Chapter 470: Ceased Existence

Nat looked at him confused and it took her a second to remember she had burnt the food.

“Ah! Oh, yes! What would we eat?” food was the last thing in her mind when she felt fear instilling in her heart.

“Shall i order something? Pasta or you would like to eat something else?” Now that he was talking to her, Nat did not panic anymore. She did not hyperventilate or broke into cold sweats.

Max hid the smile and asked in a calm voice as her eyes started to clear again and she did not feel goosebumps on her skin anymore.

“Well, I can only make sandwiches if you like to try. I made a good one last night. I can still use the leftover mushrooms and carrots and..” nat laughed amused.

“I would prefer delivery instead. Let’s order some sandwiches and pasta.”

“Hey! If you want a sandwich, I can make it. Why order it?” Nat laughed, shaking her head again.

“Since I have burnt the food, I will treat you.” she picked up her phone from the corner just when he let her hands go. But he took the phone from her.

She frowned when he fumbled with her phone looking hesitant. She blinked and then looked at her fingers and smiled.

“Do not worry, I will be careful with the ointment.” Max shook his head.

“I will order the food..” he announced, placing her phone in his pocket. Nat frowned.

“You are hiding something.” she concluded. “If you are worried if i have the money, i have enough savings. I never got the chance to use them.” she noticed him shifting looking uneasy and her frown grew deeper.

“Doctor Sullivan.” the young man sighed and ran a hand in his hair.

“Your accounts are locked, Nat. your identity card is cancelled too. You do not exist anymore.”

“…..” Max cursed himself. He was supposed to hide the face until she gave birth. And here he was telling her harsh realities the day she had shifted.

“What is happening here? Why do I not exist anymore.” but rather than her panicked eyes when he was applying medicine, she looked much calmer now.

He sat again beside her, ready to hold her if she would have an attack.

“Nat! You are in danger and we are only trying to protect you.” she nodded instantly as if she had never doubted him. Her trusting eyes gave him some confidence and he sighed.

“Chris benard and his mother had disappeared. The police are looking for them but no one knows where they are! It would take a long time or perhaps they would never be caught. Alric is making pressure but it is not enough and he is not getting help from Spencer connections.

Alric and Nora were afraid that Chris would come looking for you. So ALric had used his connection and cancelled your identity card. You are announced dead, Natalie, you did not exist. Your phone id, your bank card and everything that belonged to you ceased existing with it. For the time being, you can not use a number on your name or can not have a bank account.

He wished Nora would tell natalie.

Natalie looked stunned. She blinked a few times as she processed the information.

“But I swear you will not face any trouble. Our hospital would treat you like a VIP patient. You can eat anything here, and enjoy life. And you can use my bank account for shopping and there is a landline here if you want to talk to Nora. But please do not call your old friends or relatives. It is dangerous.” he pleaded in a low voice.

Nat gave a self deprecating smile.

“Why do you look so guilty doc when you are trying to protect me?” he… he did not know.

He rubbed the back of his neck looking around.

“Because you are a victim yet you are the one hiding and suffering. While that cruel bastard.. Natalie, please try to understand Nora and Alric. They only want to protect you.” Nat nodded. She knew it was all for her protection.

“I knew this was going to happen the moment I entered his house. I have no qualms.” he felt strange. He should be the one assuring her, but she was doing it?

“Eh! How could you be so clumsy!” Nat looked at his anguished face and how he hopped in the room with one leg while holding the other in his hand, and laughed.

“How cruel!” he complained and she shook her head. She came to help him.

“How could a grown man be this clumsy? Are you sure that you are a doctor?” she laughed again. Max groaned with pain. But his body relaxed when she held his arms and brought him back to her bed.

Yes! She did not think much when she touched him. But if he touched her… he pushed that thought aside.

They sat there in silence as he rubbed his knee and she watched him amused.

“Doctor! How long am I to live here?” Max had not expected this question so soon. “And I hope they are paying you well for this job.” Max paused! He looked at her concerned.

“Nat! You are working here, not a prisoner here. You can leave whenever you find a better place to stay! And no, no one is paying me to hire you for work. So you better do the work well and do not burn my kitchen.”
