“Nora refused him for Johnson’s son?” David frowned. Sophia helped him in taking off his jacket and smiled at him.

“I have told you she already had a boyfriend. She is madly in love with Victor. A man like Alric did not seem to catch his eyes. You are hoping for too much.” David’s frown grew deeper and he gritted his teeth.

“Could you even see the difference? Johnson’s gaming company had less worth than only my shares in our company. It would not bring us any benefit. But if she married Spencers..” his eyes gleamed with unhidden greed. Sophia clenched her jaws.

“But Spencer’s are too powerful. What if they dig the past?” she whispered slowly. “On the other hand, Johnson’s could not raise their head in front of us. She would behave docile and would never covet what did not belong to her anymore.” noticing the conflicted gaze of her husband, Sophia smiled.

She knew her husband’s weakness well. There was no way he could go against her. As long as he had secrets to hide from that girl.

“What if Ainston’s stood against it too. David, are you sure you want to take so much risk and bet all your cards on Nora? She is not a reliable girl.” David rubbed his temples.

“How is she behaving these days?” Sophia went silent until David turned to look at her. “Sophia!”

“She was fine with me. But she had harassed Peny.” looking at the scoff at the face of her husband, she gritted her teeth, “Penny will not lie to me, David. She must have been..”

“Sophia! We both know if Penny could lie or not. So save your energy! But keep an eye on her, I will contact Mr Spencer and see what their motives are!”

“David, about the company..”

“Give me a break, Sophia. I am tired.” David changed his clothes and left the house. Sophia gritted her teeth as she held his coat tightly in her hands.

Nora slowly retreated back to her room. Her footsteps faded in the darkness.

Penny paused when she noticed Nora taking the seat beside her on the dining table.

“You are going to have breakfast with us!” her voice was a mixture of rage and disbelief.

Nora only raised a brow with a smile as she pulled the seat and sat down.

“I am sorry, but I have an appointment and I am running late.” David paused and stared at her.

“Where are you going?”

“Uncle! I am going to meet my friend, Victor Jhonsons. He is in my class and..”

“Nora is dating Victor. Didn’t I tell you that he had visited us yesterday.” Sophia covered her husband’s hand with hers as she spoke warmly. “But Nora, he had just visited. Why do you need to meet him?” Nora looked troubled by the question.

She stared at her palm as she bit her lips.

“I.. we had an argument last night. I am going to give him a surprise.” Sophia’s smile widened hearing the reply as she stared at her frowning husband.

“Cough! I heard that Mr Spencer visited too. He was worried about you. Even if he was overboard, you should not refuse him. How about you apologize to him too after meeting your friend.” Nora furrowed her brows as she raised her head and stared at David questioningly.

“Aunt wanted me to refuse him. She even threatened me. And now you want me to go and apologize to him?” David paused. He titled his head and narrowed his gaze at Sophia.

Sophia straightened.

“He was forcing her to leave with him. As if this house belongs to..” Sophia paused and flinched as David slammed his fist on the table harshly.

“Nora, need i remind you that he was worried for you? You should go and apologize. Bring some flowers too. And do not return until he accepts your apology.” Nora picked up an apple and stood up.

“I.. I do not have money for that.” David’s gaze finally softened. As he saw Nora begging him for some change, he felt a strange feeling of accomplishment.

His chest swelled. He took out a hundred dollars from his pocket and passed it to her.

“There, have fun! You know, you can take the spare car from the garage. Do not take public transport.” Nora’s eyes widened with surprise and then she smiled brightly.

“Thank you, uncle. You are the best.” looking at the smirk on her father’s face, Penny lost her hunger.

Flames of jealousy and rage burnt her chest.

“Thank you! You are the best!” Penny spat the words harshly with a twisted face making David frown.

“Penny!”

“You only care about your own benefit. Have you ever cared about my father?” Penny stood up and slammed the table with both hands. “Nora had only threatened me last night and you are treating her like a princess already!” she could not believe it.

Nora had everything while she only had her family. Yet! Nora could not let go of that too! Her chest heaving.

David sneered!

“Ha! You are comparing yourself with Nora? Go and bring me an award then we’ll talk about it.” David wiped his face from the handkerchief and stood up. “Apart from that, you have a Bentley as your personal car while she is taking the spare one. And have you ever received a hundred dollars as pocket money when you go out with your friends?”

“…” Penny stared at her leaving father with stinging eyes. It was not about money or cars!

“Honey! It is of no use. Your father is only being nice to her because he had his own motives. Do not hurt yourself.” Sophia ate elegantly and wiped her face before smiling at her daughter. “How about we go to his company and bring snacks for his employees. I am sure he would feel better than me.”

“Mother, I do not..”

“Honey! I am sure you would love to meet everyone. Come, I will take your shopping after that!”
