Chapter 41: Winning Over

Provocation from a little girl. Putting her uniform onto her bunk bed against the door, Nora turned around and looked at Linda with a smile on her face.

“If you think that I have connections to convince the principal, the autothiry related with the most prestigious exam just because I am friends with Alex, then why don’t you try being friends with him too?” Nora laughed and shook her head as if she felt like Linda was a fool to even think so.

“…” Linda bit her lips. Even she felt that it was ludicrous. But she could not find any other way to justify Nora was here.

Lisa took out her book instead. She had marked a few questions that she was not able to sleep. She had gone to the teacher to ask them. But she was told that it was fine if she did not know them. The problems were of university level and would not be asked this year. They were only there to make them aware about the complexities of numericals.

She looked at Nora while holding that book. When Linda could not win her and failed, she stood up with the book in her hands.

“Nora, like others, I do not doubt that you have cheated.” she announced, earning a look of shock from others. “Not because I have trust in you. But I believe that authorities could not be swayed this easily. Now that we are roommates, we should not fight each other but try to be friends.” Nora’s brows furrowed.

She was not a fool to believe this young girl’s announcement but she still nodded. They were not her targets, only Penny is. But if she could win their friendship then Penny would never accept it and come charging to her.

Sorting her thoughts in her mind, Nora nodded ignoring the book in Lisa’s hands even though she knew what that young girl wanted to do.

It was good to be young again with the mind of an adult. It was so easy to read all of them. Did she used to wear her thoughts and emotions on her face too?

“Yes, let’s be friends with each other and help each other in the future.” Her eyes were bright when she was looking at Lisa. That puts others at ease.

“The girl could not help but stare at her smile as if she was in a trance before shaking her head.

“I have been solving numericals earlier. But there are a few I can not solve. Since you have excelled on such a prestigious exam, can you help me a bit with these problems?” She extended the book toward Nora where she had marked all the numbericals she could not solve.

There were so many of them. Each of them was more difficult than the other. If Nora could solve them, Lisa did not care if she had cleared that exam or not. She would accept that Nora deserved to be here.

A smirk formed on her lips when Nora stared at the book but took no effort to hold it or take it in her hands.

“Why, you do not want to help me?” she teased with a mocking look on her face. Her soft laughter brightened the face of the other two members who finally understood the reason for the change in Lisa’s behavior.

“Yes, go ahead, Nora. my sister should help everyone in the dorm.” penny encouraged from the sidelines.

Nora sighed as if she was facing troubles because of young kids. Her eyes swept past the watch on the wall.

“I have an appointment with the doctor and I still need to take permission from Miss Megan and I am short of time.” she confessed only for them to look at her with a scornful gaze.

“Ha! Is that your excuse this time?” Penny was the first to shout. She could not wait to tear Nora apart and get rid of her.

“Oh come on, I am sure you can solve at least a few of them before leaving.” Lisa pressed. She would not let this opportunity go no matter what.

Nora sighed and nodded.

“Alright, since you are so adamant and my sister had spoken in your support I would help you.” With that, she took the book, surprising all of them.

They were waiting for her to make another lame excuse and then break down with anxiety. But Lisa still laughed with disdain.

“What a fine actress she is. I am sure she would even act to solve the numerical problem with all seriousness.” she muttered in her heart but her eyes looked cold.

Nora walked to the small study table in the corner and opened her notebook. When Lisa did not follow, she frowned.

“It is already nine, I need to leave soon. Why are you dilly dallying?” The girl felt embarrassed at once and increased her speed. In just a few seconds, she was standing behind Nora.

Nora had already noted important points of numericals.

“This question is a bit twisted. It is hard to make equations directly. But if you pay a little attention, and apply the speed’s formula to make a quadratic equation first and then solve it.. See if you can continue from here?” Nora explained in a patient voice. Her eyes did not leave the notebook. Every letter written by her shone like a pearl.

The writing was attractive but at the same time, her method of explaining was better than the teacher. Even if Lisa wanted to refuse that she did not understand it, she could not.

She understood everything easily. When she did not reply, Nora raised her head to look at her and smiled,

“I am sure you can, Lisa. After all, I have always admired you for your quick reception and understanding skills. But if you are still having difficulty then how about I explain all of them to you tomorrow since it is the weekend and we will have no classes?”
