Chapter 36: Let Me Down Slowly
“Leonora, you have been called to the principal’s office.” a peon working for the administration building called in a stern and detached voice when Nora was walking back to her room.
She softly smiled and nodded her head. Without a word, she followed the man who sighed. If only she knew why she was taken there! The girl was truly clueless. The man sighed in his heart as he knew the drama waiting for her.
But the moment he turned, Nora’s face was cold. The desire to take revenge was getting stronger day by day.
She was following the news closely. Her uncle had suffered a big loss in the company because Benard refused to help him financially. Not only that, all dirt had been coming forward for her aunt. From the time that she had tried to kill her niece in the hospital to how her niece was given poison by a stranger who posed at the nurse in the hospital. Though there was no name attached to it, people can assume well given the above information.
But her uncle was taking down every piece of news an hour or two after it was getting posted online. No big newspaper had still taken interest in that news.
“Slow.. but success.” she muttered to herself, surprising the peon as they stopped in front of the principal’s office.
“Little girl let me tell you, do not beg for forgiveness. Mr Kai is not fond of begging and does not believe in forgiving if you are not guilty. It would be better that you behave like a responsible person and shoulder your mistakes. Good luck.” The kind peon smiled at her because the girl did not look like a culprit.
He knew that looks could be deceiving but there was something in the girl which made him act on impulse. Otherwise he had always kept his silence and stayed away from the dramas happening in the office.
The girl blinked as if she was not expecting him to speak. And then to his surprise, she bowed her head.
“Thank you, I am grateful for your helpful advice.” with a smile so elegant, so calm that it could only belong to a matured person who had crossed thirties, she entered the room. Her back was straight like a soldier and her eyes were clear like a goddess.
“May I come in, sir.” her voice rang in the silent room.
In one look she had found her uncle and aunt sitting on the chair. Behind them were her new roommates standing and Miss Megan was standing behind the principal. They all were discussing something when she entered. So every eye was snapped to her.
Miss Megan’s eyes narrowed when she noticed the smile on Nora’s face. Her voice was full of indignation, “principal, i learnt from the records that she had been sent a warning letter because of her troublemaking actions. And then she had returned with a fake letter of scholarship in her hands.
She is so young yet so shameless and already possesses a criminal mind. We could not have someone like her in our school, or it would ruin our image.”
“Not only that, she would be a bad influence for everyone in the dormitory.” Then she looked at her uncle and aunt and sighed, “I know that you have taken care of her as your child. But your niece had not used this opportunity and only created troubles. I can not have this kind of girl living under my nose.” Nora looked at the warden with an amused expression on her face. Instead of feeling scared after listening to so many allegations. She had that spark in her eyes that scared others.
But no one was paying attention to her eyes except the principal. Rest, were busy in cooking a story to make sure that she was rusticated from both school and dormitory today.
The principal looked at her eyes with a raised brow and his lips curled into a smile yet at the same time it was not.
David, her uncle, finally sighed like an actor finally getting his chance to show his extraordinary acting skills,
“I can not believe that she could be this reckless. But I am sure that she is guilty about it. She would apologize to all of you for her mistakes.” he sounded worried, almost anxious. In her past life, Nora would have believed his act. And even though she was innocent, she would have bowed her head and started apologizing already to make sure that her uncle was not hurt.
She would not have noticed that she had taken all the blame in this way. When Nora thought about her past naive and meek self, her chest burnt and a strange rage started to grow inside.
“Are you going to stand here and do nothing? Apologize to everyone here! How can you do this? If you could not get good marks then you could not. Do you think lying would help? These kinds of lies get caught easily. Now look at what a mess it has created. I am very disappointed in you.” but Nora did not move. She stood there like a pine staring at the principal.
Her aunt bit her lips when she noticed she was not reacting normally again. Others might not believe it, but she had a feeling that she had changed completely. That night in the hospital she was so cold toward them and did not do what they wanted. Because of her they have faced so much trouble.
But how? She was living with them all this while. How did she change like this?
“Principal Kai, my niece lost her parents when she was young and I didn’t have the heart to punish a suffering girl. So no one had ever been disciplined. I will make sure that she does not repeat the same mistake. How about you give her another chance.” when he looked at the frowning warden, he added.
