Chapter 446: A Strong Woman
“I never knew Alric would be so jealous. He must love you so much.” His words were tinged with amusement, but his eyes gleamed, seeking a reaction.
Nora knew exactly what he was doing. She shook her head, feigning disapproval, yet her lips curled into a smile she couldn’t contain. The warmth of the moment stirred memories within her — the laughter, the teasing, the thrill of playful rivalry. His possession!
“Yes,” she said softly, her eyes shimmering. “Alric loves me a lot. I am very lucky.”
Max chuckled, the sound deep and knowing. But then his expression shifted. His gaze lingered on her, a sudden intensity darkening his eyes.
“No, Nora,” he said, his voice lower now, steady. “He’s the lucky one. I’m sure there were plenty who would’ve waited their whole lives for a chance with you.”
The sincerity in his tone sent a ripple of unease through her. She opened her mouth to respond, but the moment slipped away. Max flashed a grin, masking whatever had just passed between them.
“Wait here. I’ll bring the car.” He turned without waiting for her reply, disappearing into the dimness of the parking lot.
Nora exhaled, leaning against the cool metal of a nearby car. Her thoughts spun. Was Alric truly jealous? The memory of his hardened gaze returned to her, and despite herself, she smiled, her cheeks tinged with a soft blush. Maybe it wasn’t so bad to be wanted like that.
But where was Alric? He had been following them, hadn’t he?
A frown settled on her face and she walked back to look for him when she heard the strong sound of the engine. But the cars did not drive fast in the parking lot.
Nora’s eyes darted toward the sound. A sleek black car tore through the parking lot, headlights glaring like twin daggers. Panic slammed into her chest. It was coming straight for her.
Her instincts screamed. She twisted, flinging herself to the side just as the vehicle sped past. The force of her leap sent her crashing to the ground, her body skidding against a shard of glasses. A piercing sting erupted in her arm as a sharp shard sliced through her skin leaving a deep cut.
“Aah!” Her cry echoed, raw and desperate.
Blood welled from a deep gash on her left hand, staining her pale skin. Many others had torn at her clothes, exposing another deep cut on her waist. Every breath she took was laced with pain.
The car vanished into the shadows, leaving only the distant hum of its retreat. Nora’s trembling fingers clutched at her wound, her eyes staring at the car as if it was still there.
Alric and Max came running from different sides.
“Nora!” The man looked worried. “Are you okay?” Max bent to look at her wounds. Alric ran behind the car but it was already gone. He took the lift to the ground floor since the parking lot is three floors wide. He ran all the way toward the door only to see that black car driving away. But he noted its number. He glared at the car with narrowed eyes.
And then he ran back to the parking lot. Nora was not sitting in the car and Max was leaning on her and wiping her blood.
“This one needs a stiching.” he pointed at the left arm, “it will leave a scar.” he turned to look at Alric with worry.
Alric’s gaze was hardened; he was holding the door so tight as if he wanted to smash it.
“Do it! Marks don’t matter as long as she is fine.” Nora closed her eyes with pain. The blood was not stopping even when he had used his handkerchief as a bandage.
“We need to go to my house fast.” if Alric was jealous he did not show it at this point. He nodded and sat on the passenger seat and drove the car like a madman.
“Alric! She is not in danger. I only told my house because it is closer from here.” he explained when Alric broke another signal. The car was going so fast that Max worried they all would die tonight.
Alric did not hear him. All he could see was Nora lying on the ground covered in blood and glass shards! It was not an accident! It was meticulously planned as if they knew her moment in advance. The thought coursed through his body like a jolt of electricity and burnt him further. When the car stopped in front of Max’s house, his face was ashen.
Nora looked pale and weak and she leaned on Alric when he opened the door for her. He picked her up in his arms and Max ran to open the door.
He switched on all the lights when Alric brought Nora inside. There was a large hall with two large sofas and one recliner.
Alric placed Nora on the large sofa. Max ran inside the room. Alric leaned and looked into her misty eyes.
“I will not let them go.” Nora sucked in a breath and nodded.
“I have never doubted you.” she knew he would fight for her no matter what! Max returned with a box in his hands. Alric took a step back and max kneeled on the ground. He took out an injection and pointed it at her arm.
“This would hurt nora. So I am numbing your hand first. Do not drive or lift something heavy tonight.” he joked with a smile. Nora smiled back as she watched the liquid seeping into her skin and slowly the pain disappeared so as all the sensations on her hands. She watched as he took out a small needle and readied it.

“Look at the other side,” he insisted. Though he had numbed her hand, if she kept looking, her mind would still feel the pain of her hand being pierced. But Nora refused to look away.
“Alric!” He did not have time to waste. He looked at Alric for help. But Alric just shrugged.
“Let her be! She is a strong woman.”
