Chapter 281: A Seed Of Suspicion

“I…” Alric frowned when he noticed hesitation on her face. His eyes darkened at once. “Are they threatening you?”

Sophia gasped at once. She covered her chest as if she was hurt.

“Did you hear her? She did not want to go with you. You can leave now, mister. If you lingered, her boyfriend would be angry.” Penny pointed at Alric. She could not accept that a fine man like him was interested in Nora.

Boys would like Nora, but not men. Not a successful man who had powers. So she rubbed Victor’s name intentionally.

Sohpia took the hint and smiled.

“Oh I heard! His name is Victor, right? I will invite him for dinner tonight. I want to see who stole my niece’s heart.” They both smiled brightly at Alric.

Alric’s hands tightened on the bags. “Nora..” he called her in a low and deep voice.

Nora trembled. She did not understand why she was feeling guilty. She had not hid about Victor from Alric. Alric and she were not dating either.

“Alric, I appreciate your kindness. But this is my home. Even if I go with you for now, I have to return it here the next day. I can not..” she did not continue as she lowered her eyes and stared at her feet.

He stared hard at her as if he wanted to pierce inside her soul and read her thoughts. In the end, he laughed mockingly before turning and leaving.

Nora’s feet trembled. How she wanted to chase him. But she stood there motionless. Sophia followed Alric at the door.

Penny folded her hands in front of her chest and watched Alric leaving.

“You made the right choice, Nora. Victor fits you. This man was too dangerous.” Nora did not reply. Something seems to be hurting her chest.

She knew Alric wanted to help. It was the third time she had refused his help in a rude way.

“Now that you have acted well, you should rest. I will ask the staff to make you special food.” smirking, Penny left the room.

She watched as her mother insulted Alric at the door with a bright smile. Closing the door shut, Sophia noticed Penny leaning on the opposite wall.

“How is Nora?”

“Heartbroken!” Penny smirked. “Looks like she had not realized yet that she was in love with this man.” Sophia snorted in response but her eyes were dark.

“Do not tell your father about it. You know how he could do anything when it comes to profit, right!” Penny sighed but she understood her mother well.

“Do not worry, I will make sure that Nora settles down with Victor. I will call him for dinner.”

Nora closed her eyes and leaned on the door. She took out her phone and called Alric. It kept ringing yet no one picked up.

Once, twice, thrice! She called him three times but no one picked it up even once. Nora bit her lips.

“I need to search my uncle’s study room. I have no choice.” She sent the message and deleted it after that to make sure that no one found it. Yet she stared at the phone for a long time. When the reply did not come, a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes.

But she closed her eyes and hid that feeling deep down. She emptied the bag and noticed he had chosen the dresses meticulously. She even found the pills inside the bag. Her grip tightened and a single tear fell on her cheeks.

She touched the tear with a frown.

“It must be sickness.” there was no way she was crying for no reason.

Taking the pills, she slept again. She would not waste her time on things she did not understand.

“Knock knock!”

“Nora wake up, your lover boy is here.” someone shouted from the door. Nora sat up with a start! Alric returned? But he was so angry when he left!

Wait! Nora paused. Alric was not her lover boy! What was she even thinking!? She let go of a deep breath and rubbed her spinning head.

“Who is it!” her voice was raspy and low due to her sleep.

Victor, who was standing behind Penny, frowned.

“It is me, Nora.” Penny smiled when she noticed displeasure on his face.

“Ah! She must be confused because Mr Spencer had visited her this morning. But I have clearly said “lover not friend.” Penny frowned and scratched her chin. “Ah! I do not know. She is throwing tantrums again. Go and handle your girlfriend.” shaking her head, as if she was frustrated with Nora’s actions, Penny left VIctor alone at the door.

“Nora, open the door. Will you?” Victor felt anger and confusion as he stood there alone. Should it not be the opposite?

Penny should be throwing tantrums and Nora should be suffering. But why was it opposite?

Nora took a deep breath. She felt a little better after taking rest and medicines. She rubbed her groggy eyes and opened the door for him.
