Chapter 274: An Embarrassing Daughter

So it was not that she was cold! She was just an introvert who could not start the conversation!?

As Nora smiled and accepted the offer without putting any airs like Penny. They all realized that Nora had not spoken to them because they have not spoken to them.

The girl’s face brightened when she was offered the deal. Could it be that she has never been invited to the company before?

“Nora, would you like to visit the company and learn how it works?” asked another man and Nora’s eyes brightened further. She nodded eagerly as if she would follow the man then and there if he asked.

Many laughed looking at her expressions. Her face was still cold yet her eyes looked warm and invited.

“You look just like your mother and share her personality too.” The man could not help but sigh. “Everyone thinks that it was your father who made this company. But it was your mother’s brain and hard work that William was successful. Alysa was such a strong and wise woman. Your looks, your brain.. It felt like I had met her again after a decade.” the man sighed looking at Nora with longing.

Nora’s eyes flickered. A strange burning feeling covered her chest. She was not like her mother! Strong! She had taken two lives to fight her enemies! Yet she could not kill them then and there. She could not even collect enough proof to harm them in reality.

She was only trying to survive! Her breath went irregular. As if she was having an anxiety attack.

“Nora!” the man looked at her worriedly when Alric passed her a glass of water.

Nora stared at him and then at the glass as if she was in daze. She felt stupid. She was only putting on an act of a vulnerable girl but who would have thought that her emotions would mix!

Shaking her head slightly, she took the glass and sipped the water.

Her uncle’s face was ashen as if he had been accused of killing her parents. But there was a strange longing in his eyes too. As if he was missing them! She felt strange looking at him.

“Alysa was a remarkable woman. As her sister, Sophia had handled the company too. But she..” the man did not continue looking at Sophia with a disappointed gaze.

Sophia stiffened from the start to the end, she had bowed her head and did not meet their eyes anymore. Her hands were clenched into a tight fist. Her nails dug her palms to the level blood poured out but she did not care. Hatred, and the desire to kill had overwhelmed her.

“My mother had done her best to support dad. I know how many times she had read the files and entertained the guests in our house.” Penny felt how the old geezers were trying to humiliate her mother. She raised her voice lightly.

“When uncle and aunt left, my parents had come forward to take care of the company and Nora. if not for them.. Aah!”

“Shut up!” It was David who had slapped Penny, shocking her. His face was so red and cold as if he wanted to kill her.

She had never seen her father raging at her before. Penny was horrified. She shrunk at her seat, feeling aggrieved. It was because of Nora. She and her family always find a way to humiliate them!

“Do not speak nonsense if you do not know anything.” he glared at his daughter even when she looked hurt and vulnerable.

Looking at him, those members who wanted to defend William paused. If they still continued, it would look like they were bullying Penny. It was already too harsh that she was slapped in public.

“Alright, do not be so angry. What do the kids know?” Sohpia stood up and patted her husband’s shoulders in a soft voice. “It is my mistake, I will explain to her later.” she added sweetly, many nodded and finally David looked away.

“Come darling, let’s go to the restroom first.” She took Penny from there. Penny sniffled but followed her mother out of the room.

“Nora, you should go too.” David singlald at his niece who was looking conflicted. What if she asks something and comes to know things she should not.

Nora stared back at her uncle as if challenging him. Their eyes met for six long seconds before she nodded and stood up.

David only looked away when she left the room. For some reason, his back was covered in the cold sweat. She might look like her mother but the look in her eyes was the same as her father and his brother.

David was covered in sweat. His hands were shaking under the table.

“I apologize for the mistake my daughter made. I will teach her properly.” he bowed his head slightly in front of the members.

“It is alright. She must have seen you and Sophia working hard. Alas! If only she knew the truth.”

“Yes, you must tell them how lucky she was! Even Nora looked ignorant of the vast legacy her parents had left behind.” Alric stood up from his seat.

He had seen what he had come for. David felt much relaxed now that Alric had left. His leaving figure had taken the attention of the management too. They did not continue scolding David.

David signalled waiters to bring more drinks for everyone as she smoothly took the conversation to him and Tristan.

“About our partnership, I am hoping that our solar panel project will become successful. Since this is a completely new field for me, I hope you will guide me well, Tristan.” the man laughed and explained their new products.

Kane felt stifled too. He stood up and left the room under the watchful glare of his mother.

He looked around as if he was searching for something. He stopped a waiter and took out a note. The waiter nodded and pointed at the left.

Thanking he followed and reached the corner of the lobby only to see Nora and Alric standing there together. A wry and lost smile appeared on his lips.

“So, I was right.”
