Chapter 359: It Was Not Me

“But.. but..!” Penny struggled but the policemen gripped her hand and dragged her out.

“Do you think you have the authority to argue? Have you forgotten the beating already?” Penny shrunk at once. Her face was ashen and deathly pale. Nora watched as the man dragged Penny out.

“Mam! The form..” the employee called her with an exhausted look. Nora nodded and took the form. They took a seat far away to fill the form.

“He is my man.” Alric whispered to her ears, making her laugh.

“I know. He slightly nodded at you when your eyes met. Thank you.” Alric smiled back. He took the form from her and filled it up.

“Alric! About the body…”

“I know! You do not need to worry. I will not do injustice to a dead person.” Nora sighed. She did not have the heart to treat Sophia’s body well. But at the same time she did not want to be like them.

It took them only an hour to complete all the formalities and retrieve the body. Joe personally came to collect it and complete all the needed rituals.

There were hardly seventy people who attended the funeral. They didn’t care who was getting buried. They were here for Alric!

When it was time to pray for the last time, no one offered the prayer or wished her goodbye.

Penny glared at Nora and Alric. Everyone was fawning around them, waiting for their chance to speak to the couple.

No one wanted to attach themself with a criminal or a woman filled with rumors. They treated Penny like a disease! The friends who used to flatter her all the time, looked at her with disgust. Employees that used to bow in front of her when she visited her father’s office failed to recognize her.

“Madam! You are too kind. You should have pushed them all. Yet your heart is so big that you did so much for them even when they tried to kill you. How could someone be like you!” many nodded. Those who used to insult Nora at every change they have gotten were following her and leaving no chance to flatter her.

As if their life revolves around her. Nora found Penny staring at her. She smirked and winked at Penny with a provoking look. Penny felt herself trembling.

How she wanted to kill Nora!

“Nora! You bitch.” Before she could take a step back, a stick was slammed near her feet. It only hit the empty ground yet it was enough to shake Penny with fear.

Penny took a step back instinctively and shrunk herself again. The man beside her looked at her with disgust.

“Do you think you are still some princess? You are a degraded criminal who holds no rights. Even lawyers had refused to take your case. You should concentrate on that or you will be buried next.” His words made Penny cry. Her sobs were heart wrenching but not a single person looked at her.

“Where is my father? Is there any news about him?” she asked in a desperate voice but the man just snickered.

“He is a coward who ran away just when he thought he was going to jail?” her eyes widened with disbelief. The man smirked looking at the stunned face. “Did you not hear?”

“Looks like the bitch did not know anything. Tell her!” a man standing behind the policemen stared at Penny with a blank look.

“Your father had taken loans here and there for his business. A few of them were in his name. He is hunted by many banks and loan sharks. All his shares had been sold to Chris Benaerd and he had refused to pay for your father. The moment we will find him, we will drag him to jail too. But trust me it is mercy on him. If not, he would be killed by those loan sharks. Why do you think he went missing then?” The man looked at Penny with disgust but Penny shook her head.

“That could not be true! That is not true. There was no way that my father would take loans. He had sufficient money. We are rich enough to buy a house or properties. We have hundreds of them.” she claimed while shaking her head. She could not move since her handcuffs were attached to the policemen.

“None of that belonged to your father, you fool! Everything belonged to that girl and she had already claimed it. You are nothing but a pauper leeching over her.” the man pointed at Nora with his chin.

Penny stared at Nora with disbelief. Her eyes burning with hatred.

“She! She had done it. She must have faked those papers. I want to file a case of fraud against her. I will not leave you.. You..” but the man pulled the handcuffs before Penny could take a step back.

Penny had used all her force to run away. When she was pulled, she lost her balance and fell on the ground.

Everyone turned to look at her with disgust.

“She is not our family. But she is your mother. Could not create a scene for her burial rites?” a woman spat as she looked at Penny with utter disbelief.

“Ha! Honey! You are expecting too much from a criminal. She had poisoned her mother to death. How could she feel grief on her death!?” whispers filled the room at once.

Penny’s heart reached her throat. Since the police had never cleared, no one knew about this incident. That was the only reason she had come here.

Now that everyone was looking at her, she felt like her soul was leaving her body.

“It was not me. No! Someone had framed me. It was Nora. yes! It was her. She did it. Alric is helping her in covering me.” but the more she spoke, the more they looked at her with disgust.

She fell on her knees and her head spinned as she met their disgustful eyes.

“It was not me!”
