Chapter 37: Not Their Daughter

“Of course I would take her back home. She would only attend day classes like other students. I will not dare to ask you to let her stay in the dormitory and attend extra classes too.”

He waited for the principal to say something but the man did not reply. He kept staring at Nora, increasing their uneasiness. Why? Why was he staring at her like that?

Her aunt started, “principal Kai, our kids are studying here from the start. If not for her, then for our sake, I beg of you to let her finish her studies here. I know that she has made a huge mistake but I will guide her and she will not create any trouble in her last year.”

They both were begging to gain forgiveness for her when she did not speak. It looked like they were anxious about her studies on the surface, but the truth was they were pinning the blame on her.

“Nora, are you going to stand there like a strait? I know that you are scared now. But you have to come forward and take responsibility for your actions now. Go and beg the principal to let you stay in the school now.”

Nora did not reply, she looked at the dormitory teacher as she smiled at Penny and Penny slightly nodded her head and her eyes narrowed at that.

She had always wondered how Penny was able to possess a good dormitory room despite her barely passable record qualifying for the dorm. Yet she was living with the best students. So she had someone to back her up.

“Leonora Stone, do you want to say something or shall we end this case now?”

Only then did Nora smile. She had a gentle smile in her eyes that she did not lose even for a second despite being facing serious allegations,

“I will speak of course if you give me a chance to explain myself. But if everyone is waiting for me to apologize and beg for forgiveness then I can not do so.” she explained in a calm voice only earning a glare from everyone.

Miss Megan looked indignant., “How dare you still refuse this?” with rage, she opened the file in her hands and threw the certificate she had shown to her while entering the dormitory.

“Did you not give me this last night? How could you get that score when you have not even sat the exam?” she spoke in a harsh and condescending tone.

“Let’s not start all of this again.” her aunt started and then covered her face. Her muffled sob filled the room. “Just accept it Nora. or you want to humiliate us till the end.”

Principal Kai stared at the young girl who was being pressured and insulted again and again. Yet she had such a good composure.

Though he looked stern, his eyes encouraged her to say, “Did you sit in the exam or did you miss Leonora?”

His voice was so strong and dominative that it would force the students to bow directly. He had been at his seat for a long time to demand obedience.

The other students felt scared when he finally spoke but Nora only nodded slowly.

“Yes, I have given the exam. My uncle and aunt had some confusion about it.”

“……..” silence fell in the room at once with her reply.

“You mean to say that you have given the exam and got these marks with your hard work?”

“Yes, principal Kai. I have given the exam and this record is authenticated. If not, you can send an email or call the authorities to confirm it.”

Her aunt’s face turned gloomy. She pursed her lips and said, “that is not possible. I am sure Nora was at home that day. She was under the weather and I cooked porridge and chicken soup for her. She was on her bed all the time. But forget about giving the exam, she had not filled out the form in the first place.”

Principal kai turned to look at her aunt with a soft but condescending smile on his face.

“Your niece is just seventeen. How many connections she could have that she had not only made such a perfect replica of an official record but she is even confident that i could confirm with the authorities. Do you think she had the ability to convince every single person that works for taking a scholarship exam in our country? Do you think government offices are that gullible?”

With a grave expression on his face, Principal Kai interrupted Sohpia’s words and turned to look at David. He said in a deep voice, “The school will punish students who have made mistakes. But we will never treat our students unjustly, especially when they are facing such a serious scandal. After all, our image is at stake too.”

The room went gravely silent. Everyone could feel a hint of fear in their hearts. They all looked at Nora as if they wanted her to disappear that instant. Everyone except the principal.

“So, Leonora. Are you sure that I can confirm with any person in the office there? Let me tell you I have some friends working there and if you are found lying. You will not only be rusticated from here but you will not get admission in any other school. Your future would be done for.” His words had a strong power. Even if the person is right, they might feel doubt in themselves under such pressure.

She noticed how her uncle and aunt’s lips had a winning smile and she laughed scornfully in her heart. If they think they could control her again and destroy her life, then it was only good for her.

But Nora just smiled and nodded her head again,

“Thank you for giving me an opportunity to prove my innocence, principal Kai. I will be in your care then. I will prove that my uncle and aunt had given me a good upbringing.”
