Chapter 472: I Love You!

A strange uneasiness filled Max as if he was doing something wrong. He shook that thought away. The girl was his girlfriend. The only girl who accepted his tight schedule, smiled at him and even slept with him. Though his memories were hazy, he remembered doing it with her.

He looked at the watch. “I have come for a meeting. But I would be in my office in half an hour. Would that do?”

“Yes, thank you, max.” The girl looked relieved by his simple words and the guilt in his chest rose. He quickly cut the girl and went to find Nat. She was standing near the balcony. And his hands itched to pull her back into the room. Or stood behind her and scan any possible threat.

He made sure he would not do that. She did not need a guardian and he was beaten enough for today.

“Natalie.” she turned to look at him smiling. The rays of sun falling on her back, her eyes shone and his heart skipped a beat. He must have lost it.

“I need to go to the hospital.” she nodded relieved. “I.. I will be late. So you can cook whatever you like and leave my dinner in the fridge. You can call delivery if you need anything but do not open the door without checking their identity or you can call me. I will bring things when I return. Please be safe and do not leave the house without informing me.” Nat heard his instruction with occasional nods and patient smiles. When he sighed, she laughed.

“I will not die so easily. I have fought battles.” Why did her words not make him feel easy? He shook his head and closed the door behind him.

The drive to the hospital only took ten minutes. He had taken the house only because it was close to the hospital.

As soon as he entered, the nurse came to him with a lot of files.

“I have sorted them on the basis of an emergency. But you must see a girl before anything.” he nodded and followed the nurse. After an hour, when he finally returned to his office, a long line of patients were waiting for him.

And inside was Lisa. his girlfriend. He had met her a long ago accidentally and since then she had proposed to him many times. Earlier, he took it as a joke and laughed. But her sincerity touched him finally and he accepted.

Though there is time, he feels uneasiness in her presence but she was everything a man could ever desire. Calm, understanding, patient and even caring. He noticed the lunch box the moment he entered.

Lisa stood up and smiled at him.

“I knew you did not get time to have lunch. So I brought your favorites.” She even knew what he liked and disliked. Girls like her hardly exist. He was being foolish.

“Thank you.” he wrapped his arms reluctantly around her waist when she leaned on his chest. Lisa paused, freezing.

Her eyes turned sharp instantly.

“Max, where were you earlier?” Max took off his lab coat as he sat on the chair.

“I was with a patient. The girl had broken her ribs after falling from the stairs. Why?” she shook her head looking relieved.

“You should be careful. She must have used strong lavender perfume.” lavender! Max froze. Nat had used lavender perfume earlier. It was her smell. Not the patients! He gulped, looking uneasy suddenly. Nothing happened! Why was he nervous!?

“You said there was something urgent? What happened.” Lisa sighed. She fell on the chair and looked reluctant to speak.

It was rare for her to feel reluctant.

“Lisa! You can tell me anything.” he assured and she raised her head as if searching for something in his eyes.

“Max! I know we are not married yet. But one day we would. Right?” Max froze. Marriage! That was the next step after dating. He knew that. But the words did not leave his mouth. It started to burn his throat.

“And we have already done it. So it is only a matter of time that you take my responsibility.” she continued, and he was glad that she did not wait for his reply or she had to wait for an eternity.

“So, I was thinking…” she dragged, “could you lend me some money. I will return it to you later.”

“… that was it?” she bit her lips and nodded, still looking uneasy.

“Max! I do not want you to think I am a greedy woman. I have my pride. But I recently lost my job and I need to pay my brother’s fees or he could not continue his studies. I am still looking for a job. I will return you the money then. Can you trust me?” Max felt a strange weight lifting off his shoulders. He nodded and took out his card.

“This is my bank card. The password is my date of birth. You can use it until you get the next job.” The girl held the card as if she was holding something precious.

“Max!” she gasped, “you are giving me all of it?”

“I have one more account. This is my savings account. So you can use it.” Lisa nodded with her eyes filled with tears.”Thank you, Max.” She hugged him again. “I knew you would help me.” Max paused at her place. He had to learn! He had to be intimate with her.

Reluctantly, he wrapped his arms around her waist.

“You know..” he was lost in his thoughts.

“Doctor, would it take more time?” Lisa pulled herself away embarrassed. The nurse smiled knowing and Max was relieved that he had so much work!

“Lisa, I know I have always been busy and ignoring your needs. But..”

“Oh no, not at all.” the girl shook her head. “Go ahead, I understand that a doctor’s life does not belong only to him or his family. I will come in a few days. Take care, Max and finish the meal too. I love you.”
