Chapter 423: Trapped
Nat laid on the bed and stared at the ceiling. Could there be people watching her here? She had checked there were no cameras in the building. And there were only two maids. They were not closer.

Still to be sure, she opened the door and walked to the corridor with an empty glass. If anyone found her, she had an excuse ready. But as she walked toward the kitchen where she had been earlier, she did not find anyone.

The lights were dim and she was sure everyone had gone to sleep already. She filled the glass in the kitchen and sat down. She took a long time to finish the glass, as if waiting for someone to come. When no one came, she returned to her room. More slowly this time.

But still no one came, she locked the door after closing it and then pulled it a few times to make sure it was closed.

Nat opened the closet and checked it then she went to the washroom. It took an hour to be sure that there were no hidden cameras or mike that recorded her voice or actions.

“How could that be?” it was hard to believe but she only shrugged. This was her chance. She opened the small bag she had brought and took out her mobile for the first time.

She did not dare to call but left many messages for Nora at once.

“He is making a new company using your idea!”

“He is investing in a software company too.”

“This is the list of investors he had convinced.”

“He is selling his entertainment company instead.”

“He had called these officials. He had bribed them.”

She sent a long list of people who supported Benard. But even after sending all this information, she did not feel better.

“His mother is a fool. We could use her too. She lives at..” she left the address and then stared around her again.

The silence felt strange, new as if she had never experienced it before. She searched a few things on the internet about parenting.

She read about morning sickness and how a child could be. She did not realize when her hand reached for her belly to stroke it. She was only reading when she finally received a message.

She had thought Nora would ask about her wellbeing. About the company or their next plan.

But it was nothing she had ever thought.

There were only six words but it left her frozen for a long time.

“Have you decided about your pregnancy?” She read those words many times in her mind but she still had no answer.

As if the woman had sensed the meaning of her silence, she sent another message.

“I will take care of the baby until you are ready. I can keep her as mine for forever. But if you want to give up on it, hurry or it would be harmful for you.” Nat closed her eyes. She understood that Nora wanted revenge and could do anything for it.

But she did not understand why Norah wanted the child. Should she not hate it since it belongs to Chris? She could understand her dilemma since the child belonged to her too but it had nothing to do with Nora!

Nat closed her eyes since she could not make any meaning of it. It would be better that she left the decision on her fate.

Nora stared at the screen for a long time. She had waited and waited for the reply after she received a message from nat. She knew that she should have asked for her wellbeing first. But what if she did not have much time to reply.

It was rare for her to contact her. She wanted to know about the child first. These days, she could not sleep. She could not think about anything except the child. She knew Alric was worried about her.

How he pauses and waits for her to eat before he leaves and how he has shifted her things into the house they have brought from Chris.

He had appointed two maids to make sure she was never alone. Emma had returned too to make sure she was protected.

Alric calls her often to just talk about random things. She was lying to him by using her exams as an excuse.

He knew it was not true but she was glad that he did not probe much. Her birthday came and went just like that.

She knew he wanted to celebrate it luxuriously. Even Ava had hinted many times to go somewhere or throw a party. They did not even arrange a housewarming party. Ava was asking again and again if everything was alright. The woman was more perceptive than Nora had thought.

She had visited a few times to convince Nora but returned empty handed. Nora felt bad for all of them. But she wouldn’t let go of those thoughts. These days, her nightmares are increasing. Whenever she closes her eyes, she sees her daughter crawling on the ground with blood staining on the floor.

Her soft whispers, sobs, gut wrenching cries and pleading for help leave Nora with pain she had never felt before. The screams keep echoing in the air with no other sound left behind.

She wanted to hold that image but she knew she could not. She wanted to get rid of those dreams but at the same time she wished she did not wake up so that she would feel them for a long time. She was losing her mind and she was not in the condition to entertain guests.

So, she refused all the parties. She even refused when Alric hugged her and then she took her things and shifted in a separate room. She knew that she should explain to him. But what should she say? That she was mourning for her daughter which never existed! She stared at the emptiness of the room. It was already late at night yet she felt time was not moving at all.
