Chapter 293: Drink A Little

Nora could see those eyes in the dark. She could recognize them even if they were in hell. Her breathing rose. It has been six months and they have only met twice. How naive of her to believe that she could avoid crossing paths with him in this life.

Seven more months! They got married seven months from now.

“Uncle, I am home.” She tried to play naive. She had to go and convince Penny to follow this man. Only then she could be saved.

“Finally! I needed you so much, Nora.” her uncle walked to her and held her hands.

“You know, Penny had promised me to take care of my guest. But she and Sophia left when they were told about the late night shoot. Now I lack a good hostess for my guests.” Nora stiffened. When she had heard glasses and the urgent voice of her uncle, she knew Benard was there.

But she had never expected Penny to not be in the house. She had even believed that it was a good opportunity. How naive of her!

“”A hostess! But I have never been one. I do not know..”

“Ah, Penny. You are thinking too much. All you need to do is to bring us some snacks and pour us drinks. It is simple, right?” he did not let go of her hand as he forced her to follow him.

He knew that his niece was a slimy fox. She could find a way to run away.

“You have met my friend and business partner, Mr Chris Benard. Right? You know he had helped me a lot in keeping the business afloat after the sudden death of your father. If not for him buying shares despite the losses in the company and paying the debts, the business would have sold a long time ago. He is your savior.” feeling the emotions in the voice of her uncle, Nora choked.

Even she would have believed it if she did not know the truth now. That was how they have painted Chris in the past life. Kind and gentleman! And Benard had maintained that image perfectly until they got married. That was when her hell started!

“We have met before in the club.” he held her hand and squeezed them while shaking. “I could never forget such a mesmerizing lady like you. Congratulations for winning the award.” that had shook hands but he did not let go of her hand until she pulled it with force.

His eyes darkened with the desire to conquer. Like she was nothing but a struggling prey and he was the predator. Nora flinched when she noticed the thrill of winning on his face.

“Yes, I apologize for being late. Victor did not let me go till late. Uncle, you did not meet him when he visited last time. I will invite him again when you have time.” she blushed softly. Though she did not clear her relationship with Victor. Even a blind could see she was madly in love.

Chris’s eyes narrowed. He did not take second hand products! David felt nervousness. He could let go of Nora if she could convince Spencers. But for Johnson, he was not going to waste his precious asset no matter what Sophia said.

She had to follow Chris if she could not get that Alric!

“Oh dear! Our glasses are empty already. Come fill them for us and then you can continue your story.” he held her by her arms and pulled her toward the bar counter creating some distance between her and Benard.

“Nora, do not be rude. A minor like you should not be flaunting your illicit affair. What image would there be in society? Don’t you dare to take that boy’s name again.” he warned her in a cold voice.

Nora wanted to laugh. A minor could not have a boyfriend. But she could pour drinks for two adults in the middle of the night.

Nora gritted her teeth. She did not want to challenge her drunk uncle, afraid that he would do something she would regret.

She could still feel his gaze on her back as if he was disrobing her with his eyes. How she thanked her uncle for holding her hands, afraid that she would fall.

Facing her uncle who had killed her in her past life was much easier than facing Benard. The man had killed her every day slowly with his abuses.

“There, I will have strong beer while Mr Benard enjoys this vintage wine.” He passed two bottles to her and looked at her meaningfully.

Nora poured the drink in two respective glasses when Chris returned to his seat. He smiled at her as he picked up his glass and took a sip.

Her uncle drank the whole glass in one gulp. He was already stumbling before, yet he was drinking too much.

“David, you should slow down.” Chris frowned and looked at his partner with a cold gaze.

David laughed instead.

“Why! I enjoy drinking in the absence of my wife. You know, Mr Benard. My niece is the most reliable person in this house just like her mother.” Nora felt goosebumps on her skin the way David was looking at her. There was no way a family looked at each other like that.

She had felt the same gaze in the car that night. She looked away. Filling her uncle’s glass, she took out her mobile phone. This could be an opportunity.

If David wanted to use this chance, he would make sure that Sophia and Penny did not return tonight. If he got drunk and she convinced Benard to leave, she would have the perfect chance to search his study.

“You should let him be, Mr Benard. My uncle loves drinking.” with a smile, she poured another drink and encouraged her uncle to drink.

The man laughed and drank more merrily, thinking that his plan was getting successful.

“If I get a drunk little girl, you must take care of our guest!”
