Return Of The Heiress For Revenge - Chapter 469
Chapter 469: Struggles!
Natalie could not breath for a few seconds and then she gasped for air while holding the counter tightly. The bottle had long fallen on the ground. She closed her panicked eyes.
“He is not one of them. He is not.” she chanted to herself. But her trembling body did not listen to him.
Max was too close to her that was enveloped in his minty breath. It made her panic. She remembered the time when she was tied and many men took. Their smell, their warmth, their touch. It never left her body. She could feel their hands touching her. Her skin crawled and the pain rose in her belly. She took hurried breaths but it did not relax her. She felt pain.
Max watched her from his kitchen. His hands clenched into a fist. He had brought her here to make sure he could help her with her nightmares. But now, he was the one to bring them. How could he be so foolish!
How he wanted to go and help her, but he could not. She had to face them herself. The smell of burning was strong but Nat didn’t move and Max kept staring at her from his room until she stood up.
She wiped her eyes and splashed cold water on her face. Only then did Max blinked and came out of the room with a frown on his face.
“Something is burning. No?” Nat looked back at him with vigilant eyes. It took her a few seconds to understand what he was saying and then Nat’s eyes widened. As if the smell had never reached her. She ran to check the pasta that had long turned into a coal. Her hands burnt while holding the spoon.
“Aah!” the spoon fell from her hands and tears formed in her eyes. Max instinctively took a step closer with widened eyes but he paused before walking too close.
“You can not hold the burning spoon.” he sounded helpless. He had held her hand in the kitchen but he did not know if he could do it here, where they were alone. Would Emma be a better choice?
“Natalie..” he called for her and she slowly raised her head and looked at him with teary eyes. “I will never hurt you.” Nat froze at those words.
He took a step closer and paused waiting for her refusal. But as she stood there like a stature, he took a deep breath, collecting his courage and took several steps toward the kitchen.
He knew that she was struggling. He could see it in her eyes. He closed the flame first.
She watched him warily as he wore mittens before picking up the pan and placing it in the sink. The pouring water filled the room with smoke and she coughed.
Max watched her from the sink. “Your hand needs treatment. I have an ointment.” Nat nodded softly, feeling guilty.
She was relieved that Max did not blame her for the burnt food. She had taken the job promising herself that she would make a new start for herself and her child.
She also knew that Max was a kind man. Nora trusted him the most. Then why.. Why was she afraid of him? What right did she had to live here when she was treating the owner of the house like a plague.
But… she could not control it. As if his presence triggered all those dark memories. She bit her lips, refusing to cry when the door opened and Max returned with a medicine tube in his hands.
She could see he was worried and uncomfortable too.
“Here, you can apply it and rest for a while. You will feel better.” His voice was warm and tender. He looked worried for her. After Chris ruined her family, no one ever worried for her.
“Natalie, your hand would have blisters if you did not apply it.” his voice went grim and she blinked.
“I..” her throat felt dry. Her body tightened instinctively. “My both hands sting. Would you apply for it?” her voice was soft yet he heard her clearly.
His eyes widened and lips parted. He shut his mouth again but stared at her as if she had grown another head. She felt scared instantly.
“I mean..”
“Alright.” he finally nodded, looking away. Come..” there was nothing to sit in the whole house except their beds. He stopped in front of her room, afraid of entering in. He looked at her like an innocent child who knew he would be accused later.
Nat gulped that thought away and took the lead to enter. She heard a sigh behind her and tightened her hands. It hurts!
He followed and frowned instantly.
“Do not clench your hands into a fist, Natalie!” he scolded her and instinctively opened her fist.
She froze with the touch. She told herself that he had touched her before. He was a doctor. Yet she felt sweat all over her body. Her fear was gnawing at her chest. She wanted to pull her hands and run away and she did.
He looked at her surprised and took a step back but she gulped and sat down. When he looked around. Not sure what to do. She extended her hands toward him again.

He watched her hands as if he was watching a complex puzzle and did not know how to solve it. She realized he was more panicked than her. And surprisingly, the thoughts soothed her. It also brought another smile to her face.
“Ummm, doctor! The ointment.” Max blinked and then nodded.
Scratching his neck, he sat on the bed too making sure that he was farthest away. One inch more and he could not touch her fingers.
It was hard to believe that He would apolied the medicine from there. Yet! When he touched her fingers, a strange shivering enveloped her and her body started trembling with fear. She wanted to pull her hand away and hide in the closet.
“What will we eat now?”
“…huh?”
