Chapter 44: Scared For Her Life

Alex stared at the hands extended toward him with an indescribable look. He remembered the words she had said. They were the exact words he had told his brother. But there was no way that Alric would tell a lackey about them. And the way her eyes burnt, it did not look like she was lying.

“Your family wanted to kill you, why?” he took his hands to her surprise. She blinked and then her lips curled into a smirk as she pulled him up.

“Because they do not want the fact out that all the property belongs to my father. The shares, the house, everything.” while she had lived all her life as a pauper, they have enjoyed the richness of what her parents left for her.

“I am not a philanthropist. I will only pay you if you will be useful to me. And so far, you have not proved it.”

Alex stopped his bike at the outer of the city. He had driven it so fast that when he stopped it, Nora did not move for a second. She looked like she was in a trance when he turned to look at her.

“What are you waiting for? Hurry up and follow me.” Nora nodded and shook her head. She looked so lost. But slowly her eyes started to clear. She heard a lot of cheering and noticed cars coming from the other side. She instinctively took many steps back as a car came toward the entry point with the speed of lightning.

Alex nodded at many of them and in front of her eyes, he entered in a red sports car and opened the door on the other side. When he did not move from her position, he gritted her teeth,

“Why are you still standing there? You are my navigator for the night.”

He glared at her when she did not move for a second. She blinked twice and walked in. “Because of you I could not bring any of my friends. Now you want to stand here like a fool? Hurry up and fasten your seatbelt. If you’re afraid, close your eyes. Frail women like you are so troublesome.”

Nora hurriedly closed her eyes and held the seat tightly.

‘Bang!’ A gunshot was heard.

A second later, the red Ferrari and the silver JTR sped off in the blink of an eye! But slowly as the car started to speed, she opened her eyes. The past memories started to flash in her heart.

The speed of the car rolled her life in front of her.

But slowly she realized, it was not her past.

this was… basically amateurs racing against each other. There weren’t any exciting highlights. She knew from the start that Alex was going to win.

Slowly the other car started to fall behind. But it was not related to skills. Mostly, it was related to the modifications of the car.

As the car stopped, the girls came cheering to him. They fall on him as if he was a hero. The other person came with a bowed face.

“You have cheated. I can not believe that you won just like that.” he barked with anger. The young man clenched his fists to suppress his anger.

But Alex did not look at him. From the start to the end, he was only leaning on his car with a bored look on his face. No one knew what exactly he was thinking.

“Alex.. are you not going to punish this brat! He had called us a weasel.” a young man with spikes like hair and brown face spat with arrogant eyes. Alex still did not move. Slowly everyone noticed that he was looking at the girl sleeping inside the car.

She was covered with cold sweat and looked rather scared. Occasionally her breath hiccuped and she dug her nails in her arms.

“Who is she?” the young man asked others with his eyes but everyone shrugged. It was the first time Alex was paying attention to a girl, not the other way around.

“I have work to do. You can handle him.” Without waiting for the reply, Alex drew the car away with Nora in the car.

He did not return to the dormitory at once. But he drove to the hospital. Occasionally his eyes search for her. And narrowed when he noticed the cold sweat on her face.

“Fuck! Was that even scary?” and here he thought that she was a bold girl. He had stopped the car but he did not move for a long time. He took out the cigarette and took a whiff of it.

“Do not kill her.” she whispered and his hands paused. He took out his phone and dialed a number. Soon two nurses came running toward the car.

When Nora opened her eyes, she was in the hospital room. Max was standing in front of her and checking her reports. A nurse standing behind him.

When he noticed that she had opened his eyes, he returned the reports to the maids and whispered something. The nurse left the room.

“Why am I here?” Nora looked around. Alex was not there. Did she fail her first task? But as the car started to gain speed, her past had overlapped her present. She had seen Benrad in the car holding her young daughter with the door opened when he was threatening her to throw their daughter out while she was shrieking hard.

Max noticed fear dancing on her eyes. It was rare to see her broken. He walked closer to her and covered her hands with his. Nora flinched and moved her hands away with the speed of listening. Her face looked paler than a ghost.

“Nora..”

“I..” she closed her eyes and covered her face with her hands. But she could not hide the quivering of her back. For some reason, Max felt burning in his chest.

“Nora, you do need to be afraid. Your family could never hurt you again.”
