Chapter 373: Fell In A Trap

“Stand up and defend me!” Penny hissed with venom in her voice. “I have paid you so much for it. If you did not do it..:”

The defence lawyer titled his head to glance at her. “You are wrong. You have paid me to sit beside you and represent you. It was written clearly in the contract that I may or may not win the case.” there was a vicious smirk on his face that left Penny petrified.

“You mean.. You mean!” the lawyer finally stood up under her shocked gaze. All their eyes fell on him.

Such a case! It had so many proofs and witnesses. The girl was not clever enough to hide her footprints at all. How would the defence lawyer present this case? Everyone wanted to see it.

The jury also waited patiently for the man to speak up.

“My lord, as the prosecutor said, no words could prove that Pennelope Stone is innocent. I have heard all the witnesses and saw the recording. I have nothing to say in return. I will accept every decision taken by the lord.”

“!!!!!!!” gasps and murmurs filled the room. Veterans knew what happened there. Everyone stared at Penny and then at Nora. even a fool could understand what happened there.

Penny gritted her teeth and hatred filled her eyes. She kicked the seat with force and stood up.

“How could you do this to me! I have paid you so much. My lord! He is not working for me but Nora. she had planned all this. You.. you!” words failed her! How she wanted to kill this man in an instant. “You are playing with my future. This is a crime. My lord! I need another lawyer.” her shouts filled the whole room.

Many stared at her with a frown, some bold ones even jeered at her. Penny was trembling with rage. But if she gave up now, she would end up in jail.

The defence lawyer looked at her with pity. “Miss Pennelope! I truly want to defend you. But I have no proof or witness. You even showed your face on the screen. The camera had its recording. I could not lie like you mother that you have a doppelganger!” the man sighed as if he did not have words.

But it only infuriated Penny.

“I was there but I did not mix poison in the drink. It was Nora. she had mixed the poison in the drink herself to frame me.” she pointed at Nora with trembling hands and accused her.

Nora watched with a lazy smile on her face. How she had been afraid of Penny once! She had felt that she was too weak, miniscule to stand in front of penny. In her past life, she was the one suffering. But she neither had courage nor means to improve her life.

But now that she looks at struggling Penny, she wonders how weak her past self was? Nora’s eyes had a hint of mockery that burnt Penny’s chest.

“It’s all because of you!” she screamed in a cold voice! “I will not let you go.” She lunged on Nora. But before she could even touch Nora, she was held by many men.

They all dragged her back to her seat. Penny started struggling. She did not have an image to maintain.

Even if she behaved kindly, they would still give her the death sentence of life imprisonment. Would it not be better if she could kill Nora and drag her in that hell too.

With that thought, she struggled again but she was no match to the strong build police team. One was enough to hold her down and now, a whole team was holding her.

She had no way to run away.

“Pennelope Stone! You have misbehaved in the court and insulted it. I did not allow you to continue sitting here. And you lose the chance to say your last words.” the judge announced with a displeased voice. “Pennelope Stone had killed her own mother and attempted to kill two more people. She had even attacked her cousin in broad daylight in front of so many people. So, I announced lifetime imprisonment without parole to her. Her punishment starts today. And she must be taken there within two hours. The court is adjourned.” The man stared at Penny with a cold look before ending the case by signing the papers.

Everyone stood up out of respect. Penny struggled and screamed but no one paid any more attention to her. With David gone, she was nothing but an orphan with no use.

Many came forward to congratulate nora. Penny watched with hatred in her eyes how Nora was flattered by those men. How Nora was basking in the limelight while she was suffering.

Nora tilted her head and their eyes met. Penny noticed mockery in Nora’s eyes. But she could not move an inch as she was dragged out of the court.

Everything was over for her! Her life ends here! She had lost everything! Her heart felt heavy. Would it not be better to die than to spend life in jail? Where did things go wrong? Ethan had told her that everything was planned well. She did not need to worry, he would tamper the cameras. And the mask would protect her!

What happened then!? From the start to the end, not even once did she feel remorse for killing her mother.

As she walked out, she noticed the silhouette she was waiting for.

“Ethan!” her eyes widened. Ethan? Did he come to protect her? As if a drowning person had finally found his hope, Penny wanted to run to him.

But the officers did not let her.

“Let me go! Ethan is the criminal. He had done all this. Look he had come to confess everything. I am not at fault.” Her words were nothing but crazy blabbering for the officers. Their faces only hardened.

Penny pointed at Ethan again thinking they didn’t notice him. But what happened after that stunned her eyes.
