Chapter 367: Man In Love

Nora watched as the man stood up. His tall figure overpowering her small frame at once. Despite his foul mood, he did not leave her alone. But his eyes showed resentment when he looked at her.

Nora sucked in a deep breath and stood up. As they walked this time, they did not hold each other like before.

The security following them from behind was confused. Emma frowned harder. She had seen how Alric was full of joy and beaming before. In her five years of following him, she had never seen him this happy before.

Nora had that rare carefree smile on her face too. Most of the time, she looked like she had the burden of the whole world on her thin shoulders.

Emma was feeling happy for them. But they have already fought? When the couple returned with a cold mood. The security could only take their own car and follow them.

Alric did not speak a word further. He felt he was too harsh earlier. But for some reason, he could not apologize to her. He did not want to discuss their marriage again? He did not want to give her a chance to reject him!

Nora watched him from the side. Feeling his bad mood, she did not speak either. She knew that Alric was different from Benard and Victor. He would not cheat on her and make her life miserable. But it was hard to let go of her fears.

She had endured a lifetime of pain and suffering. Men are flicker minded. He never liked Amyra before. Why did he like her? What if he did not like her in the future? After all, she was not like those young and cheerful girls despite her young age.

She was cold and calculating. Both lost in their own thoughts, felt that the other person was being too cold. The earlier mood from the long walk disappeared just like that.

When the car was stopped in front of the hospital, Nora opened the door and walked out.

Alric watched her leaving without waiting for him. His chest started to hurt and he paused.

If he followed her, there might be a chance that they would fight. He could feel his anger rising. So instead of returning, he went to his office.

He opened the files and started working. But it was hard to concentrate. No matter how many times he read, the words were not sinking. It had been an hour and he was still on the same page.

Gritting his teeth, he closed the file with some force.

The file shook and fell on the table. Alric rubbed his temples. He knew that he could not concentrate. He took out a cigarette from the drawers.

It was rare for him to smoke. But he felt the need for it. He stood up and walked to the floor to ceiling window. The hospital was a tall building. His office was on the second highest floor. One could see half a city from there. Locking at the flickering lights around him, he felt lost in his thoughts.

“Knock! Knock!” Nora had just come out of her room after taking a long shower. She had heard the knocking before but she had expected Alric to open the door since she was not around.

She frowned and stared at his closed door. Did he already sleep? She did not see him coming. After entering the house, she went straight to her room and took a bath.

The cold water had calmed her anxiety a lot. But after looking through the closed bedroom door, her heart sank again.

“Knock”

Giving a last glance to his door, Nora adjusted her emotions and went to open the door. She had expected a staff to deliver the papers to Alric since they come occasionally. But she was surprised to see Emma standing there.

“Why are you here?” she frowned. “I thought you left after the meeting.” Since she had spent the whole day with Alric and did not see Emma, she had believed that he had given her off.

Emma rolled her eyes and closed the door behind her. Since Alric was not there, she was not behaving like an employee but a friend.

“I have never known that you are a dumb girl.” She eyes Nora and shakes her head. “I must have been blinded by your skills to deal with a foolish girl like penny.”

Nora frowned and followed Emma. but it was refreshing to see her not doing “yes Ma’am!” anymore.

Emma sat on the sofa and patted the space beside her. Nora watched her bemused.

“Would you like something to drink?” Nora walked to the kitchen instead and opened the fridge. She took out a carton of milk.

But Emma pounced behind her like a cat. Nora took a step back instinctively. Emma bent and licked her lips. She took the milk from her hands and placed it back. Then she took out two cans of beer from the fridge and closed it with her waist.

“I am not drinking it.” Nora looked at the beer and then at Emma in confusion. But Emma did not hear her protest.

She pulled Nora back to the seat.

“Right now, you only have me as long as you do not want to return to the criminal cell and choose Penny instead.” Emma chuckled softly, “come here and sit. We have a long conversation to hold and the alcohol will help.”

Nora started at the closed door again. What if Alric walks out to drink water or something and finds them drinking in the hall. They returned so abruptly and she had told him that she was exhausted.

Emma watched her staring at the closed door. Her thoughts had never been this easy to read. Emma clicked her tongue shaking her head at the lost case.

“Why are you staring at his door when he is not even home?” Nora’s head snapped back to Emma. but they have just returned together.

“Tsk! You didn’t even notice that he did not follow you.”
