Return Of The Heiress For Revenge - Chapter 428
Chapter 428: My Past Life
“Thank you.” it broke his heart when the voice came so detached. All the emotions she was going through were there, yet he was not part of them anymore.
Her lowered head where he could not see her eyes anymore felt like they were in two different worlds. She had built a wall around herself where she was not trusted anymore. A pang of guilt filled him and he tried to hold her. He had expected a struggle. But surprisingly, she let him.
She raised her head and smiled at him. But with those teary eyes, he did not want to see her smile. He wanted her to trust him and lean on him when needed.
“Nora, I trust you.” The words felt urgent and she raised her head to meet his eyes. She smiled softly and shook her head.
“You do not need to force yourself or lie. I know my story did not make any sense.” she watched their entwined hands with marvel as if she was watching them for the first time.
“I am already blessed that you are willing to help me unconditionally even when you do not believe my story. It is more than enough for me.” she smiled and then leaned to kiss him.
Alric welcomed her lips. Like a starving man had finally received a dew of honey, he sucked on her lips desperately. The kiss was full of hunger. Nora wrapped her arms around his waist when he pulled her closer and opened her mouth.
He trembled as he kissed her, his hands cradling her face with a desperation that spoke of sleepless nights and aching loneliness. His lips moved over hers with slow, aching hunger, drinking her in like she was the only thing keeping him alive.
He sucked on her lips as if memorizing their softness, his breath shaky, uneven. When she parted her mouth, he groaned, deep and raw, and deepened the kiss, his tongue brushing against hers in a slow, searching dance. There was no rush—only the silent plea to feel, to heal, to hold on.
Nora wrapped her arms around his waist, grounding him as he shuddered against her. Her fingers clung to the fabric of his shirt, as if afraid he might vanish if she let go. He kissed her harder, with more urgency, but there was no aggression—only the overwhelming need to be close, to pour everything he couldn’t say into the press of his lips.
He lingered, his mouth trailing soft, desperate kisses along her lips, returning to them again and again, never pulling away for too long, as if afraid this moment would end. And when their foreheads finally rested together, breathless and trembling, the pain that had once felt unbearable faded—if only for a moment.
She could still hear the voice in the back of her mind where the little child was calling for her, blaming her for not being there anymore. Nora could not ignore that desperate voice. Her hold on his waist tightened. Their hot uneven breaths slowly faded and he touched her cheeks again with such tenderness that it felt too foreign from her dreams but at the same time assuming that she was never going to live in that hell again.
“Benard would not survive more than three days. The moment his new company would be dragged into the court for plagiarism and fraud, his future would end.” he promised her in solemn voice.
“And Natalie could stay with us. We will adopt her child and I will provide for a better life. Nora, even though it is hard to believe your words, I will give my all to take away the pain you are bearing.” his fingers slowly caressed her cheeks but it was not for lust.
It was for giving her warmth, assuring her that she was not facing this torment alone. Nora closed her eyes and leaned to that touch. The touch that promises her for her future.
“Mmmm, I know.” she hugged him back and a sigh escaped his lips. How much had he missed this. How much had he missed her! He knew that she was still not there, but at least, she had trusted him enough to share her pain. And what had he done? He had refused to trust her. The guilt started to gnaw at his chest yet his mind refused to believe it.
“When you sold me his secrets, was I his competitor?” Alric did not remember Chris dipping his hand into hotels or hospitals. While Alric only works in these two lines.
Nora raised her head and looked into his eyes as if searching for something. Alric frowned looking at her disappointed gaze. She shook her head and smiled.
“I know it is hard to believe but you will soon start working in the snacks business too, like our company. And you had competed with my company. I have sold secrets of my own company so that you can destroy it. And with that, my uncle and Benard would suffer.” Alric’s frown deepened. He had never seen himself working in a snacks company.
Though he does like the healthy snacks her company provides, he never sees himself making them.
Yet, she was sure he had worked there. As if reading his doubts, she added,
“You have named your company Chiara!” Alric frowned deeper. The name did not ring the bell. Looking at his gaze, Nora’s eyes dimmed. She had hoped that he would remember his unfulfilled dream and link that to her story.
But his expressions told her that he had never intended to start that company. Why did he do it in the past? They have crossed their path a few times because of Max. but it was rare so she did not know much about his personal life to share that. Except that he had killed his own family and confessed his crimes.
“Did i..” he looked at her with hesitation, “did i know you well in my past life?”
