Chapter 38: Such A Caring Family

“Impossible,” Penny muttered at once. “My friends had given that exam and I remember her resting at home that day.” She did not specify that she had asked Nora to complete her assignments that day. But she was not mistaken, Nora was at home that morning.

Sophia looked at Nora and then at her daughter. A devious glint crossed her eyes.

“No, if Nora is sure then I am going to support her. As her family it is our responsibility that we believe in her first.” She gave a meaningful look to her daughter but Penny only felt indignant.

It must be related to Benard. Why was her mother supporting Nora so much when she could win against Benard too?

Nora smiled, her eyes looked extraordinarily bright, and her facial features seemed elegant and glamorous. “Then how much time do you think it would take principal sir? I am sure you and everyone else must be busy giving it a whole day. How about we return here when the reports come?”

Oh! She was trying to buy time!

Penny couldn’t stand her anymore. She sneered. Abruptly, she rushed towards Nora and screamed, “damn it. I can even tell you were in my room writing math assignments that day. Why do we need time to prove your lies? You are a wicked girl. Tell me did you steal from my house, you leech to make this fake document. You..”

“Slap!” a penny was cut in between. Her eyes widened and her face flew back to her hands. She looked at her mother with a horrified gaze full of disbelief.

The sound of the hard slap still rang in her ears.

“Did you… just slap me because of her?” her voice quivered and her eyes filled with tears at once. She wanted to shout and burn this whole room. But she knew that her friends were watching. Now the whole school would know. “How could you?”

Sophia closed her eyes. How could she give birth to such a foolish daughter. This was Penny’s habit. As soon as she was upset, she would forget to conceal her hatred against Nora.

“Because you were scolding your elder sister. No matter whether she had done it or not. You are not going to misbehave with your elder sister. Did you get it or you need another slap to learn this lesson?” her voice was so sharp and cold that Penny shivered and bit her lips.

She was not going to accept this so easily. She ran out of the room with sobs echoing into the room.

Sophia closed her eyes with guilt and rage. No matter how foolish her daughter was! She was still her precious girl. She could not bear to hurt Penny and now she had left crying. And all this was because of Nora.

Her eyes narrowed with hatred and the desire to kill. But for now, she could only endure since they were in public. She swallowed her rage but promised herself that she would teach this wicked girl a lesson soon.

“Principal Kai. I apologize for the attitude of my daughter. I will teach her too. I am ashamed that both my daughters are making a scene in your office.” She looked like a helpless mother who could not handle her daughter now that they were growing old.

The old man sighed. He did not want to be part of a family drama. Yet.. he waved his hands at Nora, indicating her to come closer and offered her a seat.

“I will call them this instant. It would take some formality to us since taking out the papers from the entrance exam is not an easy thing. It will take three days to a week. Till then, you can stay in the dorms but I do not want a single complaint about you.

If you were found to make another mistake, I will tell you whether you have passed that exam or not. Did you get it?” Nora’s hands tightened around the chair.

Now that he had announced it like that. All of them would do anything to create trouble for her. But at least, she would still have a chance to revive herself. She nodded with confidence emitting from her eyes.

David glared at Nora in silence. With a smile on his face, he cut off their conversation.

“Of course, my niece will not create any trouble for you.” he patted Nora, picturing himself as a loving guardian. Sohpia came closer too and smiled sweetly at Nora.

As if she was their daughter. The image felt nauseating to Nora. how she would have traded everything she had to get it in the past. But now that she knew their true faces, all she felt was disgust.

“Then i will call you again when the reports come. Till then, you all can leave.” he dismissed all of them at once. Nora stood up and followed her uncle and aunt.

The moment the door was closed and the warden and other students left, Sophia held Nora’s hands tightly and dug her nails deep inside her arm.

“What kind of nonsense you are creating now. Huh? Let me tell you Nora. if you think that the doctor and the school would save you from us, then you are a foolish girl who has not learnt her lesson. If you do not return home, I will make sure you suffer a lot.” she warned.

Her uncle looked at her with disappointed eyes, “I have been such a caring person for you, Nora. I have even praised you so much in front of Benard. Do you not want to live a happy life? I thought you always wanted a family. What has changed now?” His voice showed concern that made her sick to her stomach. She did not fake care at this moment, but showed disgust for the man she had once thought was her father.

“Because now I want freedom from both of you. As long as you let me go. I will forget whatever had happened between us. What do you say about it uncle?”
