Chapter 338: Star Of The Auction
“Mom! They have replaced me.” Penny felt her heart crushing when she watched the advertisement online. It was the same script, the same dress, same bottles of beverages from Blue Corn Ltd. but the girl was not her. A new girl was showing her bare shoulders and smiling at the screen.
Sophia sighed. It had been two days since her confession was uploaded but hardly a few netizens had felt pity on Penny. They all only accused her for lying and cooking up stories now.
A few even claimed that they knew who the third wheel is so Penny need not act.
Though the comments were taken down instantly by the PR team appointed by David. Things are not improving at all.
“Penny, why don’t you go and study. Your exams are approaching.” Penny threw the cushion on the ground before returning to her room. Her sobs filled the hallways making Sophiya singh.
She called David again but he did not pick up the call. She had not seen him at all in the last two days. If not for the constant update from his secretary that he was working day and night, she would have believed that he ran away leaving them alone in this mess.
She was still curusing their luck when she received a message.
“I have organized seats in a charity auction. Go with Penny and donate something good. It might help in uplifting your images. Do not disappoint me again.” her grip tightened. Two days! He had not received her call even once and now this.
Sophia took a deep breath. She knows this period will pass and then they will teach Nora a lesson.
She went to her room and took out a jade bangle. It was a rare antique that even money can not buy these days. Hardening her chest, she packed it in a beautiful glass box.
It took her an hour to convince Penny to accompany her. They dressed in a simple dress and Penny specifically made her face look paler and gaunt.
“Mom, what if others humiliate us?” Sophia bit her lips. She had the same fear in her mind but if David had organized this invitation, he must have taken precautions. No?
“We will leave as soon as we donate it. There is no need to stay for a long time.” It was hard to convince Penny but when they entered the venue and noticed its grandiose, Penny let go of her fears.
She stood in front of the camera appearing meek and pale as she posed. Surprisingly, no one asked her about her recent news. They only said she still looked beautiful.
The venue was grand. The large auction stage was covered with bright lights while the whole hall was dimly lit. At the entrance, staff distributed the brochure containing the list of items to be auctioned. One could add their items then and there and the list would be updated instantly.
The decoration was full of rare exquisite flowers and dozens of waiters ran around to serve the guests.
Penny entered holding the hands of her mother. When her mother stood in the line, Penny went to the snacks table still unsure if she should approach the guests alone. Yet her eyes scanning the room looking for prominent guests and see if she knows someone there.
A person who would not judge her and introduce her to guests. She was still looking while taking a sip of her wine when her eyes fell on Jamie. Penny froze then and there. She turned ready to leave when a waiter came to her.
“Excuse me, Miss Stone. The organiser of the auction wants to meet you.” Penny paused. The organiser? She forgot to ask her mother who was the organiser. But why did he want to meet her?
“I am in a hurry. If it is just a pleasant exchange, I will do it with someone else’s time.” She brushed the waiter while looking for her mother. She was not on the registering table anymore.
“But, sir insisted that you come with me. Please, Miss.”Penny frowned. She did not understand why the man was bugging her. She turned but did not find Jamie there. He had not seen her yet. Perhaps, we could still leave after meeting this organiser. Who knew perhaps, she could throw him out instead of leaving.
Sorting out her thoughts, she smiled at the waiter magnanimously.
“Fine! I am in a hurry but I do not want to create trouble for you. Where is your organiser?” the man instantly looked relieved. He guided Penny to the backdoor of the stage.
“This place is so empty. Are you sure you are taking me to the right place?” Penny frowned as she did not notice anyone except some rare staff arranging the items or checking the stage.
“It is because this place is prohibited. All the rare and expensive items are kept here. It would be troublesome if anything is lost. But since the organiser had personally called for you..” the waiter did not continue, but Penny felt much better with the explanation. But who was the organiser? Was he someone she knew? Her admirer perhaps! Someone who wanted to support her in this difficult time?
The waiter paused in front of a large room and knocked twice before letting her enter. Penny adjusted her dress. Her hands felt sweaty as she entered the dimly lit room.
A figure was standing on the other side with a glass in his hands. But it was hard to see his face in the dark room.
“Excuse me, Could you please turn on the light first?” she took a step in unsure when she did not hear any reply, her heart beat rose. An ominous feeling filling her heart.
“Excuse me!”

“Why? I thought you like to do those kinds of things in the dark.”
“….” Penny knew this voice. The person wearing the suit was not a man but a woman.
“Lucy!” That was the moment when the room lit. she noticed Jamie was standing there too. “I.. I need to leave.”
