‘All that was just in a day?’ Nora’s heart sank. And the biggest horror was… it was not even serious damage in his eyes but a warning for her to not spout nonsense again.

“Nora?” Are you there?” the man asked, frowning. But soon a smirk formed on his lips.

“Mr Benard! Thank you for your reminder. I appreciate it.” She was about to cut the call but his voice came from the other side.

“Nora! You are with his son. Yet he can not help you. You have chosen the wrong person.” His voice contained pity, a soothing tone that would make one feel vulnerable.

She had felt it before. His charms, his actions.

“If it had been me, I would have fought the world for you. But never let you suffer.” Nora’s grip tightened. She could smell victory in his voice. Her lips curled into a sneer.

“Why would you do that? You do not even know me!” the man on the other side chuckled as if he expected her defiance.

“Who said so, Nora? Your uncle had offered me your hand a long ago. Since then I have been keeping tabs on you. I knew about you and Victor so I decided to watch from the sidelines first.

But you left him when you found Alric. If you are looking for a stronger shoulder. You should choose wisely. How about we meet first and discuss it face to face. I will bring you a meeting gift too. Something you would never be able to reject.” his teasing voice was full of temptation.

Nora closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“I will not meet you.” hearing the determination in her voice, the call went silent on the other side for a while.

“Nora! Being conceited will not bring you any profit.” She knew that! But what change would her life bring if she repeated the same mistakes and bowed her head.

“Being with you brings me any profit then?” With her voice getting low, Chris felt that she was finally being humble. His eyes glinted and he laughed.

“Of course, I will take good care of you.”

“Just like how you have taken care of your previous wives.” her voice went sharp making the other side silent.

“Do not think that the world is foolish, Mr Benard! I would rather say poor than dying in my own blood. If you call me again, I will complain to the police.” She cut the call without waiting for his reply. And threw the phone on the table.

She picked up the pen and played with it in her hands. Her eyes were lost in the distance.

There must be something I knew about him. Something that only I know as his wife! His wife! His wives! Her eyes widened and a bright smirk appeared on her lips.

“Emma!” she screamed the name out loud.

Emma, who was drinking coffee sitting outside, choked on it. She looked at the mess she had made and sighed.

“What.. what is it!?” She ran outside and looked around but there was no emergency or threat.

“How much risk can you take for me?” Emma tilted her head but noticing the intensity of her eyes, her own expression turned gloomy.

“I am stronger than you think.” although Emma said so, she did not look that confident anymore.

“You will need help. But if you complete this task for me…” she did not complete it but her grave voice told her about the seriousness of this matter.

Emma looked at the note in confusion.

“Go there and search this place privately. Bring me anything you find.” Nora stood up and took out her personal card. “You can spend as much as you want.”

Emma still did not understand why the fuss was about. But she left nodding her head.

Nora sighed. She dialled Alric’s number. The call rang for a long time and suddenly she remembered the time when she used to call Victor. Before the gloomy thoughts could take her over, the call was picked up.

The man was panting on the other side as if he had run a marathon to reach the phone.

“Hello!”

“Where are you?” her voice softened without realizing.

“Why? Are you missing me?” he teased, knowing well that she would refuse. But to his shock.

“Yes, can we meet?” the man went silent.

“Nora, did my father..”

“I suddenly want to eat seafood. Would it be possible?” Alric sighed. He looked around the office. He had come to meet his father again knowing well what the man could do.

Usually, his father would call him inside instantly. But today.. He did not respond even when hours had passed.

He was not a fool to not understand the reason.

“Alright! I will be there in half an hour.” he whispered, ” I will protect you nora.” for some reason it felt important that she knew about it.

“I know. I believe you.” Alric closed his eyes as if trying to listen to her unheard words too. Nora did not cut the call and Alric did not press her for speaking again.

The silence brought a strange harmony between the couple. Alric closed his eyes.

“Alric” Nora opened her eyes when she heard the woman from the other side. “Come with me.”

Alric frowned. The secretary had never called him by his name before.

“Nora!” The call was cut! He frowned looking at the phone and then at the smiling woman. When he stood up, the women only felt bolder and moved closer.

“The call had already been cut, bitch! Are you planning to undress yourself to create more misunderstandings between me and her or are you so desperate for attention?” the woman froze at her spot.

She had seen Alric often. The man was indifferent but always respected everyone around her. This was the first time she had seen him like this! Looking at his cold and disgust filled eyes, she felt naked despite the clothes she was wearing.
