Chapter 305: A Fair Exchange
Nora blinked and finally returned to her senses. Shaking her head, she opened the door for him.
“At least you are smiling!” he sighed as he entered the car and sat on the passenger seat. She was?
Nora looked at herself in the mirror. She was surprised to see a relieved expression there. He stared at her and noticed the files pulling her shirt apart. Her torn dress and her disheveled face.
His face darkened instantly and the air in the car shifted.
“Who did it?” The voice was so cold that it left her shivering.
“Nora..” the voice was full of rage but for some reason, it relaxed her. Would Victor behave like that too? Would she be able to speak the truth to him?
“Nora!!” hearing his urgent voice, she shook her head.
“I did it to myself. I have my reasons.” his brows furrowed and he kept staring at her as if he did not believe her.
Nora sighed and told him everything. How she believed that voice recorder was important. How she wanted to steal those files. But maids would have never let her. The house was never completely empty. So she played the drama. How she mixed drugs she had stolen from her hospital when she had come to meet Max last time and went to the storage room with a staff.
She had taken it for Sohpia but mixed it in David’s drink and ran away.
“I am sorry, I could not accept your offer last time.” she sighed when the man did not stop staring at her. He looked like he wanted to kill someone.
“Because you have this plan in your mind?” as if a snowstorm had filled the room, she could feel the cold air emitting from his body.
“No. because I could not accept it.” a soft sigh escaped her lips. “I do not want to depend on you, Alric. Not when you offer help without anything in exchange. The time when you had a price for your help was much better.” she chuckled softly when the look in his eyes shifted.
“I know I sound like a hypocrite. Telling you that I do not want to take your help when I have just asked for it. But It just baffles me how you offer your help so easily. What if I became dependent on his sweet pity of yours!” Alric sighed. He looked out of the window.
“You are thinking way too much. I have told you I owe you for what you did for Alex.” cars kept coming and going as they sat there in silence for a whole minute. “You need a place to hide?”
“No! I will return to that house.” his grip on the door tightened. He was just about to open it and take her to his private room. But her words stopped him. He turned to look at her.
“Nora..”
“If I do not return, they will know I have taken the video recording. It is not time yet, they are still my guardians.” Alric gritted his teeth with anger she had never seen before on his face.
“I still need to destroy them.” looking at the hatred in her eyes and the desire to burn something so desperately, a strange sensation burnt him from inside.
Would he ever have the courage to burn his father in the fire like she had?
“What if I do that for you? Would it be enough for you to leave their house?” Nora blinked. Her brows furrowed and a frown settled on her face.
“This is my revenge. And I just need four more months! I am sure these files are enough to destroy my uncle completely. I know he had sold a few properties. I just need to make sure he sells a few more. So when I claimed my inheritance, he had no choice but to sell his wife and daughter to pay for the debts.” there was no pity in her voice as she said so. And it made him wonder what had she suffered to burn such hatred in her heart.
“What if they realized you did it?” Nora only smirked.
“Why do they need to realize it? When the time comes I will tell them myself. I want to see the hatred on their faces. I want them to struggle to kill me. Their desperate moves. Before they would realize, they would already be deep in the swamp. The more they struggle, the deeper they would fall inside it.” his heart clenched when he noticed no light in her eyes. They were as dark as night.
“But for that, I need your help. So tell me what you need in exchange?” her head turned to meet his eyes and he frowned.
“What do I need?” she nodded ignoring the confusion in his eyes and leaned closer.
“Yes, you must need something so that it could be a fair exchange. I can not owe you. Anyone but not you, because.. You do not need saving.” his brows furrowed listening to her. The look of desperation in her eyes paused him. But the question still lingered in his mind.
Could she save others then? She had taken help from Max so many times. And Alex.. and Victor.. The list never ends. But she was always so cautious when it came to him. As if she wanted to draw a line. Yet.. she was here when she needed help.
“Nora, you have saved me twice. And I will ask for your help when I need it. For now, it is not safe to be here. What if you are followed?” Nora stiffened and nodded.

He took off his coat and wrapped it around her shoulders. Nora held the corners tightly and wrapped her hands around it.
He opened the door for her and guided her to a private elevator. It stopped directly on the top floor.
He added a password and then his face was scanned. The door opened in a luxurious hall.
“You can pick any room. Make yourself comfortable. I will bring some water for you.”
