Chapter 360: His Only Family

“Drag her out before she creates a scene.” Penny heard the distant voice as she lost her composure.

This was their house! Nora was a guest there. Yet she was dragged out from here like she was a stranger here. No! She could not let Nora win. She would give this house to her. Penny lunged on Nora but she was held behind by two strong hands.

“Oh dear! She did not stop her pitiful act even when everyone knew the truth.” Even disgusting words did not justify their feelings toward penny. Penny was nothing but a criminal with no emotions.

The burial rites ended just like that. The policemen came to meet Alric. Nora had just exchanged pleasantries with the last guest.

When she went inside Alric was discussing something with the policeman and another man.

“Nora..” Nora hesitated but she walked closer when they noticed her. The policemen observed her while the man went silent. Not sure how to continue.

“It is alright, you can speak.” The man was not sure but he knew better than to question Alric.

“We have looked around. David Stone is nowhere to be found. But I am sure he knew about his wife’s death. If he is still not out. Either he is dead or he is planning something very dangerous. I heard from a trustable source that someone had spent a hefty sum in Black Raven. It would be better if you stay alert for the time being.” even the policemen looked uneasy.

“It would be better that Miss Nora stay at home. I will inform you as soon as I find something.” Alric nodded and they both left.

“My uncle!?” Nora was not sure about her uncle’s connection.

“If he had the power to kill your father when he did not hold any power, he must have better connections now. You should be careful Nora. For now, do not go anywhere without me. Did you get it?” Nora nodded, surprising him. He had never expected Nora to be so complacent.

“Thank you!” he pulled Nora in his arms. “The case will start tomorrow. No lawyer had accepted her case. It would end easily. Do you want to attend it?” Nora nodded again. That would be the end of her story with her family.

“What about Benard! He did not come today? I thought he would help Penny and stop me from taking possession of this house.” she had thought he would. After all, he was dating penny. Even if it was for a short while and he had worked with Sophia and David for a long time. “Everything went so smoothly that it feels surreal. This house! This finally belongs to me.” She looked around the large hall where she had worked like a maid. Now she was the owner of this house.

House that belonged to her family! Her parents.

“You are only getting what is rightfully yours. No one could stop you from doing that.” he pulled her in his arms and hugged her tightly.

“And as far as it is about Chris Benard! He is suffering from an income tax raid. Poor soul will not be labeled to leave his house until it ends.” Alric smirked with a vicious look making her gasp.

“What did you..” she covered her mouth with her hands before a scream left her.

“You know, it would not be surprising if the police find proof of his connection with the underworld. Who knew they might even find a dead body buried in the ground when they look for money!??” Nora gulped as she looked at his confident face.

“Phew! Thank god!” Nora wiped the sweat off her face and smiled.

“Alric was afraid that she would feel he was too vicious. Looking at her relieved face, he was confused.

“Hmmm?”

“Nothing, I am just glad that I was never on your bad side. Who knows how you would have disposed of me.” Alric shook his head and pulled her closer.

“I may have a hand in sending the police. But the crimes were his to begin with. I am only getting justice for everyone. While you..” he leaned so that their faces were only an inch apart.

Nora could feel his warmth, his breath on her skin. It ticked her and made her squirm “you have committed only one crime.” she frowned. She had committed a man. But which one did he find?

“You have stolen my heart and did not return yours in exchange.” Nora blinked. Looking at his serious face, she did not know how to reply.

“You are too dramatic. Even Romeo and Juliet fades in front of you.” she pushed him an elbow and distanced herself.

“Are you denying it now?” he did not let her go. He pulled her by her waist and leaned on her shoulders. “Nora!” Nora felt a shiver run down her spine as he called her in a low and raspy voice. She took a step back.

“There are still many things to do tonight.” her eyes looked around. Her face was bloody red. She looked nervous as she played with her hands.

“Do not worry! I will still wait for two more months. But..” she noticed the change in air around them and frowned.

“But..”

“My mother is returning this week with Alex. I want you to meet her.”

“…” Nora knew that his father had called for her many times but he already refused and ignored his father. But he was requesting her to meet his mother.

His father was blood related to him but Ava was not his mother. Yet..

“Of course, it has been a long time since I met Alex. I want to see him too.” he looked relieved and tense at the same time. She wanted to ask what worried him but his reluctance told her he didn’t want to talk about it.

“I will free your schedule for that day. Finish all the tasks from the school this week too. We will have a lot to handle then.”
