourself for someone money. Your talent is wasted on you. I do not understand why you wasted the first position.” anyone would have felt embarrassed when scolded in public.

Jennifer only glared at her as she pointed at her in the public. A few students and other staff stopped and stared at them. Everyone was coming into the lobby with their luggage. Today they will return to their country.

Jennifer has chosen this time intentionally instead of approaching Nora in private. She wanted to mock the girl and show her reality to the public.

As if Nora had read those thoughts, she laughed instead.

“Miss Jennifer, you are too arrogant. Just because someone plays good chess, he must join the national team or his talent is wasted? Everyone had dreams they wanted to pursue. What if I am good at so many things? I could not do all of them. Yet, I am ready to give it a chance after university. But you want me to leave my education for you. I do not understand if you want me to grow or hinder my progress?” Jennifer was stunned. Her face burnt red with embarrassment. But she had nothing to retort. Most of the time, a researcher was already an adult and graduated. Many times, they have already completed their post graduation and wrote a thesis in university.

Nora was too young. It was normal that she wanted to complete her studies and explore other careers before deciding. Instead of looking at her badly, many nodded at her choice and stared at Jennifer oddly.

Jennifer was a proud woman. She felt humiliated by their look,

“Good! Very good.” without having a retort, she left the lobby hastily.

Director Reid sighed. Though the girl had written a great research paper, her mind was sharp in economics too. If she works hard, she could earn a position in the central department as an economist and statistician.

He was about to offer that. But hearing her reply, he didn’t want to force her.

“Nora!” hearing him, she nodded. Instead of saying anything, he passed her the letter.

“I will not say anything. The choice is definitely yours.” Nora started the brochure of a degree in her hands and sighed.

If only she had the leisure time of enjoying a degree and her uncle and aunt let her be.

“I am grateful, director Reid. if you do not mind, can you promise me your help when needed.” the man frowned. A girl like Nora whom everyone was trying to poach sounded so helpless in that moment.

It was not like the girl he knew. He had seen how she was given laxatives twice and how she was kidnapped once yet she had given such a great performance. Her future was bright.

“Of course,” he took out his car and wrote a number on it. “This is my office card. And this is a personal number. Except my family, no one had it. You can call me anytime.” His warm smile felt like a family member. Nora held the card tightly and bowed her head.

He might have thought she would not need it but she knew well.

When the students boarded taxis waiting for their flights, Alric was already sitting inside Nora’s taxi. She paused for a second before sitting like nothing had happened.

Last night, Alric had indirectly proposed to her and then he disappeared as if nothing had happened. She had thought he had left already.

Alric nodded at her and she smiled back. Except that he did not start a conversation and Nora closed her eyes resting. When they reached the airport. Alric took their luggage and started toward the airport.

“I can take my luggage.” Nora followed him hastily. He looked like an obedient boyfriend pampering his wife. But she did not want to be in debt.

Alric stared at her with a cold look. For some reason, she felt that he was angry. But she had done nothing wrong. She squared her shoulders and faced him. There was something that made her stomach churn everytime he stared at her like that. As if she was bare to his eyes.

“I am not weak!” Alric sighed and let go of her bag. Nora held it like it weighed tons. The way he looked at her before leaving. She held her bag tightly. Suddenly she felt empty.

As if there was nothing to look forward to. She ignored that strange feeling and sat in the waiting room. A man brought a mug of coffee for her.

Her eyes sparkled looking at it. She really needed one.

“Thank you. How much is it?”

“Ma’am the coffee is paid. Have a good day.” Nora frowned. She stared at the cup as if it was burning her when she noticed Alric sitting on the opposite side with the same cup.

Gritting her teeth, she stood up and walked to him.

“Did you order this coffee for me?” Alric looked at her gloomy face. She looked more upset than before, yet he still nodded.

“You can pay me if you want to.”

“No.. no! Thank you.”
