Chapter 349: A Birthday Gift

Penny flinched and took a step back. Sophia was the first to fall. Her eyes widened and her whole body shaking. The man’s glass had dripped on the ground due to her shock and the liquid had stained the ground.

Penny ran toward the door using the chaos as an excuse but she was stunned when she bumped into a hard wall. Raising her head, she was stunned to see four policemen standing at the door.

“We have been informed there is an assassin in this room.” Penny froze on the spit.

“I am only a server here. I do not know what you are talking about.” She frowned and took a step back but the men only held her tightly.

“There is a murder inside. Someone mixed poison in the drink.” the man shouted loudly alerting the police. They ran in.

Penny tried to run again but the man did not let her go. He held her tightly and pulled her with him.

“What happened here?” he scanned the room and found Sophia on the ground. Nora and Marion were standing there with a pale face.

“This girl!” Marion pointed at Penny the moment the waiter dragged her inside. “She served wine to us. This woman collapsed after drinking it.” Penny struggled harder. She was unable to breathe. Her whole body was shaking. Nora was still standing fine while her own mother died!

How did this happen? It was all Nora’s mistake yet she would be blamed if she was caught. She had to run away. She must run away.

“Let me go. I do not know what youre talking about?” Penny struggled harder. Her brain had stopped to work. Only the cold body of her mother and Nora’s cold face danced in front of her eyes. Her breathing was more and more rugged.

Her legs gave away yet she did not stop struggling.

“I..” Marion walked closer and pulled the mask off her face. He was stunned to see penny.

“This girl!” he looked at her dumbfounded. “Are you not her daughter?” he looked at Penny and then at the fallen woman.

He did not know them but recently Penny had been in the news too much. So he recognized her instantly. He knew Penny was Nora’s cousin. And Nora had called this woman as her aunt. He was speechless.

“Did you kill your own mother?” Nora only watched the scene as a spectator. She did not accuse Penny or say anything. Penny’s face was ashen. She looked no less than a ghost. Her skin was covered with love bites. She looked thinner, haggard, gaunt!

Her face did not match the girl from her memories at all. She could still remember the time when she was taking her last breath. Penny was standing there laughing.

“I did nothing. I swore I did nothing. I love my mother. I would never kill her.” Penny shook her head hard. Her face was full of tears. But the man only snickered.

“I knew you were up to no good. That wine was not for your mother. It was for us.” the man finally realized. His eyes widening and his hands reaching for his chest as if he could not bear the terror of it. In a horrified voice, he repeated, “the wine was for us!!!!!!”

The police finally understood what happened. They held Penny tightly in her arms.

“She wanted to kill her cousin. But she did not stop her mother from drinking the wine. She is a cold blooded murderer!” the man pointed at the penny. Penny’s heart raced. She felt like it might burst.

“I.. I did nothing. i .. she! She had killed my mother.” Penny struggled as she pointed at Nora. “how is it that she was still standing fine but my mother died. She wanted to kill us all so that she could claim our properties. She is a criminal.” but Penny’s words were nothing more than a crazy woman;s nonsense. They held her tightly and pulled her out of the room.

The ambulance was soon called. Other guests stood up and peeked out of their rooms after hearing the commotion.

The manager came running cursing his luck.

“What kind of hotel is this? Is there no security? A stranger is acting as the waiter and mixing poison in the drink. I have thought this place serves celebrities like us. But it is not safe at all.” he shouted and acted like a scared man.

The manager sweated instantly. He knew Marion was a rising star with a lot of followers. One word from him and millions of fans would come here to create trouble.

“Send medics for the woman. Though she had already died.” Nora reminds the manager. Hearing about murder, his eyes widened and he whispered a few words to the staff before running inside the room to check on Sophia.

“I want to see my mother too. Let me go.” Penny cried as if she had finally remembered that the woman had blood relation to her. Nora sneered. As she looked at Penny, she felt nothing but loathing.

“Sir!” Two more policemen came with the chef. “The staff reported that he had let this woman in and mixed something in the drinks. They did not understand it at that time. But after hearing the commotion, they have confessed everything.” the chef nodded looking at Penny.

Penny froze instantly. She had thought they were discreet about it. But now..

“No! This is all a lie. Nora is framing me. I didn’t do it. I want to go home. It is my birthday today. I still need to celebrate it. Nora had called to celebrate with us. She was going to give a present to my mother.” Penny struggled and spouted nonsense at that point.

Everyone stared at her as if she had lost her mind. Nora took a step closer. The policemen held Penny tightly, afraid that she would attack Nora.

“Indeed, I wished to give you this present. Happy birthday penny. Did you like my gift?”
