Chapter 283: Playing Nice

“You do not seem happy that I visited.” Victor smiled at Nora but his eyes were accusing her. She was so stiff during their meal. She hardly replies to them or smiles at them.

“I am just sick, I need some rest.”

“You seem fine to me except your mood of course.” Victor sighed and ran a hand in his hair, “Nora, if you are having second thoughts, you can tell me.” Nora frowned. She shook her head.

“I do not have time for that. You should not have time for that too, Victor. Entrance exams are close. We need to study hard and..”

“No, it is I who needs to study hard. You are perfect with your scores.” Victor hissed. “Yet I am not worried. I was waiting for your call all this time. Forget it! Who visited you in the morning?” Nora stared at his doubting eyes. She bit her lips. Knowing well that the answer would only irk him further.

“It was Mr Spencer!” he laughed instantly. A look of understanding filling his cold face.

“Now I get it!” he shook his head. “He is at least a decade and a year older than you. Do you like elderly people? Matured and rich! Huh? Is that why you do not love me?” Nora closed her eyes. She had expected it. But there was a feeling that she was indeed guilty this time.

“You can not talk to me like that, Victor. I have done nothing to be treated like this!” she hissed back. Before Victor could reply, Penny walked from inside. She had a small gift in her hands.

“Victor!” her cheeks flushed due to the run, “here, mother had sent this gift for you.” she looked at Nora and Victor and frowned. “Were you guys fighting?”

“That..”

“No, not at all. I was just scolding her to take more care of herself.” Penny stared at Victor for a few seconds before nodding. “Thank you for the gift. I should be leaving now. See you in the school in two days.” he smiled at Penny and kissed Nora’s cheeks before leaving. The kiss finished before it started. It was cold just like his mood.

Nora did not seem to care. She was lost in her thoughts when Penny sighed.

“Oh nora! You have rejected a man in the morning. And others seem to be rejecting you in the evening. What will happen to you?”

“Hmm, I do not know. My uncle will marry Mr Benard as he had decided in the past. No?” Penny was stunned. She was only mocking Nora. she was not expecting a reply after her submissive behavior the whole day.

She glared at Nora with red eyes.

“You! How dare you.” Penny hissed. Nora smirked and leaned closer.

“Why? Do you have a crush on him? But I thought you were dating Jimmy. With that video… aaah!”

“You.. let me go!” The scream should have come from Nora’s mouth when Penny raised her hand to slap Nora. But Nora held the hand tightly in the mid air as if she knew what was about to come.

She stared at Penny coldly, which scared the young girl. She struggled hard but she could not get rid of Nora’s grip.

“Let me go this instant.” she glared again. “Or I will..”

“You will go to your mother like a pathetic girl and complain to her? Sure, go ahead. But she is busy playing nice.” Nora yanked Penny’s hands.

Penny bit her lips. Her eyes were teary instantly. She wanted to curse but looking at Penny’s cold and domineering eyes, she did not have the guts to curse her.

“You just wait..” threatening her lightly, Penny ran inside the house.

Nora shook her head. She took a deep breath and sighed.

“Everything is a mess! I can only depend on money.” she whispered as she walked back to her room.

She noticed Sophia and Penny were not in the hall anymore. Returning to her room, she closed the door tightly.

“Hello!”

“Mam! We have been waiting for your call.” Blake sounded helpless at the other side.

Nora paused and tightened her grip on her phone.

“What happened!”

“It is as you have predicted. Alysa Ltd had called us for collaboration. But..”

“But..” her voice lowered and the man felt sweat covering his back.

“But we need to make a brand first. He said that our company did not have any name in the market. For a long term collaboration, we have to establish a name first. Only a month was given for it. And it had already been a week. We have called for an urgent meeting in the office. If you could..” The man wanted to invite her but he hesitated since not many knew that she was the true owner of the company now.

“Do not worry, it is much better than I thought. They have not rejected it instantly. It showed their willingness. As long as we can make the brand popular, we will secure a large contract.” listening to her relieved voice, the man bit his lips. He waved his hands and stood up from the meeting room. He walked to a desolate corner and sighed.

“Madam. It is not that simple. The news is spread to the public and now Blue Corn thinks that we have deceived them in the last collaboration. They are bent to take revenge. Would you please meet me tomorrow?” hearing her pleading voice, Nora regretted not leaving with Alric. Now her aunt would make sure that she could not go.

“I will come at 11am.” Finally the man sighed and his tensed shoulders relaxed.

“Very well. I will wait for you.” When the call was cut, Nora stared at the distance, lost in thoughts. She smiled as she stared at the moon covered in clouds.

For some reason, the worried face of Alric passed in front of her eyes.

“Love does not exist! Only benefit can. Then why are you so keen to save me!”
