“You seem sick.” Nora closed the book she was reading when she saw Max returning to his office. “Why don’t you take a break. I am sure there are many other doctors. Alric just enjoys exhausting you.” Max walked to his office desk and sat there.

He took a deep breath collecting his thoughts. Nora looked worried.

“You should rest, I will come later.” She stood up and collected her books when he turned to look at her.

“You are here for your friend?” Nora looked guilty suddenly. The simple question left her dumbfounded.

“You are my friend too, max.” though she had forgotten to save him completely. But she had decided. Once Chris would be sent to jail, she would find a girl for him no matter what.

Max smiled, looking amused.

“That was not a complaint, nora. You do not need to be guilty.” he waved his hand toward the chair and with a sigh, she sat again.

“I will not lie to you, Nora. she is in a bad condition.” Nora nodded. She has expected this. “Now only she was beaten and burnt with cigarettes, we have found multiple men semen in her body. It is a miracle that she and her child are still alive.”

“…” Nora froze on her seat. The hand holding the books turned white and her eyes widened. Her breathing was labored suddenly. No matter how much she had suffered, Chris never invited another man to share her. She could not even fathom what Nat had suffered.

“And then they have locked her in the closet naked for days without giving food.” he watched as Nora looked horrified and color drained from her face.

He even knew that Alric would hold a grudge and would come for him later. But he could not let Nora live in a fantasy that nothing was wrong. He wanted her to face the truth. He had thought only Alric was ruthless but Nora was no less. If she had the courage to make such schemes she should bear their burden too. He did not have flowery words for her.

“She keeps staring at the fan or at other moving things for hours. She did not even blink. It is not normal. She needs help, Nora. I will suggest a psychiatrist to be honest. But I am not sure how she was going to take it.

We can not give her medicines since she is four months pregnant. We are hardly able to help her with her injuries and wounds already.” Nora’s eyes dimmed and guilt filled them.

As if someone had held her heart and was squeezing it hard.

“Is there… Can I help in any way?” he looked at her remorse filled eyes and sighed.

“For start, she needs a distraction and then she needs a warm place to live.” he ex0lained and Noa nodded readily.

“She will live with me. I was here only to ask for discharge.” Max frowned.

“You live there with Alric,” he reminded her. When her eyes widened, he nodded. “She would be disturbed more if she saw a loving couple walking around. It would be better if the place is warm yet does not have many people. Plus, Alric would not prefer it if there would be disturbance.” Nora flushed the way he looked at her neck. Her hands itched to cover that spot. She was sure she had applied enough foundation to hide the bite marks.

“Then… should I talk to Emma?” Nora bit her lips. She did not know many people. “I have a friend named Lucy too.”

“Emma? Your bodyguard! Did she even return home? She could not take care of herself. How would she take care of someone else? Is Lucy a good choice?” Nora paused, she told Max about Lucy and he nodded.

“That did seem a good choice. If the girl is warm and caring, perhaps, Natalie would be distracted and it would be all better if Lucy could motivate her to study too. But would she let Natalie stay with her? Nora, natalie still need protection.

She sighed deflated. Suddenly she felt like she was still helpless.

“What do you suggest then?” Max paiused and ran a hand in his hair.

“I have recently bought a house. My nephew had visited and my girlfriend suggested it is time I come out of this hospital.” Nora watched him flabbergasted.

Under her wide and shocked gaze, Max frowned. His ears felt hot.

“What… it will be a safe place! And a kid might help her feel better.” he defended only for Nora to blink. Then she smiled softly.

“You have always been like that. Kind and caring with unconditional love.” she sighed. How she had missed it. It seems like Nat had not only taken her place in the bad experience. The only light in her life used to be the time she had spent with max. Until he had proposed to her and Chris had found out that she was spying on him.

She shook that thought away yet the throat burnt.

“You are exaggerating. I need a housekeeper anyway.” he looked away. Sometimes, he feels burdened by her gaze. As if she was looking at someone else while looking at him.

He had believed that it might be love. But she did not love him and realized that he did not love her too. She was more like a sister to him.

Nora shook her head.

“I will ask Alric to increase the security around your house. If you need any help give me a call, Max. Her happiness is my priority now.”
