“Where did he go then?” Nora did not look at the door anymore. She sat beside Emma and took a beer from her.

“He went to his office. Working on some files I guess.” Nora nodded. Alric has been accompanying her the whole day. He must have a lot of work to handle.

“Tsk! Do you think he went there because he had pending work?” when Nora frowned and looked at Emma in confusion. EMma wanted to beat Nora.

“You are normally so smart and calculating. You have guessed Penny’s plan so easily and set traps for her. Where did your brain go now?” Emma tsked again looking at Nora.

Nora looked away. She opened the beer can and drank all of it in one gulp.

“Cough! Cough.” Nora coughed hard. She had neve drank like that in her life. Emma sighed and leaned to rub her back but Nora pulled the can of beer from Emma instead.

“He is overreacting!” she whispered slowly. In the dark room, her voice felt like she was sharing a rare secret. “I am not even eighteen and he wants to marry. Of course I would be nervous and hesitant. Does he need to behave like I have cheated on him?”

‘….” boss proposed to her? Emma had thought she could easily give Nora advice so their relationship flowed smoothly. But who would have thought her boss would want to tie the knot?

“I will find a way to explain to him later. You do not need to worry about it.” Emma sighed and ran a hand in her short hair. She stood up and brought four more cans of beer.

Placing them on the table, She picked one and took a sip from it. She leaned on the sofa and stared at the ceiling.

She looked lost. Nora raised a brow.

“Why does it look like you are the one suffering heartbreak?” Emma sighed louder as if she was in pain.

“You do not understand a thing.” Emma shook her head lightly. She took another sip. “Boss never wanted to marry any girl. I have seen madam requesting him and arranging blind dates for him. A girl named Amyra had followed him for half a decade but he never even looked at her clearly.

If the girl did not trouble him he would not even look back at her but he has proposed to you. And yet you rejected no matter what the reason was! It must have hurt his ego. And I do not care about it. But have you ever thought why the boss wanted to marry you?” Emma raised a brow and looked at Nora curiously. Her face flushed for some reason.

‘Perhaps he loves her!’ strange thoughts flashed in Nora’s mind and she flushed. How good could it be that they love each other!? But she shook her head and pushed that thought away.

Love was rare and it was not for someone like them. It is just an emotion that comes with comfort. As soon as you face real troubles, love vanishes like smoke. Leaving the head and ashes behind. She would not bet on such emotion.

“Perhaps I suited his taste. My family would never try to control him or benefit from him like Amyra. I do not pose any threat to him and since he is helping me in setting up my companies, I would always be obedient to him. So if he wants to have afros in the future, he can control me easily. While it would be hard to convince those rich heiresses who had their own power and not depending on him.

I think he is in love with you.” Nora laughed but when she noticed Emma was serious and staring at her in confusion.

“You couldn’t be serious. He can not love me.” Nora shook her head with pity but Emma only tilted her head.

“Why not?” as she thought about Alric’s actions, she was sure that he loved her. “Why could he not love you, Nora? Think about it! He took you on a date. He did everything a man would do for his lover?”

Feeling Emma’s intent gaze, Nora was dumbfounded. She wanted to retort to Emma but as she rewinded the time since she had met Alric in her mind, she was at a loss of words.

Alric had gone beyond his limits to help her often. It could not be limited to their contract.
