Chapter 375: A Different Taste

Alric placed his hand on her back as he guided inside the door. His face was gloomy and Nora could notice his reluctance in taking her in.

But as soon as they entered, the staff stood up horrified. They greeted them all at once. He nodded toward the fawning staff but did not pause to greet them back or share pleasantries. But none of them seem to mind it. As if they all were habitual of his coldness.

“Spencer junior!”

“It had been a long time sir.” Many men followed him. But he did not spare a glance to them.

He took her to an elevator with a reserved sign. He pressed thirty six buttons on it and the door closed on their faces leaving them dumbfounded. The elevator slowly started to rise.

Nora finally turned to look at him.

“Does that office belong to your father?” his eyes finally found her and he sighed.

“I know that you do not want to be here but endure for a bit. He could be stubborn when he wants.” Nora looked at his worried face and leaned on him.

“Oh! But I never said that I do not want to be here. If I want to be with you, it is only normal that I meet your family.” she tried to be sweet but his face only darkened hearing her. A frosty layer covered his features. As if the world had owned him two thousand bucks.

When the elevator stopped, his whole body was stiff. He was moving in an auto mode without any expressions on his face.

Three secretaries were standing near the elevator waiting for them. The moment the door opened, they bowed their heads and welcomed him.

“Sir is waiting for both of you. Please head in.” The women looked at Nora curiously but their thoughts were not betrayed on their faces.

Alric held Nora’s hand tightly as he took her inside the room. A man was sitting in the large office.

It was a minimalistic design but each piece was screaming of luxury. Nora was sure everything here belonged to an auction. Things that could not be brought even if someone had money.

A large ground to ceiling window covered the background. One could see the whole city from there.

The man finally raised his head from the documents and looked at Alric. His gaze stopped at Nora.

“Are you planning to stand there all the time?” His voice was full of authority and disdain. Alric’s grip on Nora’s hands tightened.

But under the cold gaze of his father, he moved closer and pulled the chair for Nora before sitting on the other himself.

His father did not speak. He kept staring at Nora and Alric for a long minute.

“I have heard a lot about you, Nora.” There was no smile on his face, nor a warm look in his eyes. Nora was not sure if it was a compliment or sarcasm. It was hard for her to read this man.

“You are soon going to be part of our family. As family we should help each other.” he continued ignoring the dark face of Alric. “Truth to be told, I have always thought that Alric would choose Amyra. After all, she is smart, mature and her family supports our businessline.” His voice was grave but it did not look like he was upset about it. It was as if he was talking about mundane things like dinner.

“But who would have thought my son had a different taste?” finally a smile on the man;s face. But it did not look friendly at all.

Alric looked away as if he did not recognize this man.

‘Since you are not interested in listening. How about you wait outside? I have something to discuss with her.” the man frowned at Alric. But Alric’s eyes only narrowed and turned sharp as if he was guarding his belongings.

“Tsk! Must you look at me like that?” the man frowned, “have i not helped you enough in keeping her safe. How could you doubt my actions? ” The man’s face slowly turned colder.

The air around them is getting thinner. Nora noticed the tension in the air and smiled.

“Sir! Alric is just overprotective for me. There is nothing I will not share with him later. So you do not need to worry about his presence.” She did not feel pressured at all.

The smile on her face told them they were worrying for nothing. She was at ease here.

“And same goes with you. You do need to be so tense. Even if you are outside, I know you will protect me. And I will share everything he asks me to.” she wrapped her tiny hand on Alric’s warm hands squeezing it a bit. Something told her that she was not called here to be humiliated or threatened.

Alric sighed. He took a deep breath, stood up and glared at his father. His father raised a brow amused. How such a few words from this girl were able to force this mountain of a man outside the office.

After glaring at his father for a long time, Alric finally turned and left the office.

“You are better than I thought.” The man finally chuckled but there was no warmth on his face. “It was a gamble when I supported you for Alric, but it all seems to be worth it.” He slapped the table and closed the document.

“But you must have known Alric is not my legitimate son. Do you think you can get power from the Spencer group of industries just because you have chosen him?” Nora raised a brow. Her lips curled into an amused smile, her eyes mocking the man slightly.

“I have three companies to my name and Alric has a chain of hospitals. Do we really need to share your industries?” the man only shrugged. Not at all minding her mocking glare.

“Do not be in a hurry to judge. Have you not needed my help already in getting rid of your cousin.”
