“I want you to tell me if you face any problem.” He took her hand in his and held it tightly as if he was afraid that she would disappear if he would let her go.

Nora gulped down the lump formed on her chest.

“What if i say that this is not my first life. I have lived this life before. I have been trapped by my family and forced to marry Chris Benard and then he has made my life hell. I had run away from him only to find out that I was pregnant. He used the child against me. Whenever I play any tricks, he would hurt the child.” her voice hitched, her heart raced, so many emotions she had buried deep down surfaced in her eyes.

It was getting hard to breathe yet she wanted to pour every single grievance out. Her voice rose again and again and she shivered.

“I started studying his businesses. Keep an eye on the investors and slowly, I started to steal some money. I have stolen a lot of secrets of his business and started to sell them. I have sold a few to you too. But then you killed your wife and your whole family, so I was afraid of meeting you again.

I have enough power to destroy Benard but before I could do that, he realized what I had done. And they… they took my daughter. They forced me to sign papers. There was a will but I do not know about others. Once I signed the papers, they killed me. But my daughter… I don’t know what happened to her. I.. i… I failed as a mother. But when I woke up, I was here again, much younger when it all started and I decided to take revenge against them. I want to destroy them.

Her eyes were full of tears as if a dam had been broken. Her voice was choking with emotions and her shoulders trembled as she spoke. Yet… Alric could not understand any of this.

He heard her but could not make sense of any words. She was married? She had a daughter but she was killed by her husband!? And he killed his family? As in his wife and kids!? But he would never kill his kids. Even if he killed his wife. He could imagine himself killing Amyra. But.. this made no sense. He would not marry Amyra in the first place.

And it was not about him. It was about her. She was struggling and he did not know how to help her. But looking at her ashen face and tears, he felt pain in his chest as if someone was piercing needles into his chest.

He pulled her from her seat and settled her on his lap. Then he stroked her back soothingly.

She was still speaking but it was more of a babble than proper words. She was whispering them to herself. Looking at her hysterical actions, it was hard to believe it was nora.

For him, Nora had always been cold and detached. Even when he was kissing her, he could feel she was thinking from her brain not heart.

It was more of a pleasure of the body, or the need of a strong man around her. She did not love him as he loved her. But this..? Was it a dream that had haunted her for a long time or her family had done something to her brain.

But it was clear that she believed this nonsense. His shirt was soaked by her tears and her inaudible voice shook his heart. Even if all this was her illusion, she was strongly trapped by it.

She was suffering so much. It broke his heart to feel her pain. He held her tightly in his arms.

“But you are safe now, you have fought all this like a brave girl and I am here with you. I will protect you. I will never let you be hurt. I will punish everything who had hurt you.” he stroked her hair and rubbed her back with another hand as he whispered assuring words to her.

Nora paused and he wanted to pull her to see her face. To understand why she believed in all this. But when their eyes met, his heart skipped a beat and a feeling of guilt started to fill every cell of his body.

Her eyes were still bloodshot and teary but the way she looked at them. As if she knew he did not believe a word she said. Her lips slightly curled into a smile that looked worse than her tears.

“Nora..” the word came out more breath than sound, “i will protect you with my life. I would never let any harm come to you. If you want to destroy Benard, do it. Even if you want to burn this whole world, I will help you with it.” he promised her softly as he held her shoulders.

Nora’s lips titled and she stared at him with a strange look that sucked all his breath and left his lungs empty and struggling.

“I know that you protect me, ALric. I have never doubted your love.” she nodded softly, but what did it scared him.

“But… you would never believe my nonsense. Right?” words were stolen from his mouth as she watched him with that knowing look.

He wanted to defend himself but he did not know how. He pulled her into his embrace and surprisingly, she let him.

“I never doubt you, Nora. they have hurt you enough and they deserve a revenge.”
