“Two days!” Nora was stunned. She pulled herself away from Alric to meet his bloodshot eyes. His hair was messy and his clothes had hard water stains.

She remembered he had worn this suit two days ago. Did it mean he was sitting here for two days waiting for her to wake up without even changing his clothes and taking a bath!

For some reason, Nora wrinkled her nose before feeling touched.

“Eww! Did you even not take a bath!?” looking at her ugly face, Alric blinked and then laughed.

He looked helpless by her complaints. But for some reason, his chest felt much lighter. No other words would have made him feel less emotional.

“I could not leave you alone, you ingrate!” he flicked her forehead with an animated frown. “I was afraid that you would feel alone if you woke up suddenly,” he sighed. As if he was taking a long breath after a long time. The air felt oddly comforting in his lungs.

“What happened? Why and how did you get the shock?” he asked after a pause. Nora watched his worried face and sighed.

“Do you remember Natalie? The girl I planted in his house?” Alric nodded. He had faked the papers and made sure that the girl would enter the bar easily. From loan sharks to selling her, his men had staged the whole drama.

And since then a man was keeping an eye on Chris’s house. He follows her wherever she goes out. He collected the garbage she threw around. Because she writes messages on each garbage. Last time, she had left two pen drives in the tissues in the cafe.

And he provided her with five new pen drives beneath the cakes served to her. It has been two months since they have been in contact like this. The girl had brought enough intel for them.

It had helped them in dealing with Chris. Now the man was hardly surviving. No matter how much he struggled, his future is dark and bleak.

“She is pregnant!” Alric watched Nora intently. As if trying to understand her point.

“Nora! The girl had suffered enough torment in that house. She is forced to eat from the ground. Wear a leash and be treated like an animal. She was flogged and welted and forced to do chores enough for two people alone. Her life is hell there. Being pregnant is nothing worse!

We can always rescue her and abort the child. I can send the medicine instantly and it would look like a natural miscarriage.” He looked at her with confusion as if he did not understand why her pregnancy became such a big shock that Nora felt unconscious for days.

She had not such a strong reaction when she came to know about the cruelty Chris had performed on that young girl.

At that time, she was oddly calmer as if she had known all this in advance.

The moment Nora heard his reply, she went silent. Alric did not know anything about Ivy! He did not know her daughter, how could he feel the pain of losing her?

But could it be that her daughter had returned through Nat! The date was dolly familiar.

“Can you tell me what the gender of the child is?” hearing the eagerness in her voice, Alric went silent.

He stared at her as if she had grown another head.

“Nora! A month old still did not have any gender. You have to wait a bit more. But.. should we not help nat in aborting the child?” Nora froze at her place.

She had never thought that her child would be aborted. She held the duvet tightly and shook her head with force.

“Why do you want to abort the child? Have you asked Nat? It is her first child!” her voice turned defensive, making Alric frown.

He was sure Nora was hiding something. He stared at her intently only to see accusation in her eyes. She was complaining as if he was her enemy.

“Nora! The child is… it has nothing to do with you!” He did not know if it was his illusion but he felt she was protective of the child as if it belonged to her. She was instinctively covering her womb too.

Nora blinked and stared at her flat stomach. Yes! Even if Nat gave birth to the child, it would be Nar’s child, not hers! But what if it was her Ivy?

Nora could not let go of that thought. She held Alric’s arms tightly as if she was struggling.

“Alric, help me in protecting the child. I want that child.” Alric frowned deeper. She was spouting nonsense now.

“Nora, I am completely healthy and young. If you want a child. We can have as many as you want after our marriage.” Why did you want someone else’s child? He stared at her with many questions in her eyes.

Nora lowered her head and closed her eyes. Even if she explained to him that the child belonged to her in the past, would he believe her? He would send her to the psychiatric department for treatment.

“Because we owe that child. He had come to this life for our greed. If not for us..” Alric went silent.

“Would it not be better to not give birth then?” he asked softly as he pulled her in his arms.

“Just because the child is still in the womb, is it okay to kill her? A life is a life, Alric. Either it is out or not. It already had a life. I do not want an innocent to suffer, Alric. Please help me just this once and I promise that I will never ask for anything ever. Please, I beg you.” he could hear her frantic voice as if she was afraid that he would kill that child.

Alric closed his eyes, hoping the storm in his chest would calm down. He wanted to kill someone, to burn the world. He knew there was another reason for her desperation. A reason for her hatred toward Chris!

“Alright, I will bring that child for you.”
